Preparation of Stable, Bright Luminescent Nanoparticles Having Compositionally Engineered Properties

A method is provided for preparing luminescent semiconductor nanoparticles composed of a first component X, a second component A, and a third component B, wherein X, A, and B are different, by combining B with X and A in an amount such that the molar ratio B:(A+B) is in the range of approximately 0.001 to 0.20 and the molar ratio X:(A+B) is in the range of approximately 0.5:1.0 to 2:1. The characteristics of these nanoparticles can be substantially similar to those of nanoparticles containing only X and B while maintaining many useful properties characteristic of nanoparticles containing only X and A; and can additionally exhibit emergent properties such as a peak emission energy less than that characteristic of a particle composed of XA or XB alone. This method is particularly applicable to the preparation of stable, bright nanoparticles that emit in the red to infrared regions of the electromagnetic spectrum.

A shrink tube is then slid onto the wire and moved away from the ends to be welded. Then, the ends are welded together and the shrink tube is used to cover the bare wire portions and the weld point. An efficient, low cost method and apparatus for controlling fiber deposition in a fiber reinforced preform is provided. In the method, a main screen is placed in a tank filled with liquid. The main screen has a major surface, upright side walls and a plurality of openings formed therein. Reinforcing fibers are added to the liquid to create a slurry. The main screen is raised through the slurry to a level beneath the top of the slurry, thereby causing the reinforcing fibers to be deposited on the main screen. A retainer screen is inserted into the slurry so that the reinforcing fibers are sandwiched between the main screen and the retainer screen. Both the main screen and retainer screen are raised out of the tank effectively forming a preform with minimal deformation. An alternative embodiment includes a bubbler zone control device for mixing the slurry. The tank is divided into separate areas or zones whereby the supply of fluid to each bubbler zone is controlled. The bubbler zone controller may be used to initiate or diminish a vortex in the slurry as the screen is being raised out of the tank. The alumina-rich matrix of the cracking catalyst acts as a sodium and metals sink. The large pore molecular sieve catalyst cracks large hydrocarbons to lighter paraffins and olefins. The shape selective paraffin cracking/isomerization component cracks/isomerizes the paraffins produced by the large pore molecular sieve. The shape selective aliphatic aromatization catalyst converts light paraffins and olefins into aromatics. A single shape selective zeolite, e.g., ZSM-5 with a controlled amount of an aromatization component such as gallium, may promote both paraffin cracking/isomerization and aromatization. The additive catalylsts have physical properties, e.g., size, shape, density and attrition resistance which are substantially the same as the cracking catalyst.
