The tobacco leaf is laid over two or more contoured knives and cut by means of rollers (7) sliding above the latter. Subsequently, the punched-out tobacco leaf sections are lifted out of the contoured knives, placed on a support and scanned by light in order to identify the contours, the rib structure and any damaged points. These data are compared with target data, whereupon the sections corresponding to the target data are removed. The method comprises: during a runtime scan of a mask of a semiconductor specimen, processing a plurality of aerial images of the mask acquired by the mask inspection system to calculate a statistic-based Edge Positioning Displacement (EPD) of a potential defect, wherein the statistic-based EPD is calculated using a Print Threshold (PT) characterizing the mask and is applied to each of the one or more acquired aerial images to calculate respective EPD of the potential defect therein; and filtering the potential defect as a “runtime true” defect when the calculated statistic-based EPD exceeds a predefined EPD threshold, and filtering out the potential defect as a “false” defect when the calculated statistic-based EPD is lower than the predefined EPD threshold. The method can further comprise after-runtime EPD-based filtering of the plurality of “runtime true” defects. 1. Pose estimation generally refers to a computer vision technique that determines the pose of some object, usually with respect to a particular camera. Pose estimation has many applications, but is particularly useful in the context of robotic manipulation systems. To date, robotic manipulation systems have required a camera to be installed on the robot itself (i.e. a camera-in-hand) for capturing images of the object and/or a camera external to the robot for capturing images of the object. Unfortunately, the camera-in-hand has a limited field of view for capturing objects, whereas the external camera, which may have a greater field of view, requires costly calibration each time the camera is even slightly moved. Similar issues apply when estimating the pose of any object with respect to another object (i.e. which may be moving or not). For making cigars, small portions of tobacco leaf (C) are detached from a backing layer (3) as it is unwound from a roll (1). These pieces are then removed by a feed which applies them to the outside of a cigar being manufactured. The pieces are secured to the coiled backing layer by adhesive, and the feed overcomes the strength of the adhesive to detach them. The roll is rotated against two freely rotating suction wheels (4,5) with a small suction chamber (6) between. These are positioned so that their pressure against the strip is sufficient to lift the leaf portions and detach them. They are then conveyed onwards horizontally above a suction conveyor (8).

The machine automatically cuts out a section from a tobacco leaf to form a covering. Optical devices scan a blade to find an area free from holes, which is turned up and cut out to produce the covering. A T.V. camera with detector frames can be used, a number of lines parallel to the leaf stem being detected in each frame and the resulting video signal being compared with a datum signal. Two binary signals are generated, dependent on whether the datum signal is the greater or lesser. This is used in a logic system to produce a signal giving the position of holes along the lines.

The system moistens portions of tobacco leaf stored between the turns of a coil and/or aids their detachment from the supporting strip forming the coil. A moistening agent is applied continuously to the outer face of the coil (1) as it is unwound. There can be a water tank (8) in which a transfer roller is partly immersed, while a moistening roller (10) is in contact with the transfer roller (9). The moistening roller is held permanently against the coil during unwinding, typically a mechanism holding the roller against the coil at constant pressure.

The present invention discloses devices and methods for simultaneously viewing and reading a top image and a bottom image from a workpiece. The light source assembly may also preferably utilize a non-coaxial light path for dark field illumination. In one embodiment, the simultaneous images arriving at the camera are separated into two distinct images on two different sections of the camera. In another embodiment, the simultaneous images arriving at the camera are superimposed with one image on the camera.

An apparatus and procedure for locating three-dimensional bulk-loaded objects for purposes of controlling a gripping terminal, including at least one optical projection system associated with drive mechanisms commanded by an interface connected to a central processing unit, and a light sensor such as a TV camera mounted plumb with the surface (horizontal, for example) receiving the bulk load and connected to the analysis and processing mechanisms of the central processing unit. The optical system emits a substantially planar light bundle which sweeps the surface of the bulk load under the control of the drive mechanisms to vary incrementally the angle θ made by the bundle with respect the aforementioned surface. The value of the angle, measured by a coder, is transmitted to the central processing unit which analyzes the image of the bundle trace sensed by the camera. The central processing unit selects the point whose value corresponds to a predetermined condition, such as the highest point on the surface of the bulk load. The invention finds application in automatic high-speed unloading by an industrial robot of a crate filled with three-dimensional objects loaded in bulk.

The signals of each line, after a delay, are superimposed and the composite signal checked to ascertain if one or more hole free parallelograms of at least one given size can be cut from the leaf. After scanning the leaf is conveyed to another location and cut.

A METHOD FOR AUTOMATIC FIELD WIDTH EXPANSION IN A TEXT PROCESSING SYSTEM DURING INTERACTIVE ENTRY OF DISPLAYED RECORD SELECTION CRITERIA Abstract An improved method is disclosed for entering field dependent record selection criteria into an inter-active text processing system which also processes spatially related data that is stored in the system in vector formatted records. In the process of identify-ing stored records which meet certain criteria, a qualifying frame is displayed consisting of a header row and, for example, three qualifying rows. The header row includes the field names and the qualifying rows are blank, except for the vertical lines depict-ing field boundaries. Selection criteria are entered into the system by positioning the cursor to the appropriate row/ column intersection and entering the selection data for that field. Criteria entered in different fields in one row represent a "logical AND" selection, while criteria in different rows represent a "logical OR" situation. The improvement involves the automatic expansion of the field boundaries of the selected field in both the header row and qualifying rows when more space is required to enter, for example, lengthy qualifiers into the field, a number of qualifiers which are ORed together, or different spellings of the same qualifier. The expansion results automatically in accordance with the relationship of the end of da a position to the right field boundary marker position to move repeti-tively the marker a fixed number of character posi-tions, for example, five, towards the right edge of the display, and, when additional space is required, to shift repetitively the field name and entered data to the left five character positions -- therefore, providing an additional five character positions at the right edge of the field after each shift.
