Method of encapsulating active agents with inorganic coatings

A method for forming discrete capsules that contain an active agent, such as a pesticide, involves first forming a suspension of the active agent suspended in a solution of an alkali metal silicate such as sodium silicate or a suspension of the active agent suspended in a liquid coacervate resulting from the addition of a coacervation agent such as acetone to the alkali metal silicate solution. The suspension, preferably in the form of droplets formed by ejecting the suspension through an orifice (e.g. a needle), is then contacted with an aqueous solution of a salt such as calcium chloride which reacts with the alkali metal silicate to form an insoluble silicate (e.g., calcium silicate) coating for the active agent while hardening the dispersed active agent in a silicate core matrix. Thus, capsules of the active agent are produced with an insoluble silicate coating. The capsules are maintained in the aqueous salt solution for a sufficient period of time to permit a high degree of conversion of soluble silicate to insoluble silicate. The capsules are then isolated and dried thereby providing structurally intact capsules which act as a free-flow powder. The capsules provide controlled release of the active agent over a prolonged period of time. Methods for preparing such capsules within a three hour period have been devices thereby improving substantially the economics of encapsulating active agents with inorganic coatings. Such brief preparation times are achieved through the use of soluble silicates rich in SiO 2 and by increasing the temperature of the aqueous solution of the salt such as calcium chloride to effectively expedite the capsule curing process.

A method and instrument for placing an implant in the teat duct and udder of an animal, as a milk cow. The instrument has an elongated tubular member having a passage accommodating the implant. The tubular member is adapted to be inserted into the milk duct through the discharge end thereof. A head having finger gripping ears is attached to the tubular member. The implant is moved from the passage with a piston connected to a rod extended through the head. A hand engaging member secured to the rod is used in cooperation with the ears to apply force to the rod to move the piston in the passage to move the implant into the teat duct and udder. The implant has a core of an elongated flexible plastic string. A plurality of bands are clamped about the core. Alternate bands are coated with a first metal, as silver. The remaining bands are coated with a second metal, as gold. All of the bands may be coated with the same metal, such as silver. The implant includes a capsule implant containing material that reacts with the silver to produce silver ions which have advantageous antibacterial effects.

A chassis in a wheelchair assembly interconnects forward large wheels having hand rims and a reclining chair via a recliner mechanism and supports side panels for the assembly. Rear caster wheels are connected to the rear of the side panels. The occupant of the wheelchair normally has his center of gravity centered between the forward and rear wheels. The chassis has an H-configuration as seen in plan. An underlying transverse tube of rectangular cross-section is welded to the undersides of two square cross-section tubes extending in the usual direction of travel of the wheelchair. One-half inch thick bars are welded to the transverse bar and inclined upwardly therefrom for mounting the axles for the large wheels. A horizontal brace is welded between the inclined bars and the upper aspects of the tubes of rectangular cross-section to provide an extremely strong and rigid all welded, all steel chassis.

A plurality of C-shaped resilient fingers integrally molded with the inner frame, outer frame or the sleeve member is located between the upper flange of the sleeve and the inner and outer frames. The lower edge of the sleeve member extends below the level of the inkable pad when the spring member is in the relaxed position. Downward pressure on the outer frame is transmitted by the detachable connection to the inner frame. The result is that the inkable pad contacts a surface to be stamped and the sleeve member telescopes into the inner and outer frames, compressing the C-shaped resilient fingers. Each end of the resilient fingers has a projection with a tapered upper surface and an engaging lower surface facilitating assembly of the structure wherein the sleeve member is slipped over the inner frame so that the flange is located between the projection and the retaining ridge.

The cross-sectional area of the lead pass bar helps to produce a substantially continuous threaded rebar product without longitudinal ribs using standard rebar manufacturing tooling and equipment.

The valve has flexible side walls terminating in normally closed lips. A slit mouth is located between the lips. The slit mouth can be opened to facilitate the dispensing of medicinal compounds into the teat and udder of the mammal. An inserter having a rod extended through the one-way valve and tubular member is used to place the dilator in the teat duct and duct outlet, with the one-way valve located at the terminal end of the teat.

The location of a sublimation front may be calculated for each measured vial, and the freeze drying process may be controlled using the data.

An outer frame is detach-ably connected to the inner frame and a hollow sleeve member is interposed between the inner and outer frames. The sleeve member has an upper flange which is located above the integral retaining ridge. A plurality of C-shaped resilient fingers integrally molded with the inner frame, outer frame or the sleeve member is located be-tween the upper flange of the sleeve member and the inner and outer frames. The at least one cathode assembly, the at least one anode assembly and the at least one bipolar electrode assembly are received into the battery box such that a liquid, and/or gas seal is formed, between electrode assemblies. The battery housing has slots into which the electrode assemblies are received. When the electrode assemblies are received into the housing, cells are formed by the cooperation of the electrode assemblies and the battery housing. The cells are then filled with electrolyte such as zinc bromide and a lid is placed on the battery box. Once sealed the battery box is a liquid tight container for the battery.

The battery-housing is adapted to receive at least one anode assembly, at least one cathode assembly, and at least one bipolar electrode assembly. At least the bipolar electrode assembly is formed from a conductive plastic resin that is formed as a CPE sheet. A carbon material is affixed to the CPE sheet to form the bipolar electrode. The at least one cathode assembly, the at least one anode assembly and the at least one bipolar electrode assembly are received into the battery box such that a liquid and/or gas seal is formed between electrode assemblies. The battery housing has slots into which the electrode assemblies are received. When the electrode assemblies are received into the housing, cells are formed by the cooperation of the electrode assemblies and the battery housing. The cells are then filled with electrolyte such as zinc bromide and a lid is placed on the battery- box. Once sealed the battery box is a liquid tight container for the battery.
