Anionic cyclopentadienyl-carbohydrate compounds (I), are new. Independent claims are included for: (1) a metallocene-carbohydrate compound of formula ((I) n-MXY1-(II) 2 - n) (A); and (2) the preparation of metallocene-carbohydrate compound comprising reacting a carbohydrate in the furanose form with (I), where the carbohydrate shows the following features: the glycosidic OH-group is protected or is bonded in place of nucleobase or N-alkylated nucleobase to form a furanose ring, the further both OH groups bound directly at the furanose ring are protected and the exocyclic, was transported over a methyl group with the furanose ring connected OH-group in a leaving group accessible for nucleophilic substitution, deprotonating the obtained carbohydrate-cyclopentadiene-compound, and transmetallizing the obtained carbohydrate cyclopentadienyl salt with a mediator compound of scandium, yttrium, lanthanum, titanium, zirconium, hafnium, vanadium, niobium, tantalum, chromium, molybdenum, tungsten, manganese, technetium, rhenium, iron, ruthenium, osmium, cobalt, rhodium, iridium, nickel, palladium, platinum, copper, silver, gold, zinc, cadmium or mercury. M : Sc, Y, La, Ti (preferred), Zr, Hf, V, Nb, Ta, Cr, Mo, W, Mn, Tc, Re, Fe, Ru, Os, Co, Rh, Ir, Ni, Pd, Pt, Cu, Ag, Au, Zn, Cd and/or Hg; X, Y1 : halo (preferably chlorine), alkoxy, alkyl, aryl, aryloxy, benzyl or benzoate; either R5a-R5e : H (preferred) or alkyl; or R5a+R5b+R5c+R5d+R5e : aromatic, olefinic and/or aliphatic carbo- or heterocyclic; and n : 1 or 2.
