A mechanism for securing a cervical collar to a spine board , the mechanism comprising:a collar stabilization key having a leading end and a trailing end, wherein the collar stabilization key is inserted into a longitudinal channel located within a main body of the spine board and having a first end that intersects with a first end of the main body and a second end, the leading end of the collar stabilization key mates with a post coupled to a cervical collar so as to secure the cervical collar to the main body of the spine board and the trailing end of the collar stabilization key locks the collar stabilization key in the longitudinal channel and to the main body.2. The mechanism of claim 1 , wherein the collar stabilization key comprises a pair of forks having interior facing surfaces that face each other claim 1 , the pair of forks extend from the leading end to a point along a length of the collar stabilization key and being configured to capture the post between the pair of forks to secure the cervical collar to the main body of the spine board.3. When closed, the stretcher clamp remains in a closed, locked position regardless of bumps and jolts received when the gurney is moved across rough terrain. When the gurney reaches its destination, the novel stretcher clamps are easily and reliably openable to release the stretcher handle therefrom. Unlike stretcher clamps of the prior art, the stretcher clamp of the invention is not prone to jamming caused by bending or other distortions during transit. The clamp has two major components: an elongated latch handle and an elongated handle retainer, both rotatively mounted in a rigid, U-shaped frame or base. The one or more grasping features of the bed sheet may include handles that are secured to the bed sheet using an integrated webbing that allows the bed sheet to be used to transport patients from one location to another, such as from a gurney to a hospital bed. An integrated webbing of the bed sheet strengthens an interface between handles and a top portion of the bed sheet so that patients of substantial weight can be transported via the bed sheet.

A person support apparatus includes one or more motorized actuators that are braked in different manners depending upon whether or not electrical power is available to the control system. When electrical power is not available, a delay circuit delays closing a first switch that, when closed, short circuits the terminals of one of the motors. When power is available, other switches are opened and closed in a manner that short circuits the terminals of the motor while the first switch remains open. The other switches may be part of an H-bridge. The control system may also detect back emf (electromotive force) generated by the motor when electrical power is available and issue a notification to a technician or other user if an amplitude and/or duration of the detected back emf exceeds a threshold.

A cot can include a support frame that extends between a front end and a back end. A front leg and a back leg can be slidingly coupled to the support frame. A front actuator can be coupled to the front leg and slide the front leg to retract and extend the front leg. A back actuator can be coupled to the back leg and slide the back leg to retract and extend the front leg. One or more processors can execute machine readable instructions to receive signals from one or more sensors indicative of the front end of the cot and the front leg. The one or more processors can actuate the back actuator to extend the back leg to raise the back end of the cot, when the front end of the cot is supported by a surface and the front leg is retracted a predetermined amount. 1. A cot comprising:a support frame extending between a front end of the cot and a back end of the cot;a front leg and a back leg slidingly coupled to the support frame, wherein the front leg and the back leg retract and extend to facilitate loading or unloading from a support surface;a middle portion disposed between the front end of the cot and the back end of the cot; anda line indicator coupled to the cot, wherein the line indicator projects an optical line indicative of the middle portion of the cot.2. The cot of claim 1 , further comprising:an intermediate load wheel coupled to the front leg between a proximal end and a distal end of the front leg, wherein the intermediate load wheel is substantially aligned with the optical line during loading or unloading.3. The cot of claim 2 , wherein the intermediate load wheel is a fulcrum during loading or unloading.4. The cot of claim 2 , wherein the intermediate load wheel is located at a center of balance of the cot during the loading or unloading.5. An apparatus for mounting surgical rails to a litter having a pair of parallel poles includes a surgical rail fixed to a clamp. The clamp is fixed to one of the parallel poles. A cross bar extends between the clamp and a second clamp fixed to the other of the parallel poles. 1. An apparatus for use with a litter having a pair of parallel poles , comprising:a longitudinal rectangular bar;a first clamp having a circular inner surface and an opening for receiving one of the pair of parallel poles, the first clamp being fixed to the longitudinal rectangular bar on a side of the first clamp that is opposite the circular inner surface;a second clamp having a circular inner surface and an opening for receiving the other of the pair of parallel poles; anda cross bar extending between and fixed to the first and second clamps.2. An electrically actuated wheeled stretcher system which is adapted to provide electrically actuated raising or lowering of a stretcher mounted on a gurney. The system is primarily composed of a stretcher and a gurney, and may be used to transport patients and load and unload the patients by automated transfer of the stretcher from the gurney to other medical equipment, for example, a hyperbaric chamber, and automated transfer from the other medical equipment back on to the gurney.
