The invention relates to an autonomous bed intended for patients with reduced mobility and particularly for tetraplegic and paraplegic persons, which is height adjustable and can switch between a horizontal position as a bed for accommodating the patient when he or she is lying down, and a stepped position as a chair. The bed incorporates transporting mats (12) for supporting the patient, which move in a direction transverse to supports (4, 5, 8), each in its own direction of movement: towards the outside of the bed, to move the patient from the bed to a bed or a wheelchair, for example; and towards the inside of the bed, to accommodate the patient thereon. The longitudinal or transverse orientation of the bed can be changed with respect to the frame, permitting the patient to be able to perform his or her physiological necessities of evacuation by means of the stretcher in a seated position.

The present invention is a combination bed and bathtub that includes a mattress with a left portion and a right portion and a bathtub with a bottom disposed below the mattress, where the left portion and the right portion are separated to utilize the bathtub. There is also a sponge pad disposed on the bottom of the bathtub and an electrically powered device to separate and retract the left portion and the right portion. The combination bed and bathtub can also be manually separated and retracted and the sponge pad is made of light and removable sponge padding. The combination bed and bathtub can be utilized in a hospital, a nursing home or by a caregiver.

A waste collection assembly is provided, whereby urine and excrement from a bedridden patient can be collected without lifting or moving the patient, and without soiling the underlying mattress. The assembly comprises a mattress pad having an elongated layer of cushioning material and a central cavity disposed therein. The cavity is enclosed and supports a bed pan assembly therein. The bed pan assembly comprises an enclosed container, a flexible and replaceable waste collection bag, and a securement ring that secures the bag to the container.
