A cotton gin for use in a pneumatic cotton harvesting machine. The gin is located in the harvester downstream of the pneumatic picking heads. The gin receives seed bearing cotton balls on a front side of a fiber separation plate. Co-acting and oppositely rotating toothed fiber separation blades protrude through the separation plate and incrementally tear the cotton fiber free from the cotton ball leaving behind the seeds. The separated cotton fiber is, thereafter, drawn from the back or downstream side of the separation plate to a dust collector and then bailed in a dry condition in the harvester in the field. The separated seeds remain in the gin and fall downwardly, via gravity toward and into a seed collecting bin.

Each pair of pieces A and B is fastened together by screws and nuts C, and the two pairs are themselves joined together by crosspieces D, which have holes fitting over screws attached to the lower piece of each pair A and B and passed through holes in the upper piece. A number of holes are formed at one end of each piece D so that it can be adjusted in position as required. The Provisional Specification states that the appliance also serves to remove bagginess at the knees.

The material is placed in the drying-chamber 1, which is surrounded by a water jacket 2 and heated by a suitable burner 4. The gas supply to the burner is regulated by a slide valve 6 controlling the supply pipe 5 so as to maintain a uniform temperature of 212‹ F. in the chamber. The steam space of the water jacket is connected to the underside of a flexible diaphragm 11, which is connected to a lever 9 carrying an adjustable weight 13 and connected to the valve by a link 8. The chamber is provided with an internal rim 18 to catch condensed moisture. In a modification, a rotary plug valve actuated by a coiled flexible Bourdon tube may be used.

A cotton gin for use in a pneumatic cotton harvesting machine. The gin is located in the harvester downstream of the pneumatic picking heads. The gin receives seed bearing cotton balls on a front side of a fiber separation plate. Co-acting and oppositely rotating toothed fiber separation blades protrude through the separation plate and incrementally tear the cotton fiber free from the cotton ball leaving behind the seeds. The separated cotton fiber is, thereafter, drawn from the back or downstream side of the separation plate to a dust collector and then bailed in a dry condition in the harvester in the field. Titanium alloys with an improved and unexpected combination of corrosion resistance, strength, ductility and toughness are provided. The titanium alloys contain molybdenum, nickel, zirconium, iron, and oxygen as alloying agents. Also the titanium alloys may be subjected to thermal treatments. The titanium alloys can include molybdenum between 3.0 to 4.5 wt. %, nickel between 0.1 to 1.0 wt. %, zirconium between 0.1 to 1.5 wt. %, iron between 0.05 to 0.3 wt. %, oxygen between 0.05 to 0.25 wt. %, and a balance of titanium and unavoidable impurities. Titanium alloys formed into a part or component used in applications where a key design criterion is the energy absorbed during deformation of the part when exposed to impact, explosive blast, and/or other forms of shock loading is described. The titanium alloys generally comprise a titanium base with added amounts of aluminum, an isomorphous beta stabilizing element such as vanadium, a eutectoid beta stabilizing element such as silicon and iron, and incidental impurities. The titanium alloys exhibit up to 70% or more improvement in ductility and up to a 16% improvement in ballistic impact resistance over a Ti-6Al-4V alloy, as well as absorbing up to 50% more energy than the Ti-6Al-4V alloy in Charpy impact tests. A method of forming a part that incorporates the titanium alloys and uses a combination of recycled materials and new materials is also described.

Disposed in and extending across the lower portion of the inner shell and upstream of the fluidized bed is a support member for supporting the fluidized bed, the support member having uniform slots for directing uniform gas flow to the fluidized bed from a fluidizing gas orifice disposed upstream of the support member. Disposed in the lower portion of the inner shell are a plurality of internal electric resistance heaters for heating the fluidized bed. Disposed circumferentially about the outside length of the inner shell are a plurality of external heaters for heating the inner shell thereby heating the fluidized bed. Further, connected to the internal and external heaters is a means for maintaining the fluidized bed temperature to within plus or minus approximately 25° C. of a predetermined bed temperature. Disposed about the external heaters is the outer shell for providing radiative heat reflection back to the inner shell.

SEISMIC IMPULSE SOURCE TRANSDUCER ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A spark discharge acoustic pulse transducer for borehole operation provides an insulating ceramic barrier which contains a small cross-section aperture separating two bodies of electrolyte through which the two zones of liquid make contact. An electrical arc discharge is caused to occur through the aperture to produce a transient pressure pulse and associated acoustic pulse which is coupled to the geologic formation at the borehole wall. The specific shape and geometry of the aperture channel in the insulating barrier being exponentially shaped provides a means for controlling the waveform and frequency spectrum of the acoustic pulse. The transducer has an elastic outer housing and an elastic inner housing with hydraulic fluid between the inner and outer housings. The pressure of the hydraulic fluid may be increased to expand the outer housing against a borehole prior to a spark discharge. The transducer is also provided with a system for venting gas produced as a result of the spark discharge.

The present invention is directed to an assembly and a method of treating rainwater to produce potable water. A compact and easy-to-install apparatus is achievable as a result of a simple, yet highly effective sanitisation method. Rainwater is entrained with a gas, and the entrained rainwater is irradiated with an ultraviolet (UV) light to fully sanitise the rainwater. The UV light is used during the irradiation of the entrained water and is also used to form a gaseous bactericide which is used to entrain the rainwater. None of the disadvantages of the prior art systems apply to any rainwater treatment systems which use this method. All of the connections between the component parts may be already provided for in this rainwater treatment unit, and consequently both installation and maintenance costs will be significantly reduced in comparison to the rainwater treatment systems which are known from the prior art.

A block copolymer perfluorosulfonic acid ionomer is disclosed with low average equivalent weight comprising both hydrophilic and hydrophobic blocks of relatively low and relatively high equivalent weights respectively. Such ionomer can be made by polymerizing a suitable mixture of hydrophilic and hydrophobic monomers and then, upon reaching a certain molecular weight, performing a second polymerizing using the same monomers but with a greater relative amount of hydrophobic monomer. Such ionomer should provide both improved mechanical properties and performance in solid polymer electrolyte fuel cells. It is expected that the presence of the larger hydrophobic blocks and the larger hydrophilic blocks would enhance mechanical stability and increase proton conductivity respectively, particularly under hot and dry operating conditions in automotive fuel cell applications.

A method and apparatus is provided for removing fluids, particularly entrained and/or adherent fluids, from drill cuttings generated during the well drilling process. A generally cylindrical wire-wrapped screen having a bore therethrough rotates about its longitudinal axis. Suction pressure is applied through the inner bore of the cylindrical wire-wrapped screen. As fluid-laden drill cuttings are deposited on the outer surface of the cylindrical wire-wrapped screen, fluids are drawn off of the cuttings and evacuated from the inner bore of the cylindrical wire-wrapped screen. Solid components of the cuttings remain on the outer surface of the cylindrical wire-wrapped screen and eventually roll off the screen. A scraping member is provided to agitate cuttings deposited on the outer surface of the cylindrical wire-wrapped screen.

Said silylating step is accomplished by contacting said solid material with an organic-or halogen-substituted silane at a temperature of between about 25°C and about 500°C to effect bonding between said silane and the surface hydroxyl groups of said solid. Said calcining step is accomplished by heating the resulting silylated solid at a temperature and for a time sufficient to remove substantially all of any introduced organic or halogen substituent. Said steaming step is accomplished by contacting the resulting calcined solid with an atmosphere containing at least 2 percent by volume of steam at a temperature of between about 900°F and about 1600°F for at least about 1/2 hour. Organic compound conversion, e.g. hydrocarbon compound conversion, such as, for example, cracking with one or more of said modified refractory metal oxide solid materials as a catalyst is also provided.

Said gel is obtained by mixing into an aqueous medium sufficient biopolymer amounts of a Xanthan or Alcaligene polysaccharide. This mixture is maintained at a pH of 5.5 while an aminoplast resin in excess of 4,000 ppm is added thereto which causes said gel to form in 0.5 to 6 hours. The resultant gel is suitable for use in a carbon-dioxide flood process. Said gels are very stable at a pH of less than 5.5.

The present invention relates to radiation reactors for sanitising fluids. In order to improve the efficiency of the irradiation process whilst maintaining flow rate through the radiation reactor, the tubular casing also comprises at least one protrusion on the inner wall of the casing and the protrusion extends into a flow path of the fluid such that the protrusion interrupts the first direction of rotation imparted to the fluid by directing the fluid out of the first direction of rotation.

The present invention is directed to an assembly and a method of treating rainwater to produce potable water. A compact and easy-to-install apparatus is achievable as a result of a simple, yet highly effective sanitisation method. Rainwater is entrained with a gas, and the entrained rainwater is irradiated with an ultraviolet (UV) light to fully sanitise the rainwater. The UV light is used during the irradiation of the entrained water and is also used to form a gaseous bactericide which is used to entrain the rainwater. None of the disadvantages of the prior art systems apply to any rainwater treatment systems which use this method. All of the connections between the component parts may be already provided for in this rainwater treatment unit, and consequently both installation and maintenance costs will be significantly reduced in comparison to the rainwater treatment systems which are known from the prior art.
