A reflector bar having a reflector surface is mounted on the interior surface of the skin at a location spaced from the transducer and is effective to reflect acoustic energy back to the transducer. The reflector bar is raised from the interior surface and preferably has a width equal to the width of the acoustic wave that is generated by the transducer at the reflector location. The transducer and reflector are non-intrusive and do not alter the aircraft skin structural integrity. The arrangement provides an accurate, responsive sensor for determining presence of ice or other contaminants on the exterior surface of the skin.

The mounting coupler may include a body and spaced apart first and second magnets. The body may include a forward wall configured to couple with the personal navigation device and a rear wall configured to couple with the base assembly. The magnets may be aligned with the magnets of the personal navigation device to ensure proper orientation of the personal navigation device on the mounting coupler.

During a lateral rotation of the head of the user while the shaft is secured to the user, the shaft remains secured to the neck of the user and rotates with the head of the user, such that the chin support maintains contact with the chin of the user.

Changes in the differential in temperature between the first (26) and second (28) temperature sensors indicates when the heat conductivity between the first (26) and second (28) temperature sensors changes, due to presence or absence of a liquid in the container (10) at the level of the temperature sensors (26, 28).
