A patient ventilation device comprises a sac 40 of flexible material having a closed end 41 and an open end 42 adapted to be applied to the face of the patient around the nose and mouth with an adhesive surface 43 which seals around the nose and mouth. The sac contains a filling of comfortable material adapted to mould to the contours of the face and seal around the mouth and nose of the patient, such that the nose is blocked by the sac. The device has an opening through the sac in the region of the mouth, wherein the mouth opens through the opening enabling ventilation via the mouth. The comfortable material may be a gel 44, and the adhesive layer may be a hydrocolloid adhesive. The opening through the sac is provided by a tube 46 which has one end 47 extending within the patient's mouth and the other end 48 projects externally.

An embryo transfer catheter assembly has a catheter (1), which can be advanced along an outer sheath (2). The catheter (1) has a first passage (13) opening at its tip (15) by which an embryo can be transferred to the uterus. The other end of the pull rod (19) is attached to a hub (21), which is screw threaded onto the catheter hub (18). The tip (15) of the catheter (1) can be bent to one side by unscrewing the hub (21) of the pull rod (19) from the catheter hub (18) so that it moves rearwardly and pulls the pull rod and the tip of the catheter, thereby bending it to one side. Alternatively, one side of the catheter (30) could include an electrically contractive material (37) so that, when a current is applied, the side reduces in length and pulls the tip to one side.

Conventional tracheostomy tubes have a sealing cuff inflated by an inflation lumen extending along the tube. The tube may also have a suction lumen opening just above the cuff to enable collected secretions to be removed. In the present invention the tracheostomy tube is moulded and has channels extending along opposite sides for a suction tube and an inflation tube. The suction tube opens into a recess on the outside of the tracheostomy tube through a side opening oriented at right angles to the radius of the tracheostomy tube. The recess extends around about 90° of the tube towards its outer curve so that secretions collecting in this region can be removed.
