The processing window for thermosetting resins that contain particulate hardeners is prolonged using the combined steps of heat-treating the resin to form a low-viscosity resin mixture in which the particles are dissolved and then moulding the low-viscosity resin mixture at temperatures below the dissolution temperature of the particles to infuse a fibrous preform. Utilization of mine methane produced by mining a non-combustible ore, such as trona, as an energy source for heat, steam, and/or power generation. Such utilization is beneficial for a surface appliance which is close to surface outlet(s) of mine methane recovery system(s). A method for reducing greenhouse gas emissions generated during mining of a non-combustible ore uses the combustion of co-produced mine methane. The mine methane is recovered in a mine ventilation air exhaust with very low methane content and may be additionally recovered in a drainage gas, such as gob gas, with much higher methane content. The surface appliance may be selected from the group consisting of calciner, dryer, boiler, kiln, furnace, engine, turbine, power generation unit, co-generation unit, and any combinations thereof. Benefits may include reduction in energy purchases, reduction in greenhouse emissions, and/or gain through sale of carbon credits to the carbon market by registering carbon reductions.

Thermosetting resins are provided that are toughened with an irradiated thermoplastic toughening agent. The resins have reduced levels of solvent-induced micro crack formation and do not lose their adhesiveness when attacked by solvent. The thermoplastic toughening agent is treated with a sufficient amount of high-energy radiation (e.g. electron beam or gamma rays) to cause reductions in solvent-induced micro crack formation and solvent-induced loss of adhesiveness when compared to the same toughened thermosetting resin in which a non-irradiated version of the thermoplastic toughening agent is used. 1. A method for determining copy number variations includes tagging double-stranded polynucleotides with duplex tags, sequencing polynucleotides from the sample and estimating total number of polynucleotides mapping to selected genetic loci. The estimate of total number of polynucleotides can involve estimating the number of double-stranded polynucleotides in the original sample for which no sequence reads are generated. A negative pressure wound therapy system can include a negative pressure source configured to provide, via a fluid flow path, negative pressure to a wound covered by a wound dressing. The system can include a controller. The controller can be configured to periodically activate the negative pressure source to maintain negative pressure in the fluid flow path between a low negative pressure setpoint and a high negative pressure setpoint. The controller can be configured to determine a change in a volume of the wound based on a difference between a first time and a second time at which the high negative pressure setpoint has been established in the fluid flow path, the second time being subsequent to the first time. The controller can be configured to provide indication of the change in the volume of the wound.

Methods of preparing double-stranded nucleic acids with single-stranded overhangs for amplification and sequencing are disclosed. Contacting a blunt-ended double-stranded nucleic acid molecules with Taq results in non-templated directed addition of a single nucleotide to the 3' ends of the nucleic acid with A added most frequently followed by G followed by C and T. G tailing is sufficiently frequent that the efficiency of ligation of nucleic acid molecules to adapters can be significantly increased by including adapters tailed with T and C. The ligation efficiency can be increased even further with blunted-ended adapters to ligate to blunt-ended nucleic acid molecules that failed to undergo tailing.
