MODULAR FURNITURE UNIT

A modular furniture unit is disclosed. The furniture unit includes a base which is capable of releasably securing various furniture modules. The base frame has walls with a plurality of slots for accommodating the insertion of tongue portions extending from the furniture modules. The slots are accessed through the base's cover by means which allow the cover to be opened and sealed at various locations. The cover is opened in selected locations to allow insertion of the tongue portions into the slots, but is otherwise sealed to hide the unused slots. The furniture modules can be easily and conveniently removed and repositioned allowing the units to be reconfigured. The tongue portions may be retained in the slots by a downwardly angled relationship between the slots and the tongue portions.

A plate 6 on the head rest is pivoted to the two links of each pair and the other end of the bottom link is slotted as at 7 and engages with a stud 8 on the bracket 9 which is secured to the back of the chair. Two further studs 10 are mounted on the bracket so that the end of the link can be dropped between them and held in an upright position. A spring 11 connecting the link at 4a with the stud 8 acts to hold the link in the locking position between the two studs 10.

[Class 52 (ii)] A bed convertible into a settee comprises a U- shaped back bar 17 for supporting back cushions or pillows which bar is pivoted to the frame 4 and linked to the rear legs 11 so that when in the settee position as shown the rear legs 11 are rotated to a position so that the seating position of the settee is inclined downwardly and rearwardly. When the back bar is swung forwardly to a position touching the floor the legs 11 are moved to an upright position to bring the bed into level or horizontal position. The back bar 17 is pivoted at 18 to brackets 14 secured at each end of the bed and is linked by links 20 to legs 11 pivoted to brackets 7, the pivotal connection 10 passing through an arcuate slot 9 in the bracket 7. Bed-settee converts from settee to single bed by simply removing the back rest. The settee comprises three components, a rectangular base section 1, a rectangular seat section 3 and a trapezoidal sectioned back rest 4; the connection between the first and the third element being effected by a rectangularly sectioned bar 10 sliding vertically in U brackets 6, 7. Removal of the back rest converts to a single bed. A sofa configured to be converted into various positions, including a sofa, lounge, bed and chaise position. The sofa includes a seat deck and a backrest. Further, the sofa includes a first type of click-clack mechanisms placed between the seat deck and backrest which are used to convert the sofa to the lounge or bed position. Also, the sofa includes a second type of click-clack mechanisms placed throughout the seat deck and backrest. These are used to convert the sofa to one of two possible chaise positions. In particular, these click-clack mechanisms enable the sides of the seat deck and backrest to be raised to various levels (e.g., 20 degrees, 40 degrees). As a result, opposing sides of the seat deck and backrest can be raised at the appropriate level thereby providing two individual chaises facing one another.

A modular furniture unit is disclosed. The furniture unit includes a base which is capable of releasably securing various furniture modules. The base frame has walls with a plurality of slots for accommodating the insertion of tongue portions extending from the furniture modules. The cover is opened in selected locations to allow insertion of the tongue portions into the slots, but is otherwise sealed to hide the unused slots.
