Wetness sensor for use in an absorbent article

A wetness sensor for an absorbent article that is formed from an ink is provided. The ink includes a proton-accepting chromogen and a proton-donating agent (or color developer). Prior to use, the ink is generally dry and in a protonated form so that it has a visible color. However, upon contact with bodily fluids {e.g., urine, fecal matter, mucus, menses, vaginal fluid, etc.), water in the fluid can lead to deprotonation of the chromogen, thereby resulting in a shift of the absorption maxima of the chromogen towards either the red {"bathochromic shift") or blue end of the spectrum ("hypsochromic shift"). To increase the rate of the color change during use, the present inventors have discovered that a specific type of proton-donating agent may be employed. More particularly, the proton- donating agent is an aliphatic carboxylic acid that is highly soluble in the bodily fluid (e.g., urine), and therefore results in a color change that is very rapid and may be detected within a relatively ...

GONIOCHROMIC INDICATOR FOR SKIN SEALANT

A skin sealant composition having a film former like cyanoacrylate and a goniochromic dye or pigment is provided. The addition of mica/metal oxide powders to the sealant formulation makes it possible to see where it has been applied, due to the mica/metal oxide's goniochromic (e.g. irhdescent or pearlescent) appearance, and it is also still possible to view the underlying skin, especially from an angle at which the color is less apparent. Thus, mica/titanium dioxide or other goniochromic or light interfering particles may be used as an additive to allow for determination of complete coverage, while not significantly obscuring the incision site.

A stimulation material is partially bonded to a pressure-sensitive adhesive to form a stimulation blend. The stimulation blend, with or without pressure-sensitive adhesive, may be juxtaposed between two substrates to form a stimulation composite. When the pressure-sensitive adhesive is present within the stimulation composite, there are regions of the adhesive that do not contain a significant amount of stimulation material. By arranging regions of stimulation blend with respect to the pressure-sensitive adhesive regions, a pattern defined by the stimulation blend is formed. This pattern may deliver a stimulation effect that is at least as effective as using one-hundred percent stimulation blend within the stimulation composite, it not more effective. The stimulation composite may be cut into countless varieties of pledget shapes for use in personal-care absorbent articles.

RFID TAG INLAY FOR INCONTINENCE DETECTION PAD

An absorbent article has one or more fluid filter layers to inhibit electrode traces from being exposed to low volumes of fluid to reduce the number of false positives that are indicated by an RFID tag of the incontinence detection pad. An antenna inlay has a sacrificial trace portion to permit testing for proper operation of an RFID chip electrically coupled to the antenna inlay. After testing, the sacrificial trace portion is severed. A fluid barrier layer blocks fluid from reaching portions of electrode traces that are located on a backsheet outside a periphery of an absorbent core of an incontinence detection pad. The power at which an antenna transmits to wirelessly energize a passive RFID tag of an incontinence detection pad is controlled to reduce the number of false positives indicated by the RFID tag. 1. An antenna inlay of an RFID tag , the antenna inlay comprisingan antenna portion,a first electrical contact portion,a second electrical contact portion, the first electrical contact portion comprising a first electrical lead having a first gap formed therein to provide a first lead segment and a second lead segment, anda first resistor placed across the gap to electrically interconnect the first and second lead segments.2. The antenna inlay of claim 1 , wherein the second electrical contact portion comprises a second electrical lead having a second gap formed therein to provide a third lead segment and a fourth lead segment claim 1 , and further comprising a second resistor placed across the second gap to electrically interconnect the third and fourth lead segments.3.
