In accordance with the invention, in this method water is fed via the water inlet into the sump; the pressure within an inlet or outlet conduit of the circulating pump is measured; and based on the pressure measurement the washing cycle is controlled and/or indicator signals are issued to a user of the washer.

For washing a milker unit, the teat cups are inserted in respective flexible receivers which seal around the enlarged end portions of the teat cups and communicate with a distributor having an inlet connected to a vacuum line for washing liquid. During washing, a high vacuum in the milk pipe line raises a valve in the distributor, while closing a drain opening therefrom, and draws washing liquid through the distributor, the receivers, the teat cups therein, the milk claw connected to the teat cups, and then into the milk pipe line for washing the latter. After washing, atmospheric pressure prevailing in the milker unit and distributor allows the valve to drop to a position where excess washing liquid can drain through said opening. For milking, the teat cups are applied to the cow after removing them from the receivers, which are then stored by simply pushing them upwardly onto respective holders where they are automatically closed against entrance of dirt. During milking, the vacuum in the washing liquid line holds the valve against a seat to close the distributor inlet and prevent atmospheric air from entering the vacuum system. To remove the stored washing unit for a washing operation, the receivers are simply pulled down to release them from their holders.

In a data storage apparatus comprising means for storing and retrieving data in respective write and read operations, and first and second set of addressing electrodes are provided, the latter set having electrodes that preferably are oriented orthogonally to the electrodes of the first set, and the electrodes (b, c) of the second set are provided as parallel twin electrodes located in parallel recesses or trenches (3) in the electrodes of the first set. The trenches compris a soft ferroelectric or electret memory material with piezoelectric properties such that memory cells (1) with two subcells (.alpha.1, .alpha.2) are formed in the trench (3) respectively between the electrodes (a) of the first set and the parallel twin electrodes (b, c) on either side of the latter. In a write operation data are encoded in the memory cells (1) by means of an applied voltage potential over the subcells (.alpha.1, .alpha.2). In a non-destructive readout operation of data encoded and stored in the memory cells (1) in this manner, the piezoelectric properties of the memory material (2) is employed for eliciting response signals from the subcells (.alpha.1, .alpha.2) of a memory cell (1) when the former are subjected to mechanical stresses in the lateral direction, such that the logical value stored in the memory cell (1) can be determined.

In a method for determining a logic state of a memory cell in a data storage device, wherein the cell stores data in the form of an electrical polarization state in a capacitor containing a polarizable material, a time-dependent small-signal voltage is applied over the capacitor, and at least one component of a generated small-signal current response is recorded. This component shall have either a linear or non-linear relationship to the small-signal voltage, such that logic state can be determined by temporal correlation between the small-signal voltage and a recorded component. According to a first embodiment, an apparatus for performing a phase comparison in the above method comprises a phase-sensitive detector and discriminator, connected with a memory cell for receiving a response signal therefrom and with a signal generator for receiving the read signal input to the memory cell, applying the read signal as a reference in the phase sensitive detector and discriminator for determining a logic state of the memory cell.

An electrically addressable passive device for recording, storage and/or processing of data comprises a functional medium in the form of a continuous or patterned structure which may undergo a physical or chemical change of state. The functional medium is realized as a homogenous or stratified structure comprising a least one substantially organic material. The functional medium comprises individually addressable cells which represent a registered or detected value or are assigned a predetermined logical value for the cell. The cell is provided between the anode and cathode in an electrode means which contacts the function medium in the cell and causes an electrical coupling therethrough, whereby the cell directly can be supplied with energy which effects a change in the state of the cell, the functional medium having an overall non-linear impedance characteristic, and said at least one substantially organic material of the functional medium being a polymer material. In the method the addressing comprises operations for i.a. detection and recording as well as further operations for writing, reading and switching of a logical value assigned to the cell, electric energy is applied directly to the functional medium of the cell in order to change its state and hence effect an addressing operation. It can be used in optical detector means, volumetric data storage devices or data processing devices.
