Disclosed are a method and apparatus for storage and positioning playing of a video file. The method comprises: performing frame analysis on an obtained video file to obtain timestamp information corresponding to each I-frame data in the video file and offset information about each I-frame data in the video file; generating an index file corresponding to the video file, wherein the index file includes the timestamp information corresponding to each I-frame data and the offset information in the video file; and storing the video file in a cloud storage system, and storing the index file in the cloud storage system. It can be seen that, when a video file is stored in a cloud storage system, an index file including timestamp information corresponding to each I-frame data and offset information in the video file is correspondingly generated, so as to realize, by means of the index file, playback positioning of the video file in the form of a time point.
