Flattened cartons or containers stacked in a hopper of a packaging machine are successively removed from the hopper by an extractor including a vertically reciprocable suction-cup carrier engageable with the bottom section of the lowermost carton in the stack which initially is coplanar with an adjoining lateral section. The latter section, during the descent, comes to rest against a stationary ramp; the incipient erection of that lateral section by its engagement with the ramp is accelerated by a pair of swingable arms flanking the ramp, these arms being pivoted into a vertical position for area contact with the side of the passing carton. Possible malfunctions can be detected by a pressure sensor communicating with the suction line or by a photosensor in line with an area occupied by an end section of the carton in the unfolded position thereof.

CARTON FORMING MACHINE AND METHOD A forming machine which permits a preformed corrugated board blank to be manually fed into one end of the machine, which blank has the rear flaps manually folded over and held until they are engaged by hold-down devices on the machine. The blank is moved through the machine by a drive belt and is sequentially acted upon by a folding structure which folds over the front corner tabs. A glueing device applies adhesive to the side flaps, and a further folding structure then folds over the side flaps for adhesive securement to the previouslyfolded corner flaps. The folding structure for the front corner tabs is nonpowered and includes levers for lifting the front tabs in response to movement of the tabs into engagement therewith, following which the front tabs are appropriately folded over while the side flaps pass beneath the lifting levers.

APPARATUS FOR FOLDING AND GLUING CARTON BLANKS Flat open carton blanks are fed by a conveyor past two rotating plows located on each side of the conveyor. A first plow is located upstream of the second plow, and a glue applicator is located between the two plows. A stationary plow or wedge is located ahead of each rotating plow. As the blank is advanced, a first panel is folded upon the blank by the first rotating plow. Glue is applied to the edge of the first panel. As the blank is conveyed past the second rotating plow, a panel on the opposite side of the blank is folded upon the blank with its edge in contact with the glue applied to the edge of the first panel. The thus folded blank is passed through the nip of press rolls to press the two glued edges together. A diverter is provided to reject double folded blanks.

Method and apparatus for making a plastic bag or pouch wherein a plastic web is moved in a longitudinal direction and a tape made from an elongated plastic film is fed to the web. The lanes extend parallel and are spaced apart. A perforation line is formed in the film between lanes, and a flange is defined on one side of only one of said lanes. A magnetic medical pick up device having a top piece and a bottom piece which removeably engage one another with a cavity positioned between the top and bottom piece. At least one magnetic piece is positioned within the cavity and a handle is connected to the top exterior portion of top piece for handling the magnetic medical pick up device. In use, the top piece and bottom piece are separated from one another, and the top piece is positioned over a contaminated medical device. In this position the magnetic attraction of the magnet pulls the contaminated medical device within the cavity and the bottom piece is engaged with the top piece thereby quarantining the contaminated medical device. As at least a portion of the top piece and/or bottom piece are transparent, the contaminated medical device can be inventoried at the end of the procedure while remaining quarantined within the cavity. 1. A medical pick-up device comprising;a top piece having a flat upper wall and a sidewall that extends downwardly from the upper wall;a handle and a magnet connected to the top piece, anda bottom piece that is matingly connected to the top piece to form a cavity.2. A consumer box having a lid with ventilating windows. The box can comprise a storage portion and a lid portion. The lid portion may include flaps that can be secured together to form the lid and windows. The subject invention allows the consumer to see the product being stored in the boxes through the windows and also to remove the box from a nested tray using the flaps. The flaps are also secured in such a way that the box, storing a product, may be carried using the flaps. In one embodiment, the boxes are designed to carry fresh produce, and the windows allow for the product to be ventilated so as to maintain the freshness of the produce.

A method for collapsing a collapsible box , the method comprising:pressing inward on a first side panel and a second side panel of the collapsible box along a lateral hinge, the collapsible box defining the lateral hinge extending at least partially across a front panel, the first side panel, the second side panel, and a rear panel of the collapsible box; andpressing a top panel and a bottom panel of the collapsible box together until the collapsible box is substantially flattened, the top panel and the bottom panel being hingedly coupled to the rear panel.2. The method of wherein pressing the top panel and the bottom panel of the collapsible box together until the collapsible box is substantially flattened comprises folding the first side panel substantially in half.3. The method of wherein pressing the top panel and the bottom panel of the collapsible box together until the collapsible box is substantially flattened comprises reconfiguring the rear panel from a substantially planar shape to a truncated pyramidal shape.4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising opening the collapsible box.5. The method of claim 4 , wherein opening the collapsible box comprises:tearing a perforation between a lower flap portion of the front panel and a frame portion of the front panel; andfolding the lower flap portion away from the frame portion.6. A packaging system for fragile items comprising an outer box, a tray insert and a plurality of inner boxes. The system components protect the items, for example, glass pipes, during distribution, and easily convert into a display system for the items at the point of retail sale. Each item is contained in its own inner box, which includes one or more viewing windows to allow a purchaser easily to view the items. The inner boxes fit removably within paired holes in the tray insert, which provides multiple points of contact to hold the boxes in place, yet allows flexibility to protect the items from impact forces and to allow easy access by a purchaser. The tray insert fits within the outer box, which provides impact and debris protection during transit, and converts to a display mode. Both the outer box and each inner box may be marked with a code to allow inventory tracking. 1. A packaging system , comprising:an outer box, configured to convert to a display mode;a tray insert configured to fit within the outer box and to mechanically interact with a plurality of inner boxes, wherein the tray insert includes a top tier, a middle tier and a bottom tier, and wherein the top tier includes a first array of rectangular holes, the middle tier includes a second array of rectangular holes, and wherein the first array is aligned with the second array; andwherein each of the plurality of inner boxes comprises one or more windows to facilitate the display of a fragile item, and wherein each of the plurality of inner boxes is configured to mechanically interact with a top hole in the first array, and a middle hole in the second array, and to rest on the bottom tier.2.
