La valeur Q représente la charge électrique qui correspond à la transmittance à l'état coloré. Puis la PWM est coupée. De ce fait, le temps de réponse pour la coloration et la transmittance du dispositif électrochrome est maintenu dans un intervalle prédéterminé, sans être affecté par la température ambiante, le temps de réglage et le vieillissement des matériaux utilisés. Ainsi, le dispositif électrochrome est plus pratique à utiliser et a une valeur de praticité plus élevée.

The present invention uses a work control logic unit to detect load imbalance between different types of processors, and employs a number of dynamic reconfigurable heterogeneous processors to offload the heavier loaded processors. Hardware utilization of such design can be enhanced, and variation in computation needs among different computation phases can be better handled. To design the dynamic reconfigurable heterogeneous processors, a method of how to choose the basic building blocks and place the routing components is included. With the present invention, performance can be maximized at a minimal hardware cost. Hence the dynamic reconfigurable heterogeneous processor(s) so constructed and the load balancing and dynamic allocation method together will have the best performance at least cost.

Copolymers comprising poly(α-olefin) having at least few p-alkylstyrene (para-alkylstyrene) groups or/and p-alkylstyrene derivatives within the structure therein, said polymer having monomer units represented by the structural formula: ##STR1## in which R, R' and R" are, independently, either hydrogen, alkyl, or primary or secondary alkyls. Preferably, R is hydrogen and C 1 to C 10 linear and branched alkyl, and most preferably R is hydrogen, C 1 and C 2 . R' and R" are hydrogen, C 1 to C 5 alkyl, or C 1 to C 5 primary or secondary alkyl, and most preferably R' and R" are hydrogen. F comprises a hydrogen or a functional group, such as --COOH, --OH, --NH 2 , --Cl, --Br, --M, --COOM (M=metals, e.g. Li, Na, K and Ca) etc., or a mixture of functional group and hydrogen. In the copolymer composition, the α-olefin mole % (m) is between about 5 and 99.9. Preferably, m is between 85 and 99.9, and most preferably m is between 95 and 99.9. The sum of m and n (mole % of p-alkylstyrene) is 100. The copolymer having a number average molecular weight (Mn) of at least about 1,000, and preferably at least about 10,000. Functionalized copolymers of α-olefin and para-alkylstyrene having the formula: ##STR1## in which in which R, R' and R", independently, are hydrogen or primary or secondary alkyl groups; X comprises a functional group, such as --COOH, --OH, --SH, --NH 2 , --Cl, --Br, --M, --COOM (M=metals, e.g. Li, Na, K and Ca) and anhydrides; P comprises a polymer having the molecular weight of at least about 500, which can be derived from both step and chain polymerization reactions; Y is a chemical linkage between polymer P and para-alkystyrene side chain, which is also a residue derived from graft reaction; and the combination of a+b+c+d represents the empirical formula of a substantially random functional polymer, where a ranges from about 50 to about 100,000, b, c and d range from 0 to about 10,000, and the sum of c+d is at least 1, and processes for preparing the funcitonalized copolymers are disclosed.

A method for continuous ethylene polymerization under high pressure using a polymerization reaction zone comprises a primary reaction zone and a secondary reaction zone wherein the secondary reaction zone has a length of 1.5-6.5 times the length of the primary reaction zone and a cross-sectional area of 1.2-4 times the cross-sectional area of the primary reaction zone. Initiator alone or an initiator mixture is introduced into the secondary reaction zone at two or more different points of the secondary reaction zone. Ethylene polymer products of various physical properties are produced with high productivity, while the pressure drop is minimized.

System for increasing a target zone for electrical ablation includes a treatment control module executable by a processor. The control module directs a pulse generator to apply pre-conditioning pulses to subject tissue cells in a pre-conditioning zone to electroporation, the pre-conditioning zone being smaller than a target ablation zone. After the pre-conditioning pulses have been applied, the control module directs the pulse generator to apply treatment pulses to electrically ablate the tissue cells in the target ablation zone. The pre-conditioning pulses cause the pre-conditioning zone to have a much higher conductivity so that the zone acts as a larger electrode area when the treatment pulses are applied, which results in a much larger target ablation zone than otherwise possible.

Copolymers comprising poly(α-olefin) having at least few p-alkylstyrene (para-alkylstyrene) groups or/and p-alkylstyrene derivatives within the structure therein, said polymer having monomer units represented by structural formula (A), in which R, R' and R' are, independently, either hydrogen, alkyl, or primary or secondary alkyls. Preferably, R is hydrogen and C1 to C10 linear and branched alkyl, and most preferably R is hydrogen, C1 and C2. R' and R' are hydrogen, C1 to C5 alkyl, or C1 to C5 primary or secondary alkyl, and most preferably R' and R' are hydrogen. F comprises a hydrogen or a functional group, such as -COOH, -OH, -NH2, -Cl, -Br, -M, -COOM (M = metals, e.g. Li, Na, K and Ca) etc., or a mixture of functional group and hydrogen. In the copolymer composition, the α-olefin mole % (m) is between about 5 and 99.9. Preferably, m is between 85 and 99.9, and most preferably m is between 95 and 99.9. The sum of m and n (mole % of p-alkylstyrene) is 100. The copolymer having a number average molecular weight (Mn) of at least about 1,000, and preferably at least about 10,000. The copolymers also preferably have a ratio of weight average molecular weight (Mw) to number average molecular weight, or Mw/Mn of less than about 8, more preferably less than about 4, most preferably less than about 2.5. Also disclosed are polymerization process, involving transition metal catalysts (especially metallocene compounds with constrained ligand geometry) for producing α-olefin/p-alkylstyrene copolymers, and subsequently derivatization processes for producing functionalized copolymers of α-olefin and p-alkylstyrene by the functionalization of benzylic protons in p-alkylstyrene units of copolymer.

An undersea telecommunications cable comprises a buffer tube which protects a plurality of optical fibers disposed therein from externally applied forces. To this end, the buffer tube contains a thixotropic, water blocking gel that has a viscosity and a critical yield shear stress sufficient to couple, upon application of a tensile load capable of producing up to a 0.8% strain in the cable, tensile forces from the buffer tube to the optical fibers to thereby induce strain in the fibers that is proportional to that induced in the tube, without preventing the return of the optical fibers to a substantially unstrained condition upon the removal of such tensile load. Should it become necessary to repair a section of the undersea cable as by retrieving it from the sea bed and inserting a spliced segment, existing sections of the fiber will be sufficiently protected from any damage which might otherwise have been caused during the cable retreival and recovery operation.

Polymeric hydrocarbons having reactive borane groups at chain ends or in the polymer chain are described. These types of polymers can be used as intermediate materials for preparing a broad range of polymers which have functional groups located at both ends of the polymer chain (telechelic polymers). The process of preparing the borane-containing polymers involves metathesis degradation of the polymer at the double bond locations in the backbone and simultaneous functionalization of the broken chain ends by borane monomers. Depending on the nature of the borane monomer, the location of boron atoms can be controlled to be at either the chain ends (telechelic) or in the polymer backbone. The concentration of boron in the resulting polymer is related to the reaction time and the mole ratio between borane monomer and the double bonds in the starting hydrocarbon polymer. In turn, the borane groups are interconvertible to various functional groups, such as OH, NH 2 , and halides, under mild reaction conditions. Overall, the chemistry is very general and is applicable to most hydrocarbon polymers. A wide variety of telechelic polymers are obtained.

A process for manufacturing an ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) sole that involves weighing molding compounds for manufacturing the sole. The molding compounds include, by weight, 65-75% of ethylene vinyl acetate pellets, 3-5% of blowing agents, 20-30% of fillers, and 1-2% of crosslinking agents. The molded compounds are mixed, and extruded by means of a twin screw extruder so as to form a web of unfoamed extruded output. The web is cut into sheets. At least one of the sheets is placed into a first mold unit, which is heated and pressurized so as to form a rough foamed sole. The rough foamed sole is placed into a second mold unit, which is heated, pressurized, and cooled so as to form an embossed sole with a predetermined pattern. The embossed sole is trimmed so as to form a finished ethylene vinyl acetate sole.

Polyolefin graft copolymers are disclosed which comprise a polyolefin homopolymer or copolymer backbone polymer having a plurality of free radically polymerized polymeric segments chemically bonded as side chains. It has been found that the use of a borane-containing polyolefin comprising a copolymer of at least one alpha-olefin having from about 2 to 22 carbon atoms copolymerized with another monomer containing organoborane functional groups can be used as a backbone polymer to prepare the graft copolymers of the present invention. Under oxidation conditions, the borane group becomes the reaction site for the free radical polymerization and copolymerization. Numerous free radical polymerizable monomers, such as methyl methacrylate, styrene, alpha-methylstyrene, acrylonitrile and the like, can be polymerized to yield high molecular weight graft copolymers. By this synthetic route, high graft efficiency is observed with only a very low concentration of homopolymer being produced.

The end capping agents include acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, glycidyl methacrylate, or 2-amino acrylic acid. The resin and the UV curable monomer have a weight ratio of 100:30 to 100:5000, and the resin and the photo initiator have a weight ratio of 100:30 to 100:500.

An undersea telecommunications cable comprises a buffer tube which protects a plurality of optical fibers disposed therein from externally applied forces. To this end, the buffer tube contains a thixotropic, water blocking gel that has a viscosity and a critical yield shear stress sufficient to couple, upon application of a tensile load capable of producing up to a 0.8% strain in the cable, tensile forces from the buffer tube to the optical fibers to thereby induce strain in the fibers that is proportional to that induced in the tube, without preventing the return of the optical fibers to a substantially unstrained condition upon the removal of such tensile load. Should it become necessary to repair a section of the undersea cable as by retrieving it from the sea bed and inserting a spliced segment, existing sections of the fiber will be sufficiently protected from any damage which might otherwise have been caused during the cable retreival and recovery operation.

The catalyst system is advantageous because it combines the very high activity of modern polymerization catalysts with the broader molecular weight distribution of older titanium trichloride catalysts. Broader molecular weight distributions are desirable for certain applications such as BOPP film and HCPP (high crystallinity polypropylene).
