The invention concerns a method of machining a workpiece, wherein an end-facing tooth edge of a gear profile of the workpiece that was generated by a chip-removing machining process is reworked at a first location into a chamfered edge by way of a plastic forming operation. The material which in the plastic forming operation was displaced towards the end surface of the gear profile is pushed outward as a material protrusion in the end surface of the tooth, while the material displaced towards the flank of the tooth is pushed outward as a material protrusion on the flank side of the chamfer, and the resulting material protrusions in the end surface and on the flank side are removed. The workpiece, while still carrying the material protrusion on the end surface of the gear profile, is transferred to a second location where the protrusion on the flank side of the chamfer is removed.

The workpiece, while still carrying the material protrusion on the end surface of the gear profile, is transferred to a second location where the protrusion on the flank side of the chamfer is removed.

Die mindestens zwei Werkstückspindeln (18, 19) sind relativ zu dem Maschinenbett (3) um eine Werkstückspindel-Schwenkachse (10) verschwenkbar und weisen jeweils eine um eine Drehachse (24, 25) drehantreibbare Werkstückaufnahme (20, 21) auf. Der Werkzeugkopf (17) ist relativ zu den mindestens zwei Werkstückspindeln (18, 19) in drei Richtungen linear verfahrbar und um eine Werkzeugkopf-Schwenkachse (37) verschwenkbar. An dem Schwenkelement (7) ist ein sich in Richtung der Werkstückspindel-Schwenkachse (10) erstreckendes Lagerelement (8) fest angeordnet, dessen freies Ende (11) um die Werkstückspindel-Schwenkachse (10) verschwenkbar an einem Versteifungselement (13) gelagert ist. Das Versteifungselement (13) ist an dem Maschinenbett (3) befestigt. Durch das Versteifungselement (13) wird das Schwenkelement (7) um die Werkstückspindel-Schwenkachse (10) versteift, wodurch eine hohe Bearbeitungsgenauigkeit erzielbar ist.

Eine Werkzeugmaschine (1) weist zur Herstellung von Verzahnungen an Werkstücken (2) ein Maschinenbett (3), ein Schwenkelement (7) mit mindestens zwei daran angeordneten Werkstückspindeln (18, 19) und eine Werkzeug-Positioniereinheit (16) mit einem daran angeordneten Werkzeugkopf (17) auf.
