A product, apparatus and process for lamination of a sheet of polymer film onto a sheet of light weight web material. An incoming sheet of material is slit into narrow webs, which may be folded by a folding guide, and separated by use of turning bars and guides. The narrow webs then enter an embossing or laminating station. The lamination process joins the two sheets which are of different widths to allow the process to produce stock for different final products. The laminate of folded webs and polymer may be slit and/or unfolded prior to being stored on a take-up reel.

Preferred polymers are those of b -pinenes melting between 80 DEG and 125 DEG C. A compressive force is applied upon the outer surface of the composite cover material to urge the composite cover material, the layer of adhesive and strip or strips of thermoplastic material together against the mandrel, thereby laminating the inner surface of the composite cover material and the strip or strips together and forming a continuous product that can be cut and finished to make paint rollers.

A method for manufacturing tape tab stock that may be used to produce tape tabs for use with disposable absorbent articles, as well as a method for manufacturing tape tab stock that can be produced on-line and concurrently with the disposable absorbent article to which the tape tabs are joined. The first step in the process is to provide a backing substrate upon which the adhesives of the tape tab can be applied. Once the backing is provided, a pressure sensitive adhesive is applied to regions of one side of the backing substrate. The backing substrate is then slit in a direction parallel to the machine direction and the release surface of a release substrate is placed in contact with the pressure sensitive adhesive, forming a laminate comprising the backing substrate and the release substrate. The release substrate preferably covers the entire surface of the backing substrate upon which pressure sensitive adhesive has been applied. The surface of the laminate, including the surface of the release substrate that is not in contact with the pressure sensitive adhesive, and any of the backing substrate not covered by the release substrate is then coated with a second adhesive for joining the tape tabs to the absorbent article. After the second adhesive is applied to the surface of the laminate, the laminate is slit in a direction parallel to the machine direction and either rewound for shipping or storage, or fed to a taper unit that is integrated into the absorbent article manufacturing line. The taper unit cuts individual tape tabs and applies them to the absorbent article chassis.

Kits for dispensing the adhesive sheet assembly, processes for making the adhesive sheet assembly and processes for printing the same are also described.

A cross-oriented multi-layer laminated plastic film is produced by first providing a flattened tubular plastic film having a outer plastic film layer with a first melting temperature and an inner plastic film layer with a second melting temperature lower than the first melting temperature, the outer plastic film layer having a molecular orientation substantially in the direction of the length of the tubular plastic film. The flattened tubular plastic film is passed from an expanding station in an expanded condition along a predetermined path in the direction of the length of said film to a collapsing station in a continuous manner. The expanded tubular plastic film is rotated about the predetermined path as the film passes from the expanding station to the collapsing station to effect cross-orientation of the outer film layer in directions inclined to the direction of travel of the tubular plastic film. The tubular plastic film is flattened at the collapsing station and pressure is applied to the flattened film at a temperature high enough to soften the inner plastic film but low enough not to soften the outer plastic film layer to an extent to cause the outer plastic film layer to lose its molecular orientation. The said pressure causes the opposite sides of the tubular plastic film to engage one another and to cause adjacent inner film layers to become bonded together and to the outer film layers to form a cross-oriented multi-layer laminated plastic film.

A method for manufacturing tape tab stock that may be used to produce tape tabs (40) for use with disposable absorbent articles, as well as a method for manufacturing tape tab stock that can be produced on-line and concurrently with the disposable absorbent article to which the tape tabs (40) are joined. The first step in the process is to provide a backing substrate (52) upon which the adhesives of the tape tab can be applied. Once the backing is provided, a pressure sensitive adhesive (54) is applied to regions of one side of the backing substrate. The backing substrate (52) is then slit in a direction parallel to the machine direction and the release surface of a release substrate is placed in contact with the pressure sensitive adhesive (54), forming a laminate comprising the backing substrate (52) and the release substrate. The release substrate preferably covers the entire surface of the backing substrate (52) upon which pressure sensitive adhesive (54) has been applied. The surface of the laminate, including the surface of the release substrate that is not in contact with the pressure sensitive adhesive (54), and any of the backing substrate (52) not covered by the release substrate is then coated with a second adhesive for joining the tape tabs to the absorbent article. After the second adhesive is applied to the surface of the laminate, the laminate is slit in a direction parallel to the machine direction and either rewound for shipping or storage, or fed to a taper unit that is integrated into the absorbent article manufacturing line. The second serpentine division line has a second plurality of laterally inboard hill regions and relatively outboard valley regions which alternate in occurrence along the longitudinal dimension of the composite web. Filamentous textile structures are produced from a quasi continuous planar nonwoven ( 1 ) by subjecting the nonwoven ( 1 ) to fluid-dynamic forces, namely in such a way that the nonwoven ( 1 ) is split up longitudinally into a plurality of parallel slivers ( 3 ) and the fiber structure of the nonwoven ( 1 ) is bonded in the slivers. For the treatment with fluid-dynamic forces, the nonwoven ( 1 ) is placed for example against a treatment template ( 10 ) which is structured in a strip-like manner by perforations ( 11 ) and elevations ( 12 ) and fine water, saturated steam or air jets ( 13 ) are directed against the nonwoven ( 1 ) and the template ( 10 ). The slivers produced during the treatment with the fluid-dynamic forces can be processed without any further treatment into a planar textile structures or they can be subjected to a further treatment prior to said processing in order to increase their strength. Said further treatment can preferably be performed without any application of additives (false twist, rubbing) or it is a further treatment which can be reversed after the production of the planar structure (treatment with glue). The slivers ( 3 ) have a relatively large volume and can therefore be weaved into covering fabrics with relatively low thread densities. They are suitable for example as weft yarns in fabrics for low-quality needs such as fabrics for disposable linens.
