A rotary cutting device includes a body having a cutter blade with a cutting edge and a pressure roller mounted relative to the cutter blade. The cutter blade is configured to rotate about a rotational axis. The pressure roller is rotationally fixed. The cutter blade and the pressure roller are positioned relative to each other such that pressure is applied to a material fed therebetween. As the cutter blade rotates relative to the pressure roller, the pressure applied to the material being fed therebetween allows for a width of material to cut by a cutting edge of rotating cutter blade. An embossing roller may be used in place of the cutter blade to emboss material. The device also includes guide for guiding material into the machine, pressure adjustment for pressure applied to the material, and rotational speed control. A method for using the rotary cutting device is also disclosed.

The present invention provides a web perforating apparatus which includes a system for detecting and indicating when a blade in the apparatus is broken, dull or otherwise not perforating the web. The apparatus is typically used with rewinders or other similar machines that produce perforated sheets of products, such as paper, using sets of stationary anvil blades and rotating perforating blades. The apparatus comprises at least one anvil including a blade holder and an anvil blade which is positioned within the blade holder. The blade holder is formed of an insulating material for electrically isolating the anvil blade from the machine frame of the rewinder. An electrical conductor is coupled to the anvil blade for supplying an electric current to the anvil blade from a current source. The apparatus also includes at least one grounded perforating blade for moving relative to the anvil blade and cooperating with the anvil blade to perforate the web at predetermined points along its length. The perforating blade will contact the anvil blade after perforating the web. A closed circuit is formed and maintained along the anvil blade at points where the blades are in contact with each other. The apparatus further includes means for detecting if a closed circuit has been formed and maintained along the anvil blade when the perforating blade moves into a position where the blades should contact each other.

A tube cutting apparatus of the type in which jaws carried by relative reciprocal slides move into and out of clamping engagement with tubing, the clamped tubing is thereof notched at its upper periphery with a scarfing blade, and the notched tubing is thereafter severed with a guillotine blade. The scarfing blade and the guillotine blade each are secured to their respective holders by a cam pin which coacts with a cam surface to bring an eccentric portion of the cam pin into wedging coaction with the blade in response to rotation of the pin and firmly and wedgingly secure the blade to its respective holder. The blade may be removed from the respective holder by simply rotating the cam pin a fraction of a revolution and then withdrawing the blade. A new or reground blade is replaced in the respective holder by simple insertion into the holder and rotation of the cam pin a fraction of a revolution in the opposite direction.

A separating member (38) which is moved vertically by another cam (40) operates with delay with respect to the movement of the upper die (29), and when the upper die leaves the belting member, the separating member (38) presses the belting member to ensure separation of the die from the belting.

A rotary cutting die includes a trim stripper having a generally pentagonal shape which forcibly separates severed trim scrap from cut corrugated board, directing the scrap material generally downwardly and away from the trimmed corrugated board product. The pentagonal shaped stripping member mounts on the surface of a die board adjacent a trim cutting blade and is formed of a resilient material, such as closed cell rubber, which deforms elastically when forced into contact with the incoming blank of material. The angled nature of the stripper surface allows the stripper to smoothly contact and capture the leading edge of the blank, greatly reducing the potential for an initial destructive misalignment at the stripper-blank interface. More particularly, the angled upper surface of the pentagonal shaped member is oriented such that as the stripper is brought into contact with the blank and deformation of the resilient stripper occurs, the engaged angled surface tends to hold the blank material against an adjacent anvil cylinder. Simultaneous with this holding action of the stripper, the cutting blade engages and penetrates the blank material, effectively severing or trimming the edge of the blank and producing a segment of scrap. As the elastically deformed stripper begins to recoil, and return to it's original pentagonal shape, the angled surface of the stripper remains in general contact with the severed scrap and continues to hold the scrap material firmly against the anvil surface. By doing such, the stripper effectively forces the severed scrap material to be expelled from the rotary die assembly along a tangent to the anvil cylinder that is angled or directed significantly lower than the path taken by the trimmed corrugated board product.

A roll web guide system for defining a web travel path in a dispenser is provided. The web guide system includes a drive roller that is rotatably mounted within the dispenser. The drive roller defines at least one annular groove. A guide roller is also present. The guide roller is urged toward the drive roller to form a nip with the drive roller. The guide roller defines at least one annular groove therein. A plurality of stripper guides are partially disposed within the annular grooves of the guide roller and drive roller. The stripper guides prevent the web from wrapping around the guide roller and the drive roller.

The invention relates to a device (10) for forming sleeve-like foil envelopes from a continuous flat strip of a sleeve-like foil material, comprising supply means (12) for supplying the continuous flat strip of sleeve-like foil material (1), cutting means (14-15) for making a cut in this strip of sleeve-like foil material (1) over the full width thereof so as to obtain the individual sleeve-like foil envelopes, as well as discharge means (20a,20b) for discharging the individual sleeve-like foil envelopes (1') from the device. According to the invention, the device is characterised in that the cutting means comprise at least two cutting elements (14-15) that are movable relative to the flat strip of sleeve-like foil material, each cutting element comprising at least one cutting blade (15',15') extending parallel to at least part of the width of the strip, in such a manner that the individual cutting blades of the cutting elements form several partial cuts contiguous to each other in the strip of sleeve-like foil material over the entire width thereof in successive cutting operations.
