A process and device for separation of plastic material from other stuff of a various density by a flotation process in a liquid bath. The process involves discharging heavier stuff that settles on the screen bottom by a movable screen bottom slowly moves in the direction of reducing a slot that exists between one edge of screen bottom and the wall of the flotation tank and then after having reached a final position too quickly and abruptly move in the counter-direction. That movement occurs in intervals. This abrupt motion of screen bottom initiates that kinetic energy accumulated in the heaps of metal and other heavy stuff moves this stuff towards the slot-edge and through the slot into a collection-container underneath the screen bottom to be discharged.

Each separation module includes a separation tank, a feeding section for feeding of mixed stream into the separation tank; and a collecting section for collecting of the separated mixed plastics including floaters and sinkers from the separation tank. The separation tank has no moving parts. Each separation tank and the first stage initial washing tank is a standard off-the-shelf circular tank with a flat bottom. Washing and drying steps are eliminated between separation stages. Batch processing is replaced with generally continuous operation. The method comprises providing a reservoir comprising a plurality of seeds in a liquid; providing an inlet flow of the fluid into the reservoir; adjusting the specific gravity of the liquid so that a first portion of the seeds float near the surface of the liquid and a second portion of the seeds sink near the bottom of the reservoir; providing an outlet flow of the fluid from a location proximal to the top of the reservoir, wherein the outlet flow removes the first portion of the seeds from the reservoir; and recycling the outlet flow of the fluid back to the inlet flow of the fluid. The system and method of the invention are particularly useful for separating seeds based on differences in specific gravity.

Said means comprise a horizontal spillway opening, prolonged, arranged along said wall and to a height slightly lower than the liquid level, and pumps which spurt small water spouts almost horizontally, which form on the liquid surface a surface flow directed towards said prolonged opening, and filters of the drained water through said opening; said filters comprise a flexible belt conveyor, which is prolonged, extended for a closed path and in a continuous motion and which operates as a sieve, placed outside the basin and below said spillway opening that intercepts and filters the water and the leaves falling from said spillway opening. 1. A process for trichome separation from plant matter deploys an ionic brine to induce oedemic transformation of disk cell to aid in releasing glandular trichomes. The brine can be agitated to further release disk cells from the plant tissue. The disk cell debris can be separated by sieving the larger trichomes and plant tissue particles that results from agitation and maceration. If the brine concentration is appropriately modified, the trichomes will float and the brine and the plant tissue fragments sink. The floating trichomes are then removed and rinsed and then dried or extracted further after drying. 1. An elutriation column is installed in a separation tank. The elutriation column includes a vertical separation column having a first side feed arm and a second side overflow arm spaced above the first side feed arm. Water is forced upwardly through the vertical separation column at a controllable velocity. A solid feed mixture is fed through the first side feed arm to the vertical separation column. Water from the tank rising in the vertical separation column at the controlled velocity causes targeted floater materials to move upwardly in the vertical separation column and heavier sinker materials to continue to sink. The floater materials flow from an outlet in the side of the separation tank into the recovery tank. At a discharge, lower end of the vertical separation column, the heavier sinker materials are removed from the separation tank. A mechanism is provided for purging undesirable materials that can cause plugging from the feed arm.

Appts. operates by flotation in an ascending current of water. It comprises a compartment for the removal of stones, an evacuation compartment for the beetroots and a compartment for the removal of grass and ligneous matter. The last compartment is provided with an endless wire gauze belt, which is half immersed. A gutter for the evacuation of the grass etc. is situated at the top end of the belt, together with a similar hopper for the lighter beets. The first compartment is fed with an ascending current of water in which the beets float while the stones and heavy debris sink to the bottom and are collected by an elevator cup wheel. After leaving this compartment the beets are no longer in an ascending current; they fall to the bottom and are evacuated at the base. A deflecting device can oscillate freely between the gutters at the top of the belt and this improves the sepn. of the light beets from the vegetable debris. The yield in the stone-removal compartment is much improved by the regularisation of the flotational flow while the deflecting device aids the sepn. of the grass etc.
