An apparatus is provided for removal of pet hair or other debris from an article placed in a rotatable drum of a tumble dryer. The apparatus features a plurality of adhesive sheets compiled atop one another in a stack, which is attachable to the rotatable drum within an interior thereof. An improved lint removing assembly consisting of Velcro hooks. The Velcro hooks hold and lift lint or hair from garments. A disk, ball or sheet/strip shaped device is made of a silicone or thermoplastic elastomer substance having a tacky surface and a Shore Durometer hardness preferably in the range of 10 to 40. The device is adapted to be placed into a laundry washer or dryer, such that the tumbling motion causes the tacky surfaces of the device to rub against the clothing, thereby removing pet fur. Further tumbling causes the fur collected on the device to eventually disengage and be caught in the lint filter, vent or drain of the washer/dryer. In an alternate embodiment, the tacky silicone or thermoplastic elastomer can form a liner on agitators, fins or paddles within the washer/dryer so as to collect animal fur from fabrics.

A method of removal of beryllium contamination from an article is disclosed. The method typically involves dissolving polyisobutylene in a solvent such as hexane to form a tackifier solution, soaking the substrate in the tackifier to produce a preform, and then drying the preform to produce the cleaning medium. The cleaning media are typically used dry, without any liquid cleaning agent to rub the surface of the article and remove the beryllium contamination below a non-detect level. In some embodiments no detectible residue is transferred from the cleaning wipe to the article as a result of the cleaning process.

A cleaning medium that includes polyisobutylene (also sometimes referred to as polybutylene or as polybutene). Cleaning media include cleaning implements, polishers, and filters. Typically a substantial portion of the polyisobutylene has a molecular weight (MW) greater than 30,000 and in some particular applications the molecular weight is around 85,000. The polyisobutylene is generally adjacent to the surface of a substrate, such as a non-woven or woven fabric. A method of making a cleaning medium is provided. The method typically involves dissolving polyisobutylene in a solvent such as hexane to form a tackifier solution, soaking the substrate in the tackifier to produce a preform, and then drying the preform to produce the cleaning medium. The cleaning media are typically used dry, without any liquid cleaning agent. In embodiments where the cleaning medium is as cleaning implement or a polisher, the surface to be cleaned is wiped with a surface of the cleaning medium adjacent to which the polyisobutylene is disposed. Vigorous wiping may be used in applications where contamination is difficult to remove. In embodiments where the cleaning medium is a filter, a fluid is passed through the cleaning medium and the cleaning medium traps particles and aerosols entrained in the fluid.
