A mooring failure detector, for attachment to a mooring chain or wire rope, includes a power source, which is activated by the rupture of a rupture element, caused by a change in depth and hence pressure of the device. Activation of the power QC source provides power to a transmitter to signal the failure, either by acoustic or radio frequency means. The device can operate on an inclined mooring such that failure above or below the point of attachment results in a failure signal being transmitted.

ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method and apparatus is disclosed for harmonizing the protocol of a private branch exchange (PBX), servicing a plurality of stations, with the protocol of an enhanced "9-1-1-" emergency call network. The PBX is provided with a plurality of connections. A switching tandem of the emergency call network is also provided with a plurality of connections. A harmonization module is provided which has a first plurality of connections corresponding in type and number to the connections of the PBX. A second plurality of connections corresponds in type and number to the connections of the switching tandem. The connections of the PBX are interconnected with the corresponding first plurality of connections of the harmonization module using tie-line interconnections. The connections of the switching tandem are interconnected with the corresponding second plurality of connections of the harmonization module. A plurality of trunk interconnections is used for this purpose. A connection of the PBX is exercised in response to transmission of a signal indicative of initiating of an emergency call by one of the stations serviced by the PBX. The exercise of the PBX connection is sensed at the corresponding connection of the harmonization module. A trunk interconnecting a connection of the harmonization module and a corresponding connection of the switching tandem is seized. The switching tandem is caused to respond to the harmonization module. The response of the switching tandem at the harmonization module is sensed and the existence of the response condition relayed to the PBX. The invention secures the identification of the particular station and transmission of information to a public safety answering point so that the public safety answering point can call back to the station initiating the call and process information provided in order to specifically identify location of the station initiating the call.

The biasing spring of a valve is excited and the response detected to determine valve characteristics. Excitation is typically longitudinal oscillation applied by a vibrator connected in series with the spring. By performing a frequency sweep, resonance can be detected, and excitation can usefully be applied at the resonant frequency to produce valve lift. Testing can be performed in-situ, and maintenance of a plurality of valves is possible by collecting characteristic data for each valve and comparing against stored values.
