A ventilation assembly comprises an air supply fan and an air supply conduit connected to the air supply fan for channelling an air supply within a building. An air extract fan and an air extract conduit connected to the air extract fan are provided for extracting vitiated air from within the building. A plurality of supply outlets are located along the air supply conduit for connecting the air supply conduit to a corresponding plurality of habitable rooms of the building. A first plurality of extract inlets corresponding to the plurality of supply outlets are located along the air extract conduit for connecting the extract conduit to the same plurality of habitable rooms. A plurality of independently actuatable closure means are arranged to in a first condition close one of the extract inlets and open the corresponding supply outlet to permit air to be supplied to said corresponding habitable room by the air supply fan and prevent air from being extracted via the extract fan and in a second condition close the supply outlet and open the corresponding extract inlet to permit air to be drawn from said corresponding room by the air extract fan and prevent air from being supplied by the supply fan.

A panel (10) comprising a first wall section (2) and a second wall section (4) configured to be at least partially received within the first wall section (2). The first wall section (2) comprises a first connection member (34) and the second wall section comprises a second connection member (30). The first and second connection members (34)(30) are arranged such that they engage when the second wall section (4) is inserted into the first wall section (2) to hold the first and second wall sections (2)(4) together.

A dual inlet extract fan assembly

An extract fan assembly (10) comprises a fan and fan housing (12). The fan housing (12) comprises a plurality of walls defining an enclosure for containing the fan having an inlet opening (14) at one end. A cover plate (18) is positioned to cover the inlet opening (14) and fixed relative to the housing (12) in a spaced location from the inlet opening (14). A first air inlet is defined by the space between the cover plate and the housing. A first airflow pathway extends between the first air inlet and the fan housing (12) via the inlet opening (14). The fan assembly (10) includes a second auxiliary inlet (28) and a second airflow pathway extending between the second air inlet and the fan housing (12) that allows the spacing between the cover plate (18) and the housing (12) to be reduced while maintaining the same inlet airflow.

An axial flow fan comprises a motor 38 arranged within an outer casing 30 and mounted thereto by at least one support arm 40, the, or each, support arm 40 comprising an elongate vane extending between the motor 38 and an inner wall of the casing 30. A connection between the, or each, vane 40 and the motor 38 may allow the angle of the vane 40 to be varied with respect to the direction of air flow through the fan. The connection may comprise an arcuate slot defining a plurality of angular orientations at which the vane 40 may be mounted. The angle of the profile of the, or each, vane 40 may vary along its length, the vane 40 preferably being twisted. There may be means provided to connect the, or each, vane 40 to the motor at a plurality of distances from an impeller 34 of the fan.

Synchronisation methods for free space optical communications

A synchronisation method for use in Free Space Optical communication systems supporting very high information bit rates (i.e. 1 Gbit/s or more) is described. The transmitter inserts a short unique word bit pattern at regular intervals in the data stream. The receiver oversamples the data stream and performs coarse or binary, quantisation to generate a plurality of parallel data streams. These are passed to a correlator comprising a digital pre-filter that provides input to unique word correlators. A unique word detector identifies the location of maximum correlation which can also be used to select the optimum clock phase to allow decimation of the parallel data streams back into a single data stream with one sample per symbol (for subsequent decoding). The method provides efficient and reliable clock and frame re-synchronisation for high-data rate signals subject to severe fading, enabling the use of cost.
