A dispensing pump for application to a product container includes an elongated housing having a recess in a sidewall thereof and a flexible bulbous diaphragm seated over the recess for a trigger-type actuation as the housing is gripped in the manner of a handle. A variable volume pump chamber is defined by the diaphragm together with the recess, and an inlet passage is provided in the housing through which the product passes from the container into the recess. The diaphragm has an annular inner skirt for closing the inlet passage in response to axial deformation of the diaphragm, as well as intermediate and outer annular skirts. The intermediate skirt has a lower free edge portion normally covering a discharge port in the housing which communicates with the pump housing, and the outer skirt has a lower free edge portion normally covering a vent port in the housing which communicates with the atmosphere. The lower edge portions of the intermediate and outer skirts are of resilient flexible materials so as to respectively uncover the discharge and vent ports in response to a given fluid pressure therewithin. Accordingly, the inlet passage is closed upon depression of the diaphragm and the discharge passage is simultaneously uncovered to permit the contents of the diaphragm to be discharged. Upon release of the diaphragm the vacuum pressure thereby created effects a closing of the discharge passage and an opening of the inlet passage for refilling of the pump chamber. As the dispensable product is withdrawn from the container, the vacuum pressure therein created effects an opening of the vent passage and permits air to flow into the container.

A plurality of surface projections protrude from the outer surface of the dip tube and extend longitudinally along the dip tube. The plurality of surface projections are uniformly disposed about the dip tube for defining a plurality of recessed portions therebetween. The plurality of surface projections define major wall thickness portions for providing structural strength for the dip tube. The improved dip tube provides a conventional cross-section area of the internal channel with a reduced volume of material used in the construction of the improved dip tube.

Currently, relatively weak light sources with low light intensities are used in wide-field microscopes. Inevitably, focusing in the pupil plane thereby results in low light intensities in the sample, since the output of the light source is distributed over a very large sample area. However, there are also wide-field technologies requiring very high intensities, for example, photo-activated localization (PAL) microscopy. It is the object of the invention to allow, with little expenditure, the flexible adjustment of the illumination light intensity in the sample. For this purpose, a laser (2) is used for a light source, and a variable lens (10) is arranged in the illumination beam path thus making a variable adjustment of a beam cross section of the illumination light in an intermediate image plane possible, wherein a divergence of the illumination light is identical for different beam cross sections. In this way, the size of the visual field of the microscope can be flexibly adjusted. Thus, the intensity of the laser illumination light in the sample (5) can be varied in a wide range of values.

The valve stem has a valve stem sealing base for movement within an internal body cavity of the valve body to seal the valve stem when the vase engages the sealing gasket and for enabling fluid flow when the base is displaced from the sealing gasket. The invention incorporates a plurality of resilient legs extending from the valve stem base for co-operation with an inclined surface either being a tapered or curved surface extending within the valve body to bias the stem sealer into engagement with the sealing gasket.
