Ламинированные и неламинированные участки вытянуты встречно-гребенчатым методом. Прижимная лента снабжена пазами улучшенной конфигурации. Пазы включают в себя изогнутое дно и две расходящиеся вверх боковые стенки. В первом варианте воплощения изобретения стенка дна выполнена полукруглой и имеет диаметр, который равен приблизительно половине ширины раскрытия паза. Расходящиеся вверх боковые стенки предпочтительно содержат закругленные по радиусу верхние края. Боковые стенки предпочтительно имеют угол расхождения между приблизительно 5o и приблизительно 15o от вертикальной плоскости. Во втором варианте воплощения изобретения дно паза выполнено, по существу, плоским, а нижние углы закруглены по радиусу с обеспечением плавного перехода от плоского дна к расходящимся вверх боковым стенкам. A plastic film having a random embossed matte finish is provided. The random embossed matte film may be wound very easily into rolls and the roll contour achieved has superior uniformity. In addition, the film provides relatively equal tape adhesion and gloss properties on both sides which make it especially suitable for use in articles such as disposable diapers or underpads. Another advantageous property which renders it especially suitable for diaper conversion operations is its very low degree of edge curl. The thin film provides a totally different appearance as compared to conventional diaper films in that the overall appearance is a dull matte finish, but nonetheless having slight sparkles of brilliance throughout the surface, and it further provides a softer feel.

The grooves of a grooved pass belt are formed with an improved configuration which reduces groove closure under pressure and which reduces cracking and tearing of the belt. The improved groove configuration consists of a curved bottom (20) and two upwardly diverging side walls (22). In a first embodiment the bottom wall is semi- circular and has a diameter (D) which is equal to about one half of the width (W) of the groove opening. The upwardly diverging side walls (2 2) preferably include radiused upper edges (24). The side walls (22) preferably have an angle of divergence between about five degrees and about fifteen degrees from a vertical plane. In a second embodiment, the bottom of the groove is substantially flat, and the bottom comers are radiused to provide a smooth transition between the flat bottom and the upwardly diverging side walls.

Complex self-assembled patterns can be created using a sparse template and local changes to the shape or distribution of the posts of the template to direct pattern generation of block copolymer. Further, the posts can be arranged such that the template occupies only a few percent of the area of the final self-assembled patterns. Local aperiodic features can be introduced by changing the period or motif of the lattice or by adding guiding posts. According to one embodiment, an array of carefully spaced and shaped posts, prepared by electron-beam patterning of an inorganic resist, can be used to template complex patterns in a cylindrical-morphology block copolymer. These complex self-assembled patterns can form a mask used in fabrication processes of arbitrary structures such as interconnect layouts.

This invention provides a bulky nonwoven fabric made of thermoplastic resin filaments, which is soft and highly permeable to water and gas and effectively absorbs moisture as well as shocks. A nonwoven fabric according to the invention is made of fiber-like filaments of a thermoplastic resin material and comprises a base cloth layer made having densely distributed holes and a large number of cylindrical projections, each standing from the peripheral edge of one of the holes and made of fiber-like filaments similar to those of the base cloth layer and soft, its height being at least twice as large as the thickness of the base cloth layer. The method of manufacturing a nonwoven fabric of the invention is characterized in that molten filaments are blown out of a melt-blow die onto a porous plate provided with a large number of air passage holes under a condition where ambient air pressure on the side of the plate facing the die is kept higher than the air pressure on the other side of the plate so that some of the filaments project outside from the air passage holes to form so many cylindrical projections due to the difference of pressure, the aggregate of filaments being then taken away from the porous plate. The method can comprise a film laminating step.

The sub-layer is face-lapped, roughened through grit blasting, and then oil lapped to remove the asperities. The resulting plateau-reservoir surface has a smooth plateau and a number of reservoirs. A metallic nitride face coating is applied to the sub-layer. The reservoirs provide additional surface area to promote the bonding between the metallic nitride and the sub-layer. The coating does not eliminate the reservoirs, however. Thus, the reservoirs provide the additional function of storing lubricating oil which may be used during piston ring operation to eliminated unwanted wear.
