Novel naphthylsulfonic acids and related compounds as glucose uptake agonists

Methods for treating conditions associated with hyperglycemia, especially Type II diabetes, with novel naphthyl-sulfonic acids and related compounds are provided. Compounds of formula (1) where: R1 and R2 are, independently, hydrogen, alkyl, substituted alkyl, aryl, substituted aryl, R3 is a substituent on the B ring; and is -SO2OR6, -C(O)OR6, -SO2NR62-C(O)NR62 or tetrazolyl; the linker -WY- between the naphthyl and phenyl intersects the A ring of the naphthyl and is, independently, -C(O)NR7-, -NR7C(O)-, -C(O)O-, -OC(O)-, -CH=CH-, -NR7CH2-, -CH2NR7-, -NR7C(O)NR7- -NR7C(O)O-, -OC(O)NR7-, -NR7SO2O-, -OSO2NR7-, -OC(O)O-, -SO2NR7-, -NR7SO2-, -OSO2-, or -SO20-; each R6 and R7 is, independently, hydrogen or lower alkyl; optionally in the form of single stereoisomers or mixtures of stereoisomers, or the pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof; are useful in methods of stimulating the kinase activity of the insulin receptor, enhancing the activation of the insulin receptor by insulin, and stimulating the uptake of glucose into cells. A variety of antidiabetic compounds and pharmaceutical compositions comprising the antidiabetic compounds are also disclosed.

System and method of generating associations

A method for automatically generating associations of items included in a database. A user first specifies a support criteria indicating a strength of desired associations of items contained in the said database. Then, a recursive program is executed for generating a hierarchical tree structure comprising one or more levels of database itemsets, with each itemset representing item associations determined to have satisfied the specified support criteria. The recursive program includes steps of: characterizing nodes of the tree structure as being either active and enabling generation of new nodes at a new level of the tree, or inactive, at any given time; enabling traversal of the tree structure in a predetermined manner and projecting each of the transactions included in the database onto currently active nodes of the tree structure to generate projected transaction results; and, counting the projected transaction results of the projected transactions at the active nodes to determine whether the further itemsets satisfy the specified support criteria. All itemsets meeting the specified support criteria are added to the tree structure at a new level.

La presente invención de refiere a un método para la detección del número de puertas abiertas de un ascensor. El método es de aplicación en la seguridad del ascensor, en concreto en la prevención de accesos no autorizados al hueco del ascensor. De forma más concreta, el método propuesto está basado en la inyección de una señal periódica en la línea de seguridad del ascensor, por la que circula una corriente que se verá interrumpida al abrir una puerta. Adicionalmente, mediante una circuitería adecuada, se inducirá un desfase a la señal cada vez que se abra una puerta, utilizándose dicho desfase para monitorizar el número de puertas abiertas en un instante determinado. Es asimismo objeto de la invención el circuito con el que llevar a cabo el procedimiento de detección de apertura de puertas.
