A ventilated enclosure includes a vortex baffle to harness the turbulence of air in a way that uses less exhaust air while still providing ample protection to the user. The vortex ventilation system uses the total interior shape and proportion of the ventilated enclosure to direct the motion of air flow in a manner that improves efficiency. The vortex ventilation baffle can enhance the way air naturally curls, or rolls, as air flows through the enclosure. The vortex baffle can cause a mono-stable vortex to from in the enclosure. This vortex is resilient to disturbances that cause ventilated enclosures, such as chemical fume hoods, to spill. The stable vortex is above the work surface and less affected by the way apparatus is loaded inside the enclosure. The vortex baffle achieves better containment (improved safety) at lower exhaust flow (improved energy consumption) as compared to conventional ventilated enclosures.

The metal production processes that are carried out in electrolytic cells, release gases into the environment that incorporate micro drops of the components of the electrolyte, from which metals are produced, one of whose components is generally an acid or a strong base. The difficulties that these gases with micro drops entail are varied and affect the operators, and production structures and equipment. Thus, the operators must protect their respiratory system by using masks and protect their eyes using glasses. The structures, as well as the equipment required for the process and the manipulation of supplies and products, suffer corrosion. The measures that are currently adopted to mitigate the problems consist of placing spheres of polypropylene on the surface of the electrolyte or adding surfactants, which bring problems in the solvent extraction process, and the installation of extraction systems in the bay or in the cells, which in turn generate other problems as the surface of the cell remains in contact with the environment. This invention consists of confining in a compartmentalized manner the zone above the free surface of the electrolyte, by means of the insertion of an Anodic Confiner over each anode, with flexible lateral skirts that are sealed over the vertical faces of both electrodes when the cathodes are introduced in the cell, in which the ends of the confined volume face the orifices of perforated extraction ducts, located on both sides of the cell or of an anode and cathode support structure introduced in the interior of the Cell, ducts that are connected to the normal extraction system of the Production Bay, thus preventing the gases from reaching the environment.

Apparatus for removing particulate matter from an enclosure having an internal space and an opening into the internal space , comprising:a cover positionable adjacent the opening so that the cover covers the opening;a gas source external to the internal space;an inlet conduit that in use extends through the cover and is adapted to direct gas from the gas source to a gas outlet within the internal space whereby particulate matter within the internal space is dislodged and entrained in gas within the internal space;a source of partial vacuum adapted to maintain a partial vacuum within the enclosed space and to draw gas and particulate matter entrained therein from the internal space firstly through an outlet conduit and then through a particulate matter separation means comprising at least one filter;a sensor for sensing concentration of particulate matter in gas leaving the enclosed space;a display adapted to provide to a user information on concentration of particulate matter leaving the internal space so that the operator can continue use of gas from the gas source to dislodge particulate matter in the internal space until a satisfactory value of the concentration is achieved.2. It also deters the dental scaler tool from getting overheated and possibly harming the dentition. A welding fume collector is disclosed that includes a sheath, fume collection opening and vacuum hose. A welding torch extends through the sheath with the nozzle extending beyond the distal end of the sheath. The fume collection opening is at the distal end of the sheath. The vacuum hose extends into the proximal end of the sheath. A vacuum system creates a negative pressure inside the sheath which extends out through the collection opening to collect fumes. The collection opening can be generally elliptical with a major axis extending along the welding direction. The vacuum system, vacuum hose and sheath can be sized to create the desired vacuum to collect welding fumes without interfering with the welding process. A method for depowdering one or more additively manufactured objects , the method comprising the steps of:arranging the one or more additively manufactured objects within an interior of a vacuum chamber, the one or more additively manufactured objects having unbound residual powder on a surface thereof;causing a portion of the unbound residual powder to separate from the surface of the one or more additively manufactured objects; andapplying a vacuum to the vacuum chamber to reduce resistance caused by gas molecules within the interior of the vacuum chamber to facilitate removal of the unbound residual powder.2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the step of causing a portion of the unbound residual powder to separate from the surface of the one or more additively manufactured objects comprises one or both of:directing one or more streams of a pressurized gas onto the surface of the one or more additively manufactured objects to blow at least some of the unbound residual powder off from the surface of the one or more additively manufactured objects; andmoving the one or more additively manufactured objects to cause at least some of the unbound residual powder to fall off from the surface of the one or more additively manufactured objects.3.
