The wet agglomerate may be a wet coal filter coke and smectite clay may be added if desired to adjust its moisture content. As shown in Fig. 1, the filter coke is fed from hopper 10, by screw 12 through shoot 13, and the clay from hopper 11 through shoot 14 to a conveyer 15 moving at high speed in the direction of arrow 16 and having rows of carrier members 17 thereon. A number of pivoted breaker arms 18 extend across conveyer 15 near its downstream end and are urged in a direction opposite to the direction of travel of the conveyer 15 by springs 19. The mixed material then falls freely through shoot 20 on to pelletizing disc 21.

Linear high polymers of ethylene are prepared in granular form by polymerization in the presence of a hydrocarbon solvent and a catalyst prepared by precipitating a halide of a metal of Group IV(a), V(a) or VI(a) of the Periodic Table with an alkyl compound of a metal of Group II or III of said Table on to an inert supporting material comprising an ethylenically unsaturated hydrocarbon polymer, the ratio of support to solvent being one part by weight to 10-50 parts by volume, and that of support to catalyst being between 1:2 and 1:0,25 by weight. The supporting material may be polyethylene, polypropylene or polystyrene. The preferred catalyst components are titanium tetrachloride and ethyl aluminium sesquichloride, and the preferred solvent is heptane. The catalyst components may be added simultaneously or in succession to a suspension of the supporting material in the solvent, and the resulting mixture aged.

An improved process is provided for reducing cellulosic biomass into air suspendable micropowder. Although the process is particularly suitable for processing empty fruit bunches of oil palms, it is adaptable to most cellulosic biomass. The incoming biomass has a water content of around 50% and is reduced to centimeter scale pieces by a chipper or similar device. These pieces are then processed by a tandem line of four pairs of grooved rollers each successive roller having a larger number of grooves. This process squeezes moisture from the biomass and reduces the material into millimeter scale pieces. After an optional drying stage, the material is fed into a terrace line of three or four essentially smooth rollers which squash the material and reduce the particle size into a micrometer scale. In an alternate embodiment, the roll of film is mounted to an axle having a longitudinal axis extending in the same direction as the axis of rotation. The film is pulled axially off the roll and twisted into a strand.
