Besides, the stiff shaping sheet components are disposed on the inside of the umbrella cloth and adjacent to the fold structures so as to improve the stiffness and flatness of the umbrella cloth in the areas where the stiff shaping sheet components are disposed and to ensure fixed positions of the fold structures. The method includes providing an integral, polygonal cloth having corners; forming substantially conic members each disposed on a joining end of one corner and another adjacent corner by shaping and stitching; providing a folding radial frame; securing a lower canopy having a central opening onto the frame; and securing the cloth onto the frame to form an upper canopy having sectors in covering relation to the central opening. The conic members are substantially flat in an inoperative state and are expanded to form a substantially conic shape in response to high winds. Each escape path for wind is thus formed between the sector of the upper canopy and an upper edge of the lower canopy. No cutting is involved in the method. Also, no creases and looseness in a central portion of the umbrella are formed.

Various embodiments of the present disclosure provide a flexible canopy. In one embodiment, the flexible canopy includes a central shaft, a sliding collar, a plurality of supports, a plurality of tensioners, a tensioner connection hub, and a membrane. A first end of each of the supports is connected to the sliding collar, and a second end of each of the supports is connected to the membrane near the edge of the membrane. An umbrella system that provides stability to an umbrella to prevent it from inversion or damage in strong wind conditions. The umbrella includes guidelines that may be stored in the umbrella handle, and may include a spring stored in the handle for retracting a dispensed length of the guidelines. The guidelines may be secured to the canopy of the umbrella or to the ribs of the umbrella. When the umbrella is in an open position, the guidelines may be extended from the handle to the perimeter of the canopy. The guidelines provide a downward force to the umbrella canopy such that when there are strong winds, the umbrella does not invert due to the guidelines pulling down on the canopy.
