The method of the invention generally includes the steps of inter-mixing choline and an excipient, spray drying this mixture in the presence of a lubricating agent and adding an additional portion of hydrophobic stabilizing agent, to the mixture.

A rolling mill includes a pair of horizontal work rolls mounted in a housing, one of the rolls being vertically adjustable in the housing, and the housing being vertically adjustable in a support structure, such that roll pass adjustment is made without altering the pass line. One work roll 16 is mounted in adjustable chocks 14 in U-shaped frames 12, while a second work roll 18 is mounted in housing members 20 which are prestressed to the frame 12. Shafts 28 which support the roll housing, when rotated by worm-driven internallysplined gears 40, move the housing vertically, by virtue of screwed portions 30 rotating in nuts 32 attached to the support structure, and also adjust the lower chocks 14 relative to the housing, using screwed portions 36. Since the pitch of each portion 36 is twice that on portion 30 the work rolls are equally adjusted about a pass line 48. Lateral movement of the housing in the support structure is possible using the wings 56 on the housing which are adjustable by bolts. The bearing between the housing and support structure is also adjustable, by means of wedges 62 and 54. Axial adjustment of the rolls is also provided for. The nuts 32 are adjustable relative to the shafts 28 but are normally clamped in position, and in an alternative form the nuts are supported on trunnions in a plate secured to the support structure, allowing the housing to be easily removed vertically. The worm gears at each end of the rolls for pass adjustment may be adjusted independently or together. The worm gears are attached to a shaft 75 (Fig. 5, not shown), and a sleeve 76, the shaft being rotated through gears 87 and 86 by a hand wheel 80, while the sleeve is rotated through gears 82 and 81 by a hand wheel 85. A rack for shipping articles such as automobile parts and a modular dunnage system therefor maintains the articles in a fixed, spaced relation. The dunnage pods may be molded to compliment the configuration of the article being shipped, to minimize opportunities for jostling or shifting during transport and maximize storage efficiency. The article rack of the invention is readily adaptable to supporting articles of a specific predetermined configuration in a stable, fixed position, and can be adapted to articles of a different configuration merely by changing the dunnage pods and/or mounting members as required to suit the particular article. In the preferred embodiment the dunnage pods are hingedly mounted to the rack and pivotable between a supporting position and a rest position in which the dunnage pods are retracted toward the side rails of the rack to allow greater clearance for the loading and unloading of articles from the rack. In the supporting position each dunnage pod supports the next higher dunnage pod in the column, thus transferring the weight of the stack of articles to the floor of the rack. A locking system comprises a cam-locked retaining bar which applies a uniform force across the top article in each stack, to retain the columns of pods in the supporting position.

A digital to analog converter including an R-2R ladder network receives digitally encoded sample signals in parallel through a set of chains of transistor switches, each chain having equal delay. The ladder network output impedance matches the characteristic impedance of a coaxial cable transmission line that couples the converter output to a utilization circuit. Output resistances of the switches which are connected to ladder network rung circuits are scaled in accordance with a predetermined algorithm to maintain symmetry of parallel connected resistive branches of the latter network seen at each rail terminal of the ladder. Three of the most significant bits of each input binary coded work are decoded to a bar code format before being coupled through the set of switch chains. Switch output conductances in the switch chains are scaled in accordance with a stage-to-stage conductance ratio F, and at selected stages of selected ones of the chains dummy-load switches are added to enable both conformance to that ratio and substantial equality of delay among all of the chains.

A flash analog-to-digital converter includes 2N comparator circuits for an N bit resolution. Each comparator comprises a summing capacitor which is alternately connected to a reference ladder and to the input signal. The majority of the capacitors are substantially charged and discharged between input potential and reference potential each cycle. The charging/discharging tends to load both the reference ladder and the input signal source. The loading is reduced by including a D.C. biased FET between the input signal source and each summing capacitor. Respective ones of the summing capacitors are thereby precluded from charging/discharging over the full input signal excursion which in turn reduces loading on associated circuitry.

A precise, high speed CMOS track (sample)/hold circuit uses a first circuit leg including four Schottky barrier diodes configured to form a Wheatstone bridge, a second leg with a single n-channel MOS transistor, an essentially constant current source having MOS transistors, a capacitor for holding output signal, and reverse biasing circuitry having MOS transistors for selectively reverse biasing the four diodes. An analog input signal is applied to the cathode of the first diode and to the anode of the second diode. An output signal of the same magnitude and polarity as the input signal is generated at an output terminal (the cathode of the third diode and the anode of the fourth diode) of the circuit when current flows through the first circuit leg. When the current flowing through the first circuit leg is switched to the second circuit leg, the capacitor, which is connected to an output terminal of the circuitry, holds the generated output signal level and the reverse biasing circuitry reverse biases all of the diodes so as to isolate the capacitor from all other components of the circuit.

System and method for remote identification of coded articles and the like

There is described an electronic interrogation and identification (I/I) system in which an interrogator/reader (I/R) unit operates remotely using a microwave beam in conjunction with one or more coded articles. The articles are identified by a unique method and search sequence. As the I/R unit interrogates the articles, one or more of them respond to the I/R unit whenever a code word (data value) sent from the I/R unit matches a code word stored in one or more of the memory positions within the articles. After searching through all of the possible code words and word positions the I/R unit will have identified at least one code word stored in each of the word positions of at least one article. Then combinations of the just-identified code words are matched with the respective stored words of the various articles. After being uniquely identified each article is "powered-down" on command from the I/R unit and remains inactive so that one-by-one all remaining articles are also identified.

The memory cell is a five transistor cell formed with complementary symmetry metal oxide (CMOS) semiconductor insulated gate field effect transistors (IGFETs) in the silicon-on-sapphire (SOS) technology with doped polycrystalline interconnects using buried contacts. Diodes are formed where doped polycrystalline silicon lines form buried contacts to underlying silicon epitaxial regions of opposite conductivity type and where silicon epitaxial regions of opposite conductivity type contact one another. The presence of these diodes has been shown by the inventor to not be detrimental to the operation of the memory cell.

The VCO circuit includes means for varying the potential across an inverting stage of a ring oscillator for changing its frequency of oscillation, while maintaining the quiescent point of the stage output centered between the two operating voltages powering the circuit. A current source is connected between the more positive of the two operating voltages and the positive voltage terminal of the stage and a current sink is connected between the more negative of the two operating voltages and the negative voltage terminal of the stage. The current supplied by the current source and the current drawn by the current sink are proportional to an input control voltage and are equal in magnitude. The oscillator stage is biased in the linear portion of its transfer characteristic and provides a conduction path between the current source and the current sink.

There is described a new process for the preparation of optically active 2-(2',2'-dihalogenovinyl)-cyclopropane-1-carboxylic acids substituted in the 3 position, and derivatives thereof. A racemate of certain cyclobutanones is reacted with a sulfurous acid salt of an optically active base to obtain a mixture of diastereomeric 4-(2',2',2'-trihalogenoethyl)-cyclobutane-2-sulfonic acid salts; this mixture is then separated into the pure diastereomeric sulfonic acid salts. Either the pure diastereomeric sulfonic acid salts are converted directly to the desired optically active products, or the optically active cyclobutanones obtained from the pure diastereomeric sulfonic acids salts by decomposition are converted, in the presence of a base, to the desired product. Optionally, the product, optically active 2-(2',2'-dihalogenovinyl)-cyclopropane-2-carboxylic acids can be converted to their 1',2'-dibromo derivatives.

The invention is a choline feed stock precursor having greater than about 80 wt.% of choline chloride, a lubricating agent, and an excipient. Generally, the composition of the invention may comprise a choline compound at concentrations above 80 wt.%, trace amounts of lubricating agent, and an excipient. To extend shelf-life, a hydrophobic stabilizing agent or adjuvant may be added to the composition of the invention. This preferred composition remains free-flowing when subjected to ambient conditions of up to 49 °C and less than 90 % relative humidity. The invention is also a process for formulating choline feed stock precursors, having greater than about 80 wt.% choline chloride. The method of the invention generally includes the steps of inter-mixing choline and an excipient, spray drying this mixture in the presence of lubricating agent and adding an additional portion of hydrophobic stabilizing agent, to the mixture.
