Methods of manufacturing a gravity-powered, self-opening, and wind-resistant umbrella systems are provided. As evidenced from the teachings provided herein, the systems can be designed in a variety of configurations. The umbrella system can include a counterweight and system of pulleys, where the system of pulleys includes class 1 and class 2 pulleys configured with the counterweight to gain a mechanical advantage in the normal operation of the umbrella. The umbrella can be, for example, a patio umbrella in which the mechanical advantage provides a self-opening of an umbrella canopy and ease-of-retracting of the canopy for a user. And, the system can also be dynamic, such that it's also resistant to external forces, such as the wind.

A lightweight, flexible, portable bag which can be filled with beach sand, rocks, dirt or other loose material is connected to the upper part of the pole of a beach umbrella by a long flexible cord. The lower portion of the cord is secured to the open end of the nylon bag. The upper end of the cord is connected to the upper end of the pole of the umbrella by a hook-and-loop type fastener strap which wraps around the umbrella pole. The lower end of the cord is fitted within a hem in the opening of the bag to form a drawstring for closure of the bag to retain the sand or loose material in the bag during use. One end of the cord is formed into a loop with the long end of the cord passing through the loop and connected to the umbrella pole. Tension on the cord during use will cinch the drawstring closed thus retaining the material within the bag. The weight of the bag connected to the upper part of the pole will stabilize the umbrella in light to moderate winds. Prior to filling, the bag has minimal weight so as to be easily transported.

A folding umbrella and particularly one having multiple folds, is comprised of a support frame incorporating a hybrid rib typically located intermediate a main rib and a rear or outermost rib. The hybrid rib is formed of multiple sections composed of first and second materials which respectively provide the desired structural strength to reduce inversions of the umbrella to an acceptable minimum and provide the hybrid rib with the desired resiliency and flexibility to return the hybrid rib to its original, unstressed shape and thereby prevent permanent damage to the hybrid rib as well as adjoining frame elements of the umbrella. The thicknesses of the multiple sections and the relative sizes of the sections also significantly contribute to the capability of the hybrid rib to achieve the desired objectives of a compact, small, folding umbrella of reduced weight, and the ability to prevent permanent damage to the frame due to inversion.

This invention relates to a type of sunshade that has the distinctive feature of allowing sunlight and heat to pass, but prevents the passage of ultraviolet rays. The device, of conventional configuration, has a film consisting of three layers. Each layer consists of copolymers. Additives are added to these layers to absorb and stabilize ultraviolet rays. The invention allows the user, at the beach for example, to sunbathe and feel its warmth, while being protected from the damaging effects of ultraviolet rays. 1. A parasol translucent to sunlight while filtering out ultraviolet rays , comprising:three layers of copolymers joined by co-extruding the copolymers in one film, the three layers having a transparency of greater than ninety percent;the three layers comprising a first layer and a third layer as opposing exterior layers, the opposing exterior layers made of polyethylene;the three layers further comprising a second, intermediary layer made of an ethyl vinyl acetate copolymer having 18% vinyl acetate, and allowing less than one percent of ultraviolet rays to pass through the intermediate layer; andthe three layers further comprising additives of amines sterically blocked and benzophenone, the amines sterically blocked having an ultraviolet protection rating of greater than eighty according to the European standard ultraviolet index.2. I thought it would benefit both pedestrains and drivers if the umbrellas being used were more visible. A quick reveals that 4,735 people were killed in pedestrian/motor vehicle crashes in 2013.Umbrellas made more visible with reflective parts, would save lives!N/AThe umbrella has long been used for weather protection. From rain, snow, and sun. And while being used for those purposes, could give added protection, for pedestrians as motorists visibility is decreased by weather of those types. The American National Standards Institute published standards for high visibility clothing in 1999, to protect workers from motor vehicles and heavy equipment. The International Safety Equipment Association developed a standard with a revision in 2004, and 2010. As bikes are required to have reflectors. By using some of the same materials, commonly available. Umbrellas, protecting us from the weather could keep us even safer!

A wind-resistant umbrella frame structure is applicable to an arrangement of dual canopies and includes a primary frame and a secondary frame. A windproof umbrella frame is presented comprising a main rib () supporting a canopy, a support rib (), and a connecting rod () connecting the main rib () and the support rib (). A center plate () is arranged at the middle-section of the main rib (). A support rib joint () is fixedly arranged at one end of the support rib (). One end of the connecting rod () is hinged to the center plate () along the main rib () and the other end is integrally formed with the support rib joint (). The support rib joint () and the connecting rod () are connected by a flexible soft plastic segment (). The soft plastic segment () has a tab () arranged along the outside thereof so as to extend radially outward therefrom. The windproof umbrella frame of the present invention is easy and convenient to assemble, robust, and less costly. 1. A windproof umbrella frame comprising:a main rib supporting an umbrella fabric;a support rib; anda connecting rod disposed between said support rib and said main rib, said main rib includes a center plate centrally disposed thereon, said support rib includes a support rib joint at an end thereof;wherein, one end of said connecting rod hingedly connected to said center plate and another end of said connecting rod integrally molded to said support rib joint, said support rib joint connected to said connecting rod via a soft plastic segment, said soft plastic segment being flexible and includes a tab that extends radially outward therefrom.2. The windproof umbrella frame of claim 1 , wherein said center plate includes a clamping portion and a catch fixed to and extending from said clamping portion claim 1 , said clamping portion includes a clamping slot for receiving said main rib claim 1 , said clamping slot less wide than said main rib so that said clamping slot mechanically secures said center plate to said main rib claim 1 , said connecting rod includes a through hole claim 1 , said catch engages said through hole.3. A sun and weather protection device having fewer individual parts, a stronger clamping force and an operation which is as easy as possible and requiring only a single operating element (e.g. a clamping screw) for all adjustment directions, it is proposed to adopt a hinge combination comprising two hinge halves with rotating disks and integrated gripper clamps. 1. A sun and weather protection device , particularly a parasol , with a standing rod , a support rod and a flexible protecting surface , wherein the flexible protecting surface is attached to the support rod and wherein the standing rod and the support rod are connected to each other by means of a hinge combination and wherein the protecting surface can simultaneously be rotated about and fixed to both the axis of the standing rod and the axis of the support rod by actuating a single clamping screw , and wherein furthermore also the angle between the standing rod and the support rod can be adjusted and fixed , characterized in thatthe hinge combination comprises two hinge halves with rotating disks and integrated gripper clamps.2. An umbrella includes a base unit, a mounting sleeve, a lid, a cover, and a locking unit.
