The present invention provides an apparatus and method for pre-registering boards for use in, for example, the manufacture of looseleaf binders and packaging products. Boards are dropped onto the base plate by an automatic process. Spine guides enable the spine portion of the boards to be secured for subsequent registering. The movement of the spine guides allows the spine portion of the boards to be placed accurately. The spine guides are attached to a spine guide rack which is located on the underside of the base plate. The spine guide rack operates through the use of pneumatic cylinders and enables the movement of the attached spine guides. The spine guides move along a spine guide trench and secure boards on the base plate. The spine guides are retracted when the boards are initially placed on the base plate and then start moving medially to squeeze the spine portion of the board such that it becomes perpendicular to the x-axis. The spine guides also allow for the requisite spacing in between the spine panel and the front and back board panels. This securing apparatus which includes, among other things, the movable guide bars and spine guides, enables the placement of boards and the subsequent binding process to be within desired tolerances. Once the spine guides have set the spine portion of the boards, movable guide bars begin pushing the front and back panels medially towards the y-axis. The movable guide bars will cease movement when the medial edge of the board panel comes into contact with the lateral edge of the spine guides. At this point, the movable guide bars-fixed perpendicular to the x-axis-will correct the panel positions such that the medial panel edges will achieve substantial perpendicularity with the x-axis.

A viewer transmitter device includes a keyboard for receiving viewer entered selections and a remote trans-mitter which transmits infrared, ultrasonic, radio frequency or other radiated control signals for each of the viewer selections. A receiver device in a channel detection system receives a signal in the selected transmission medium, and immediately signals a jamming device to broadcast interference which pre-cludes the remotely controlled receiver from identifying and acting upon the transmitted control signal. The receiver device applies the received signal to a processor device that performs a stored program to determine if the received signal corresponds to a transmitted control signal from the viewer transmitter device and, if so, to identify the channel to which the monitored receiver is to be tuned. An associated memory device is used for storing the identified channel reception data. The processor device identifies the user selection and either applies a corresponding control signal to a second transmitter device which transmits a control signal of sufficient strength to overcome the inter-ference, or instructs the jamming device to cease the broadcasting of interfering signals. In either case, the remotely controlled receiver will now receive and implement the viewer selection. The processor device will periodically broadcast a command to the remotely controlled receiver containing the last identified channel data to ensure that a viewer does not manually adjust the channel being viewed.

Herbicidal cycloalkyl-substituted thiadiazolyloxyacetamides of the formula ##STR1## in which R 1 represents hydrogen, or represents an optionally substituted radical selected from the group consisting of alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl and aralkyl, R 2 represents an optionally substituted radical selected from the group consisting of alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkenyl, aralkyl, aryl, alkoxy, alkenyloxy and alkynyloxy, or R 1 and R 2 , together with the nitrogen atom to which they are bonded, form an optionally substituted saturated or unsaturated nitrogen-heterocyclic radical, which can contain further hetero atoms and to which a benzo grouping can be fused, and R 3 represents optionally substituted cycloalkyl. Intermediates of the formula ##STR2## are also new.

A threaded pipe element (16) is welded to the holding body, and carries on its end face a closure cap (17). By means of an axially extending groove (20) which is recessed in the outer surface of the threaded pipe element (16) and dimensioned to be longer than the outer thread serving to screw on the closure cap (17), a negligible emergence of liquid is allowed by a slight loosening of the closure gap (17) if the glass is broken, this indicating the defective sight-glass (2). <IMAGE>

An embossed seal is formed in a cavity in the neck of a corked bottle over a cork using a die having a die surface with a die image. A first molten seal material is introduced into a die cavity. The die cavity is formed in part with the die surface. The introduction of the first molten seal material deposits an embossed seal portion with an embossed surface. The embossed seal portion is allowed to cool. A second molten seal material is introduced into the cavity of the neck of the corked bottle. The embossed seal portion is brought into contact with the molten seal material in the bottle cavity with the embossed surface disposed on top facing away from the molten seal material. The molten seal material partially melts the embossed seal portion to form a single seal upon cooling. The embossed seal portion is sufficiently cooled and solidified to prevent melting and damage of the embossed surface. An automated apparatus is provided for carrying out the two-stage procedure of forming the seal to produce high quality embossed seals at an economically desirable rate. A die truck assembly is used to form the embossed seal portion. The assembly includes three springs to provide a triple telescoping action that allows the assembly to be engaged with the bottle necks and maintains the engagement along a specific travel path to form the seal to seal the bottle. The triple telescoping action also releases the embossed seal portion from the die cavity of the die truck assembly into the molten seal material in the cavity over the cork in the bottle neck. It further allows the die truck assembly easily to self-adjust and compensate for varying bottle heights and varying cork heights so as to exert a generally consistent pressure on the embossed seal portion and molten seal material to form the finished seal.
