A method of implanting a prosthetic component is disclosed that includes attaching a guide rod to the prosthetic component, removably coupling the guide rod to a shaft extending from a handle, and positioning the prosthetic component in an anatomical feature. The method also includes impacting an impaction portion of the handle and uncoupling the guide rod from the shaft, leaving the guide rod attached to the prosthetic component. The method further includes positioning a reamer over the guide rod to create a reamed opening in the anatomical feature. 1. A method of implanting a modular prosthetic component , comprising:attaching a guide rod to the prosthetic component;removably coupling the guide rod to a shaft extending from a handle;positioning the prosthetic component in an anatomical feature;impacting an impaction portion of the handle; anduncoupling the guide rod from the shaft to remove the shaft, leaving the guide rod attached to the prosthetic component.2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising attaching the guide rod to the prosthetic component by threading the guide rod into the prosthetic component.3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising rotationally fixing the guide rod to the handle.4. The method of claim 3 , further comprising threading the guide rod into the prosthetic component using the handle.5. A method for inserting an acetabular implant into the acetabulum of a patient , the method comprising:engaging a patient-specific surface of acetabular alignment guide to a complementary rim surface and periacetabular area of a patient;inserting a plurality of alignment pins through corresponding alignment apertures of the acetabular alignment guide and into the periacetabular area of the patient;removing the acetabular alignment guide without removing the alignment pins from the patient;guiding a first alignment adapter coupled to an acetabular inserter over the alignment pins; andimplanting an acetabular implant with the acetabular inserter.2. The method of claim 1 , wherein guiding a first alignment adapter coupled to an acetabular implant inserter over the alignment pins comprises inserting the alignment pins through complementary apertures of the first alignment adapter.3. Companion and accessory devices can be wirelessly leashed together in a manner that enables the devices to estimate their proximities to each other. One device can periodically attempt to detect a signal from the other device. For each attempt, the attempting device can store an indication of whether the signal was detected. If a number of times that the signal was undetected exceeds a threshold, then the attempting device can perform specified operations, such as alerting a user that the wireless leash was broken. As another example, one device can detect that a strength of a signal from the other device exceeds a threshold. In response, the detecting device can measure signal strengths more frequently. If the measuring device then detects that the signal strength exceeds another threshold, then the measuring device can cause specified operations to be performed, such as data synchronization between the devices or unlocking a device.

The coding method may include coding the frames such that additional droppable frames are included in the encoded video data. The decoding method may include dropping droppable frames before the encoded video data is decoded to reduce the number of frames that will be decoded and displayed. These methods may be applied to video data that has a variable frame rate and may be combined with processing the image sequence for slow motion playback.
