The sensing arrangement outputs a signal to the control arrangement related to the sensed property of the food product. The present invention discloses a machine for continuously punching holes in a substrate which is to be used in a skin packaging operation. The machine includes a frame which has a punching roll, which is rotatively mounted by the frame and the punching roll includes a cylindrical shell and a cylindrical center roll. The cylindrical shell is provided with a plurality of openings and fitted in these openings are a plurality of punching pins and these pins are backed up on one end by the cylindrical center roll which prevents them from inward movement. The outer surface of the cylindrical shell is swedged tightly around each of the pins where it exits its respective opening and this prevents outward movement of the pins during normal operation of the machine. The outward end of each pin is pointed to perform a punching function. A rubber backup roll is mounted preferably below and parallel to the punching roll. Means are provided for raising and lowering the punching roll relative to the rubber backup roll so that the outward end of the pins may be positioned relative to the rubber backup roll and preferably are at least in contact with the rubber backup roll. Means are provided for rotatively driving the punching roll and the rubber backup roll. Pieces of substrate are fed into the entrance end of the machine and are removed from the exit end of the machine by means of a plurality of belts which are mounted generally horizontal and parallel with each other. The belts are driven by means of first-drive axles which in turn rotatively carry sheaves which in turn carry the belts. The same construction is provided at the exit end to remove the substrate after they have had the holes punched in them by the aforementioned pins. Ejection rollers are mounted at the exit end of the machine and are adapted to engage the upper surface of the increments of substrate to aid in removing the substrate from between the punching roll and the backup roll. A versatile high speed slicing machine moves first and second food loaves along parallel loaf paths into a slicing station where both loaves are sliced by a cyclically driven knife blade. There are independent loaf feed drives so that slices cut from one loaf may be thicker than slices from the other. The conveyor/transfer system onto which food loaves are deposited as cut includes a receiver located below the slicing station; a lift mechanism moves the receiver down during slicing so that slices always fall about the same distance after being cut. The receiver includes a horizontal conveyor that periodically discharges groups of food loaf slices onto a deceleration conveyor, from which the groups are fed onto a multi-belt scale conveyor. The scale conveyor is aligned with two receiver grids, each grid including plural grid elements interleaved one-for-one with the scale conveyor belts. In each machine cycle a group of food loaf slices is deposited on a grid and weighed. Two slice groups are usually weighed individually and simultaneously. The group weights control two classifier transfer conveyors.

An inserter input system including a web feeder providing a web of printed material to be split by a web slitting knife along the web's direction of travel. The split web is then cut transverse to the direction of travel by a rotary cutter operating at a first velocity, resulting in side-by-side individual sheets. Downstream of the rotary cutter, a right angle turn mechanism receives each of the side-by-side sheets and reorients them by ninety degrees. Further the right angle turn reorients the sheets into a serial shingled arrangement. A high speed separation nip pulls individual shingled sheets out from the shingled arrangement. The speed of the separation nip is such that a predetermined gap between the previously shingled sheets is formed. In a further preferred embodiment of the present invention, the speed of the rotary cutter and right angle turn mechanism are controlled to adjust a quantity of sheets that would be generated from displacement traveled due to inertia during a deceleration of the system to a stop.

The object of the present invention is to provide a device with which a straightening, cutting and then a trimming of the cut edges are effected on a simple way, without the piece of cloth thereby having any possibility of becoming deformed. Another object of the invention is to provide a compact device which does not demand larger place than the known straightening devices. Furthermore according to the invention it shall also be possible to treat web which are equipped with longitudinal side seams with the device. These tasks have been solved by the fact that the straightening device consists of two rulers extending laterally across the web and being adjustable relative to each other, thus that the web or only pile-free portions thereof can pass freely between them, that in front of the straightening device as seen in the web direction is arranged a transfer device adapted to pass through a first conveyor device and equipped with seizing means for conveying the forward edge of the web for advancing and metering a piece of cloth and for transfer of its forward edge to a second conveyor device, and that the first and second conveyor devices are provided with means for arresting the cut edges of each piece of cloth and for transport of the piece of cloth in arrested position to a device for trimming the cut edges.

Combined Jump Conveyor and Slicing Machine ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A combined jump conveyor and slicing machine includes a jump conveyor formed by a first short conveyor (1) adjacent the slicing blade (3) of the slicing machine having a length substantially equal to the height capacity of the slicing machine and a second conveyor (2) downstream of the first conveyor (1). Both conveyors (1 and 2) of the jump conveyor have an independent drive (7,8) and control means (9) to drive the two conveyors at the same speed or at different speeds. The independent drive (7) and control means (9) of the first conveyor (1) also enable it to be driven at high speed in the reverse direction away from the second conveyor (2) to reject slices cut by the slicing blade (3). The slicing machine and jump conveyor combination preferably includes a sensor (10) which detects the height of a log (5) to be cut immediately upstream of the slicing blade (3) of the slicer and means to control the low shingling speed of the jump conveyor (1) in accordance with the output of the sensor (10) to provide groups of shingled slices of constant length in the shingling direction.

1438593 Feeding sheet material D J JARMAN 8 June 1973 [26 July 1972] 27327/73 Heading B3W A conveyer for use with shear equipment has a sheet-supporting surface, means for raising and lowering the surface and means for moving the surface so that sheet can be selectively removed from or fed back to the shear equipment. The conveyer comprises an assembly 21 of chains 17, 18 driven by a reversible motor 97 and supported in a frame 13 mounted on casters 14. A back gange assembly 19 comprises plates 82-84 fixed to a cross member (81) which is movable towards and away from the shear 46 at different speeds, by hydraulically-actuated feed screws (89(a) and 89b), Fig. 3 not shown, co-operating with nuts 106 fixed to the member (81). The hydraulic motor (92) driving the rods also drives means for indicating on a control panel the distance the gauge has moved. At the start of a shearing operation the worksupporting surface of the conveyer is slightly above the work table 47 of the shear and the back gauge assembly is in raised position. Actuation of limit switches (SW1) on the gauge plates by a sheet to be cut causes the blade 51 to be actuated and operates a pilot light. As the blade is lowered the back gauge assembly is lowered by means of hydraulic cylinders 31, 31a-31c and the end of the conveyer nearer the shear is lowered by cylinders 52, (142) operated at different speeds to lower one side move slowly than the other so that the sheet is always supported by the conveyer as it is progressively cut by the angled blade. One side of the stacking end of the conveyer is lowered as the cut progresses by means of a cylinder 146, a universal joint (85) being provided at the other side. The cylinders 52 and (142) act on a cross beam 22 of the chain assembly 21 through linkage 57-59 and a roller 61. After a cut, the conveyer is returned to the raised position, the chain drive operating to return the cut sheet to the shear for further cutting or to feed it to a stacker assembly 66 ...

The two cylinders move in perpendicular directions, and their coordinated movements cause the glass to be cut in a programmed profile. A belt conveyor is incorporated in the machine to carry the glass to the table, and may assume a raised position for transport and a lowered position at rest.
