The V-cutter may include a Z-axis lift piece (7) and a W-axis lift piece (8), each of which has a pin kit (10a, 10b) with a plurality of pins (9a, 9b) attached at the bottom thereof. The pins (9a, 9b) are preferably equal in number and spacing to the V-shaped grooves (3) to be formed. The lift pieces (7, 8) may be vertically actuated by a Z-axis controller (5) and a W-axis controller (6). The light guide panel (1) is preferably fixtured to a table (11). The lift pieces (7, 8) are configured to move with respect to the table (11) so that, through successive X-axis and Y-axis operations, the V-shaped grooves can be formed in perpendicular directions with only two reciprocating motions. As a result, the manufacturing cost of the light guide panels (1) is reduced.

A simple and low-cost adjusting means for adjusting the clearance between the upper and lower blades in a shearing machine. The lower limit of the stroke of the upper blade to the lower blade is adjusted by an adjustable cam member which is rotatably provided on a connecting rod connecting the ram member with a driving means. More particularly, the connecting rod is rotatably connected at one end thereof to an eccentric shaft driven by the driving means and is connected at the other end to the ram by means of the eccentric cam member. Also, according to the present invention, the ram member carrying the upper blade is kept horizontally biased by an elastic means such as a spring away from the lower blade and is so arranged as to be horizontally moved by a lead screw means against or by the elastic means.

The improved apparatus for straight line shearing of multiple gobs from columns of molten glass includes a shear frame to which multiple shear blade assemblies and shear blade adjustment mechanisms are mounted to facilitate changeover between single, double, and multiple gob configurations. At least one shear frame wall includes a plurality of slots aligned along an axis of separation of the shear blade assemblies and shear blade adjustment mechanisms, the adjustment mechanisms each including an indexing rod and adjusting shaft which may be repositioned within one of said slots to adjust the separation of the shear blade adjustment mechanisms. Advantageously, in a shear mechanism designed to accommodate single, double, and triple gob configurations, two such slots are provided for the outermost indexing rods, such rods being located at their points of maximum separation for single or triple gob shearing, and their points of minimum separation for double gob shearing. In order to provide a more remote manual adjustment of the shear blade adjustment mechanisms, each indexing rod may be geared to a transverse rod which is journaled in an extension plate of the shear frame; in such embodiment, the extension plate includes slots corresponding to the slots in the shear frame wall in order to permit repositioning of the transverse shafts commensurate with that of the indexing rods.

A multiple punch and multiple die assembly has a workpiece protector comprising a punch lifter that is operatively associated with each punch for supporting each of the punches in an inactive position as an active punch is moved by the ram to the active, i.e. operating position to thereby eliminate scoring or marking of the sheet material or other workpiece that is being punched. To eliminate the need for hand tools and hand assembly or disassembly, a manually moveable retainer on the punch assembly is provided that can be moved by hand between a punch-releasing and punch-retaining position for holding the punches within the multi-punch assembly during operation. To prevent stress fractures that formerly occurred in die carriers, support of each die is distributed between two different die components thereby reducing impact stress on the carrier as the ram drives the punch through the workpiece.

Bei bekannten Besäumscheren mit auslaufseitigem Schrottmesserpaar muss das bewegte obere Schrottmesser möglichst dicht an der besäumten Blechkante vorbeigeführt werden, was eine genaue Einstellung des oberen Schrottmessers erfordert. Bei einer Erhöhung der Blechdicke muss auch die Messerspaltweite für die Schrottmesser und für die Besäummesser vergrößert werden. Beim Besäumschnitt wird dann die Schnittkante schräger ausgebildet als bei kleiner Messerspaltweite. Dies macht aber eine Vergrößerung des Abstandes des Schrottobermessers zum Grobblech bzw. dessen Besäumkante erforderlich, da sonst das Schrottobermesser die Schnittkante des Grobblechs beschädigt. Umgekehrt darf bei kleinen Blechdicken und geringer Messerspaltweite der Abstand nicht zu groß sein, da sonst der Schrottstreifen nicht n bei der Besäumung wechselnder Blechdicken zu vermeiden, wird gemäß der Erfindung vorgeschlagen, dass in Abhängigkeit von der Blechdicke der Grobbleche (10) durch eine gleichzeitige Verschiebung der Schrottmesserschlittenführung (20, 20') in zwei rechtwinklig zueinander verlaufenden unterschiedlichen Richtungen (22, 23) eine gleichzeitige Verstellung der Schrottmesserspaltweite (6) und des Abstandes (5) zwischen dem Schrottobermesser (2) und der Besäummesserkante (4) durchgeführt wird.
