In the dishwasher and the control method therefor of the present invention, the turbidity of washing water is measured and, if it is decided that the level of dirtiness of the tableware is low, then the time over which a heater operates during the washing routine is reduced and, instead, the time over which the heater operates during the rinsing routine is increased. This is advantageous in that it can improve the performance of the drying which is carried out after the rinsing routine. Further, if it is decided that the level of dirtiness of the tableware is high, then the time over which the heater operates during the washing routine is increased and the time over which the heater operates during the rinsing routine is reduced. This is advantageous in that the washing performance can be improved while the overall heater operating time can be maintained.

When the door is in the up or open position, hot moist air may be forcibly pulled from the steam cavity and into an exhaust plenum via an air inlet port that is strategically positioned above the top wall of the door when the door is in the closed position, but below the top wall when the door is in the open position. A controller causes the air to be forcibly pulled through the plenum for a predetermined exhaust time period, such as one minute, and then automatically stops the forced air exhaust movement. The exhaust plenum may be ducted directly to the outside of the surrounding building. A warewash machine for washing wares , comprising:a chamber for receiving wares, the chamber having at least one wash zone;a waste heat recovery unit arranged to transfer heat from exhaust air of the machine to incoming water traveling along a water flow path through the waste heat recovery unit to a booster heater of the machine;a refrigerant medium circuit including at least a first condenser arranged to deliver refrigerant medium heat to the incoming water; anda control arrangement for monitoring subcooled refrigerant medium condition and for responsively modifying operation of one or more of: (i) speed of a compressor of the refrigerant medium circuit, (ii) speed of an exhaust fan the causes air flow across the waste heat recovery unit or (iii) speed of a pump that controls incoming water flow along the water flow path.2. The machine of wherein the control arrangement includes a refrigerant medium temperature sensor and a refrigerant medium pressure sensor downstream of all condensers in the refrigerant medium circuit.3. An automatic dishwasher, having a wash cycle and a drying cycle, includes an openable and closeable washing chamber, at least one spray apparatus inside the washing chamber, and a vacuum pump in fluid communication with the washing chamber. The washing chamber has an interior configured to contain articles to be washed, and is configured to withstand vacuum pressure when closed. The at least one spray apparatus is configured to spray a cleaning fluid upon the articles to be washed during the wash cycle. The vacuum pump is configured to evacuate the interior of the washing chamber to a selected vacuum pressure level during at least a portion of the drying cycle. 1.
