A roughing system includes a roughing machine and an imaging apparatus. The roughing machine roughs an upper of a shoe along a path to form a rough trace thereon. The imaging apparatus includes a camera module and a processing module. The camera module is moved parallel to the path and repeatedly captures an image of a portion of the upper having a segment of the rough trace thereon each time when one of a first condition that the camera module has been moved by a predetermined length and a second condition that the camera module has been moved for a predetermined time duration is satisfied. The processing module receives the images respectively of different portions of the upper that are sequentially captured by the camera module, and is configured to generate a panoramic image based on the images. 1. A roughing system comprising:a roughing machine configured to rough an upper of a shoe along a path so as to form a rough trace on the upper; and a camera module configured to be moved parallel to the path and to capture an image of a portion of the upper having a segment of the rough trace thereon each time when one of a first condition that said camera module has been moved by a predetermined length and a second condition that said camera module has been moved for a predetermined time duration is satisfied; and', 'a processing module electrically connected to said camera module for receiving the images respectively of different portions of the upper that are sequentially captured by said camera module, and configured to generate a panoramic image based on the images., 'an imaging apparatus including'}2. The arrangement has devices which first exert a relatively weak closing force on the claw components such that these come into the gripping position. On relative movement between the strips and the gripper, the pinching edge moves between the claws. Detector devices belong to the claws and on increase in the claw closing force they are so firmly moved together that the edge of the upper is firmly gripped when a given part of the edge is between the claws. The detector devices contain light delivery devices to deliver a light beam from one claw to the other and light determining devices to evaluate the light passage through the claws. The arrangement is such that the light beam is cut off in the case that the pinching edge is in a section exceeding a given value between the claws while the light passes between the claws when the pinching edge between the claws does not exceed a given value.

941,309. Shoe upper conforming machines. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO Ltd., and G. C. BARTON. March 1, 1960 [March 2, 1959], No. 7088/59. Heading A3B. In a shoe upper conforming machine, having work-supporting means, a plurality of grippers, toe wipers, and ball-grippers and wipers, clamping members are provided to engage the upper at opposite sides of the share prior to the grippers releasing their hold for the over-wiping operation. The clamping members comprise, at each side of the last, a pair of clamps 8, 9 mounted on arms 11, 12 and moved by fluid pressure operated means. Arms 11 and 12 are connected to a cylinder member 18 slidable along a piston rod 20, which is integral with support bracket 6. Fluid pressure urges cylinder 18 along rod 20 to carry clamps 8, 9 into engagement with the upper. Fluid passes through an axial bore 22 into an extended bore portion of member 18 and through part 30 into enlarged bore portion 32. Clamp arms 11 and 12 are connected to cylinder 18 by pairs of parallel links 36 and 38 to enable clamps 8 and 9 to engage varying contours of lasts. Faces 39 on cylinder 18 limit the movement of links 36, 38. Clamp 9 is mounted for arcuate movement lengthwise of a shoe and has an arcuate face 42 which abuts an arcuate face in arm 12. Clamp 8 is mounted for rotatable adjustment about the axis of rod 20, a pinion 44, integral with collar 34, meshing with a worm rotatable by an adjusting knob 50. A pin 52, carried by cylinder 18, engages slot 54 in collar 34 to rotate cylinder 18 when knob 50 is rotated. Upward movement of ballwipers-support arm 70 about a shaft 3 causes upward movement of the clamping members, through the engagement of a pin 72 with a slot 74 in a link 76. The other end of link 76 is attached to the eccentric stem of an adjusting screw 78 which gives heightwise adjustment of the clamping members relative to the ball wipers and the shoe. [Published under Section 91 of the Act.] [Addition to 3586/09.] Lasting.-Relates to the method of lasting described in Specification 18,848/07. The " outer sewing " with which the edges of the upper is treated prior to lasting is replaced, according to one form, by a series of " dog " pincers " distributed around the upper. According to another arrangement, this sewing is retained, and the lasting-cable is attached to the sewing by a series of hooks. The " dog " pincers " are shown in Fig. 38, and comprise a clamp carrying a hook 171 with which the lasting-cable is engaged. Fig. 39 shows the double hook used in the alternative method. The last-support is modified as follows. Each vertically-movable member 26 carries a plate 155, in which slide a number of members 157, the outer ends of which are squared to form " pushers "; in another arrangement, these ends carry rollers 169 to guide the lasting-cable along the contour of the last. Each of the pushers is pressed towards the last by a spring, encirling a rod 161 projecting from the plate 155, and arranged between this plate and a lug on the underside of the " pusher " 157. A lever 164, pivoted to the plate 155, and, as described, pulled downwards by a spring, carries a number of blades 166, which engage racks on the upper faces of the " pushers " to hold them in position. By means of a screw and hand-wheel 31, the plate 155 and its attached parts may be urged towards the last. The metallic lasting- cable 52 is strained by means of a screw and hand-wheel 168 supported by a bracket 167 carried by the members 26. In place of the plate 155 and its associated parts, the members 26 may each carry two rollers, around which the lasting cable is passed.

4058. Bates, A., and British United Shoe Machinery Co. Feb. 17. Boot-sole sewing and lasting machines.-The uppers of veldtschoen &c. are lasted and simultaneously permanently stitched to the soles. The upper and the sole, assembled on the last, are brought up to a work-support F, which presses the upper into the angle between the sole a and the last c. A welt strip d is fed into position over the out-turned edge of the upper through a guide-passage in the work-support. The upper is gripped and pulled by grippers G, G', and while the upper is held under tension, an awl C moves to penetrate the welt, the upper, and the margin of the sole. The work, grippers, and awl are then moved by the travel of a feed-slide H into a position for the work to be operated upon by the stitching-mechanism. A presser L clamps the work to the work-support until the feed slide is operated; but the clamping pressure may be released in part or altogether during the pulling operation. After the work has been fed by the slide, the presser L descends again, and holds the work until the stitch is made, the grippers, awl, and feed slide returning to their original positions. The upper may be released from the grippers before the completion of the feed movement. The lower jaw G<1> of the grippers is formed on a bar G<2> supported at one end by a vertical link G<3> pivoted at its lower end to the feed-slide H. The bar G<2> and the link G<3> are connected by pivoted ears G<30> provided with a stem rotatable in a bore in the link. The other end of the bar G<2> is supported by a lever J pivoted to the frame of the machine and connected to the bar G<2> by a universal joint. The upper end of the lever J is connected through an adjustable and yielding connexion with a camactuated member K<1>. Abstract Shoe Support A shoe support comprises toe support means (34) and heel support means (30), the toe support means being mounted for adjusting movement relative to the heel support means in directions extending lengthwise, widthwise and heigthwise of the bottom of a shoe supported by the shoe support. The heel support means (30) comprises a last pin (32') mounted for limited rocking movement abut an axis (412) extending lengthwise of the shoe bottom, the last pin being supported on a support member (420) which is angularly displaceable on a support rod (28), the arrangement being such that the rocking axis (412) of the last pin (32') can be adjusted angularly on the support rod, thus to locate said axis (412) substantially in the heel-to-toe plane of the shoe, as determined by the position of the toe support means (34). In this way, the shoe is supported in a more stable manner for operations to be performed thereon, e.g. a heel seat lasting operation.

The heel support is in contact with the inside surface of the shoe when it is turned upside down for heel attaching by a vertically acting tool. The machine senses the distance between the toe and the heel for correct adjustment of the support system by photoelectric cells supported by the toe supporting column. The light bram of these photoelectric system arrangements are directed at 90 deg. to the plane which contains the centreline of the heel supporting column and the toe supporting column. Light signals are fed into a discriminator for evaluating and generating a signal for adjusting the shoe toe tip support. This arrangement does not require a great deal of attention on operation. Shoes of any size can be passed through this seam without regard to their size.

A combined heel end assembling, backpart moulding and heel seat lasting machine comprises a shoe support (10) for supporting a shoe, bottom uppermost. For gripping and tensioning the shoe upper on its last prior to the combined operation taking place, two grippers (88) are provided with each of which is associated a reaction lever/presser member (78), the latter serving to hold the last in position while the grippers tension the upper heightwise. Thereafter, the grippers are moved lengthwise of the shoe to tension the upper about the heel end of the last. The machine also comprises a heel band (14) for backpart moulding and wipers (122) for lasting the heel seat region of the shoe, adhesive applying means (146) being provided for applying adhesive in the heel seat prior to lasting. A plurality of positional adjustments within the shoe support (10) is provided.

7481. Justice, P. M., [Plant, T. G.]. March 29. Treeing.-A rumber of rotatable and expansible trees are mounted upon a turret, and the trees and turret are interlocked in a manner to be described. The trees are jacked and unjacked by a single lever, Each tree is rotated on its own axis by means of a hand-wheel 95, Fig. 2, and comprises a leg-front portion 126, a detachable back 160 hinged to the front portion 126. upon a spring bracket 163, and a foot-piece. The foot-piece comprises a member 130, mounted for longitudinal movement relative to the front portion, and an interchangeable sole plate 146 arranged on an interchangeable support 143, which is socketed in a support fixed to a foot-slide 127. The member 130 carries a bridge-piece 131, and is actuated by a jacking-slide 49, which carries a projection 140 extending through the foot slide. The member 130. in its initial movement towards the leg-front portion 126, carries with it, by reason of a latch 134, the foot-slide and the sole plate. As soon as the latch 134 is depressed by engagement with the leg-front portion, the foot-slide becomes dependent on the boot for its movement. Its rear end 154 then meets an adjustable spring stop 153, and the sole plate 146 and the member 130 of the foot-piece move apart to stretch the boot to an extent depending on the adjustment of the spring 156. At the same time, a projection 181, on the underside of the jacking-slide, actuates a heelslide 177, to which is linked, through a spring connexion, a bell-crank lever 170, the free end of which slides in a guide in the heel member 160, causing the latter to pivot about the bracket 163 to expand the heel. The tree is locked, when expanded, by a latch plate 97 at its rear end engaging a notch in the jacking-slide. An upper-stretching device 188 is carried by the foot-slide. A side (or heel seat and side) lasting machine comprises two lasting rollers (232; 232′) arranged one at either side of a shoe support (20) by which a shoe is supported bottom up. Each roller (232; 232′) has a helical rib arrangement (294) which, when rotated while in pressing engagement with the shoe bottom, effects an inwiping movement on the lasting marginal portions of the shoe upper. The rollers (232; 232′) are inclined to the longitudinal centre line of the shoe support, with their free ends directed heelwardly; the acute angle subtended between each centre line and the roller axis of rotation is in the order of 50 to 62°, preferably 57°. The lasting rollers (232; 232′) are of non-metallic material, preferably synthetic polymer or ceramic material, and have a single helical rib the pitch of which is in the range of 10 to 15 mm.
