The drum periphery has a recess 13 to accommodate the stems of the combs as they pass round the drum. The drum and sprockets 8 mounted on drive shaft 11 may be lifted from recesses 15 in framework 16 for maintenance. The bars are sized to fit the drum grooves (Fig. 3) to present a smooth outer face round which solids are carried to fall from the free ends 3 of the bars. When the filter removal device is securely coupled to the filter, the rigid barrier layer extends substantially across a non-peripheral portion of the primary filtration surface of the filter and allows passage of fluid from the work area through the primary filtration surface of the filter.

The device may be buoyant and can be configured to float at or just below the surface of the water. The device can comprise a strainer, a pump, a housing for the strainer and pump, and one or more floatation devices. Such a design may allow for a floating skimmer and pump with no need for installation in a side wall. In some embodiments, the device can further comprise a pre-filter. For example, in some embodiments, the strainer and filter can remove large objects and particulates, respectively, before the water passes through the pump. As disclosed in some embodiments, various components of the device may be removeable and replaceable to extend the lifetime of the device. 1.
