A microtensiometer sensor includes a substrate layer fluidly coupled to an enclosed reservoir. A porous membrane is disposed on a surface of the substrate layer. The porous membrane includes a plurality of through holes fluidly coupling the liquid reservoir to the vapor interface, and a nanoporous filler material disposed within the plurality of through holes. In one embodiment, the microtensiometer sensor includes a molecular membrane disposed adjacent to the vapor side of the porous membrane. In one example, the molecular membrane is formed of a highly crystalline polytetrafluoroethylene polymer having a microstructure characterized by nodes interconnected by fibrils. In one application, the microtensiometer sensor may be used in a probe to measure the average water potential within a network of plant or tree xylem. The instant invention provides a process for reductive amination of aliphatic cyanoaldehydes to aliphatic diamines, and aliphatic diamines produced via such method. The instant invention provides a process for separating one or more aliphatic diamines from reductive amination reaction solvents and impurities, and aliphatic diamines obtained via such a process. The process for separating one or more aliphatic diamines from reductive amination reaction solvents and impurities according to the instant invention comprises the steps of: (1) feeding one or more cycloaliphatic cyanoaldehydes, hydrogen, ammonia, and optionally one or more solvents into a continuous reductive amination reactor system; (2) contacting said one or more cycloaliphatic cyanoaldehydes, hydrogen, and ammonia with each other in the presence of one or more heterogeneous metal based catalyst systems at a temperature in the range of from 80° C. to about 160° C. and a pressure in the range of from 700 to 3500 psig; (3) thereby forming a product mixture comprising one or more cycloaliphatic diamines, optionally one or more bicyclic by-products, optionally one or more cycloaliphatic aminonitriles, optionally one or more cycloaliphatic aminoalcohols, optionally one or more oligomeric by-products, ammonia, water, hydrogen, and optionally one or more solvents; (4) removing said product mixture from the reactor system; (5) removing at least a portion of said ammonia, said hydrogen, or mixture thereof from said product mixture via distillation; (6) removing at least a portion of said water and said one or more optional solvents via distillation; (7) removing at least a portion of one or more optional bicyclic by-products via distillation; (8) removing one or more optional cycloaliphatic aminonitriles, one or more optional cycloaliphatic aminoalcohols, one or more optional oligomeric by-products via distillation; and (9) thereby separating said one or more cycloaliphatic diamines from said product mixture.

A microtensiometer is provided that includes a substrate layer having an enclosed reservoir formed therein. A porous membrane is disposed on a surface of the substrate layer. The membrane includes a liquid side fluidly coupled to the reservoir and a vapor side fluidly coupled to a vapor interface. The porous membrane includes a plurality of through holes fluidly coupling the liquid reservoir to the vapor interface, and a nanoporous filler material disposed within the plurality of through holes. The filler material includes a plurality of open pores having a maximum diameter in the range of 0.2 to 200 nanometers. In one embodiment, the microtensiometer includes a molecular membrane disposed adjacent to the vapor side of the porous membrane. In one example, the molecular membrane is a highly crystalline polytetrafluoroethylene polymer having a microstructure characterized by nodes interconnected by fibrils. In one application, the microtensiometer may be used to measure the average water potential within a network of plant or tree xylem. In another application, the microtensiometer may be useful in real-time determination of the water potential in soil.

The housings may be separable or may be integrally formed. The trimmer assembly includes a motor (40) operably connected to a moving toothed blade (60). A second toothed blade (50) is removably mounted to the housing of the trimmer. One end of the leaf spring (90) is disposed in a suitably sized recess (18) of the trimmer housing and the opposed second end bears against a driver (80) of the moving blade to maintain sliding contact between the toothed portions of the two blades during operation. When a user removes the second toothed blade, the moving blade may be separately removed while the leaf spring is retained in its recess. Both housings have a width less than 25mm and the grooming tool is ergonomically familiar to a typical safety razor user.

The process for conversion of aliphatic cyclic amines to aliphatic diamines comprises the steps of: (1) selecting one or more cyclic amines; (2) contacting said one or more cyclic amines with ammonia and hydrogen, optionally water, and optionally one or more solvents in the presence of one or more heterogeneous metal based catalyst systems at a temperature in the range of from 120° C to about 250° C and a pressure in the range of from 700 to 3500 psig for a period in the range of at least one hour or more in one or more reactor systems; (3) forming a product mixture comprising one or more aliphatic diamine, optionally a portion of said one or more cyclic amines, optionally a portion of said ammonia, optionally a portion of said hydrogen, optionally water, and optionally a portion of said one or more solvents; (4) removing said product mixture from the reactor system; (5) removing at least a portion of said portion of ammonia, said portion of hydrogen, or mixture thereof from said product mixture via distillation; (6) removing at least a portion of said portion of water via distillation; (7) removing at least a portion of said portion of one or more optional solvents via distillation; (8) removing at least a portion of said portion of one or more cyclic amines; (9) thereby separating said one or more aliphatic diamines from said product mixture; and (10) thereby converting said one or more cyclic amines to one or more aliphatic diamines.

A molding system includes apparatus for moving a flask from one portion of a mold car conveyor and for transferring it across the mold car conveyor loop and for depositing the mold at another portion of the mold car conveyor. The apparatus comprises a first structure for picking up the flask from the one portion of the mold car conveyor, a flask and mold feeder movable transverse of the mold car conveyor, and a second structure for picking up a mold from the flask and mold feeder at a mold removal station, and for moving the mold to the other portion of the mold car conveyor. A single fluid cylinder is provided for effecting the movement of the flask and mold feeder, as well as the first and second structures. A linkage means interconnects the single fluid motor with the first and second structures and the flask and mold feeder to effect these various movements. In addition, the flask and mold feeder comprises a frame and roll-over mechanism is supported in the frame for effecting rolling over of the mold during movement of the flask and mold feeder. This roll-over movement is effected by a linkage which operates in response to reciprocating movement of the frame to effect the roll-over action. Further, the system includes a punch-out mechanism where the sand cake is maintained in a substantially horizontal plane and the cope and drag flasks are moved vertically to strip the sand cake from the flasks. After that vertical movement a suitable pusher member and brush move across the mold car on which the flasks have been supported to move the sand cake therefrom.
