The design file is used to create milling specifications defining instructions for milling the designed dental restoration. The materials for the dental restoration are loaded into a mill, where the dental restoration is fabricated in accordance with the milling specifications. Security verification ensures authorized materials are used, and authentication verification ensures authorized materials and processes are used.

The engine disclosed herein comprises a number of pairs of pistons, the two pistons in each pair acting in unison and the number of pairs being arranged parallel to each other and said pistons also being positioned parallel to and in a circle around the mainshaft which has a cam lobe located at a convenient part of the mainshaft and encircling the mainshaft. The cam lobe has opposite surfaces which have rises and dips, or in other words, sinusoidal surfaces, and are in contact with pairs of bearings attached to connecting rods, these bearings being on opposite sides of the cam lobe and at one time being driven in one direction by one of the two pistons in each pair and then at another time in the opposite direction by the other piston in that pair, the two pistons of that pair being connected to each other by the same connecting rod carrying the bearings which press against the cam lobe. The pressure exerted first by one bearing and then by the opposite bearing in concert with similar thrusts from other pairs of bearings and pistons, causes a steady, even rotation of the shaft on its linear axis. The action of the pistons and bearings is arranged and timed so that pressure against the surface of the cam lobe exerts vector forces against the curved surface of the cam lobe to effect rotation of the main shaft. Centerline thrust of the bearings against the cam surface and special design of the cam surface to avoid friction or binding between the bearings and the cam are special features of this engine. The pistons may be driven by combustion fuels, including gasoline, diesel, etc., and may also be adapted to steam operation. By appropriate changes, this engine may be operated as a compressor. The cam described herein is novel per se as well as the process and apparatus described for producing this cam.

A method is disclosed for producing signs having raised, prismatic graphic images such as letters, numbers and other graphic images. Initial values for the graphic images are provided, and includes information defining an initial graphic representation for the graphic images, and may also include a return, which is the measure of distance by which the graphic images are raised relative to a background of a sign. A cutting tool (50) is provided and has a radius (76) and a cutting angle (78). One or more tool paths (66,68,70) are determined using the initial graphic representation. Tool passes and depths for the other passes are determined using the initial graphic representation, the cutting angle, and a distance which is not greater than the tool radius. A controller (12) generates signals indicative of the tool paths and respective depths, and presents the signals to operate an automatic cutting machine (14) and cutting tool to selectively remove material from a sheet material to produce the graphic images.

An engraving method is switched from line engraving to dot engraving (or vice versa) at a boundary line at every horizontal scanning by generating and controlling switching signals by means of an engraving discrimination plate. An engraving is performed while a sweeping operation is being performed in a direction (X direction) substantially parallel to a long side of a portion of a card requiring engraving. Since the number of horizontal sweepings are reduced considerably in comparison with the conventional method, the time required for engraving can be shortened. Since the number of vibrations of the engraving table, which are the biggest obstacle for achieving light weight, is reduced in accordance with the reduction in the number of the above-described horizontal sweepings, the engraving table can be produced more light in weight. As a result, a higher speed of the movement of the engraving table can be achieved, thus making it possible to further shorten the time required for engraving.

A key cutting machine for the cutting of keys includes a spindle adapted to be driven rotatably about an axis thereof. The spindle has an axially extending throughbore. A milling cutter is selectively mountable in the throughbore for corotation therewith. A carriage for supporting a clamp assembly is movable relative to the spindle in a plane that is orthogonal relative to the axis. A key blank is clamped in the clamp assembly for cutting by the milling cutter. A securing mechanism is disposed on the spindle for rigidly mounting the milling cutter to the spindle when the milling cutter is positioned adjacent a first spindle end. A stem is selectively receivable in the throughbore by axial insertion into a second spindle end to position the milling cutter adjacent the first spindle end. The stem is removable from the throughbore after the milling cutter is rigidly mounted to the spindle by the securing mechanism.

The method involves setting a tool axis at a setting angle relative to a z axis in the coordinate system of a milling tool (5). Repositioning coincides with the directional position, which is performed by cutting a portion of the bag to reduce the length of the bag of the key substrate.
