A horseshoe () comprising a relatively rigid insert () operatively connected to a sole (), the relatively rigid () insert typically being made of metal and being generally U-shaped with a front, central portion and a pair of spaced-apart branches extending from opposite ends of the central portion. The sole (), in certain embodiments, is overmoulded onto the insert () and forms a “frog” for protecting the sole of a hoof and through which loads can be transmitted to a walking surface. The sole () comprises central portion having a generally W-shaped lateral cross-section () comprising an apex () and a valley () interposed between the apex () and each of the branches. Thus, when a load () is applied to the sole () of the shoe () from above, the apex () of the W-cross-sectioned portion () of the sole () is depressed, and this deflection spreads the sole () such that it exerts a radially outward force onto the branches of the metal insert (), thus widening the shoe (). This expansion corresponds substantially to the natural expansion of an un-shod hoof under load. The shoe () may additionally have a crease () comprising a plurality of radially inwardly and radially outwardly displaced notches for positioning nail heads at different radial and circumferential positions. A horseshoe that has vertical metallic retaining-clips to deter dislodging of the horseshoe after installation uses a safety feature: a protective safety cap to cover the open end of each retaining-clip. The safety cap comprises a sheath that is tightly fastened to the corresponding retaining clip. The safety cap has an extended inside axial length that is longer than the vertical height of its corresponding retaining-clip whereby, if a dislodged or uninstalled horseshoe having the retaining-clips is stepped on by a horse-hoof, the extended axial length of the cap folds on itself and prevents the vertical retaining-clip from causing a penetrating injury to the hoof-underside. The safety cap could be closed at its top or open fully/partly and comprises plastic material that is flexible but tough. Preferably the safety cap is fastened to the corresponding retaining clip by riveting. Alternatively, the safety cap may be glued to the retaining clip. 1. Horseshoe with splaying, and stabilizer feature

Номер: US20140374124A1
Автор: Murali Mahidhara
Принадлежит: Individual

A horseshoe with a stabilizer-feature and splaying has a U shaped metallic unitary body with left-right wings and an integral compliant leaf-spring disposed proximate to or in the horseshoe toe area. The leaf-spring may be crescent-shaped or chord-shaped and resiliently deforms upwards, exerting sideways-pressure causing splaying of the left-right wings. The leaf-spring may have a groove on either side to assist preparation before horseshoe installation. The crescent-shaped leaf-spring forms a cavity with the hoof underside in use, which cavity is optionally filled with a resilient material, e.g., silicone, obviating accumulation of dirt/debris. Stabilizers comprising a plurality of rows of beads formed integrally with the horseshoe bottom form a negative camber on the horseshoe-underside. The stabilizer rows may be staggered and assist in the stability of the horse during racing, especially at track-curves. The horseshoe may be cast/forged, blanked, or welded and can be mass-produced. Preferably, the horseshoe comprises hardened spring steel.

HORSE HOOF PAD-LIKE SUPPORT DEVICE

Номер: US20180360017A1
Автор: Lundqvist EriK
Принадлежит:

A pad-like support device's springy (dampening, elastic) function allows a horse hoof during impact to function similar to a hoofs function during impact when the horse is unshod. A further advantage is that the risk of pressing in is essentially eliminated. A further advantage of the present invention is that the flexible zones reduce the pull on the shoe and the seam (nails) when rocks and uneven ground press the middle part in the upward direction. A still further advantage is that an effective dampening of the frog's ground impact is achieved thereby reducing the load (stress) on the horse's hoof, ligaments and joints. It is a further advantage of the present invention that it improves circulation. Because the frog's support essentially follows the frog's every movement, friction (abrasion) occurring between the pad and the frog on existing pads is minimized. 1. A pad-like support device intended to be attached between a horse's hoof and a horseshoe comprised of:at least one first side part,at least one second side part,at least one middle part, and a support section for the frog, and at least one first zone the first zone located between and joining the first side part to both the middle part and the support section, and at least one second zone extending essentially along the pad-like support device's longitudinal direction, the second zone located between and joining the second side part to both the middle part and the support section, the first zone and second zone together configured to allow the support section and the middle part to be flexibly arranged in the horizontal and vertical directions relative to the first side part and the second side part, the first side part and the second side part include at least one first material layer constituting a surface layer on the topside of the side parts, and at least one second material layer constituting a surface layer on the bottom side of the side parts and at least one intermediate material layer positioned ...

A thin layer (1.5-12mm thick) of an elastic adhesive, comprising a copolymer of a conjugated diene, a vinyl monomer and an ethylenically unsatd, monocarboxylic acid is applied, to the horse's hoof and then the horseshoe is applied. This technique has two advantages, namely no nails are used and therefore the horses' hooves are not split and secondly, this layer acts as a shock absorber thus preventing shock of impact weakening the horse's leg. Furthermore no lateral sliding of the horseshoe occurs with this adhesive.

Two=part horseshoes of polyurethane rubber - for lightweight, wear resistant, non-skid protection

Horseshoes are made from two complementary plastics mouldings so that one moulding can be nailed beneath the perimeter of the hoof, like a conventional metal shoe, but incorporates an integral bar across the trailing end of the shoe, and a second moulding can be fitted to cover the middle of the hoof. The second moulding is secured by undercut tenons and/or by overlapping joints coupled by screws. Pref. both mouldings are of a hard (65 Shore) polyurethane rubber, assembled so that the face of the central cover is flush with that of the surrounding shoe, and both mouldings feature ribs or grooves parallel and transverse to the axis of the hoof. Lighter than iron shoes, more wear resistant than aluminium alloy shoes, offer better grip on hard dry surfaces, e.g. roads. The central cover can be removed and cleaned or replaced without requiring skilled labour or special tools. Pref. the interface between the shoe and the cover is bevelled so that assembly is self-centring.
