Method for recording information or images by means of ink jet printers

Номер: DE0003416449A1

The invention relates to a method for recording information or images by means of ink jet printers having at least two nozzles which are at an angle with respect to one another, the ink droplets being charged electrically and being subsequently deflected between electrodes. The aim and objective is to avoid oblique impacting on the paper, to reduce the "puddle effect" and thus to improve the half tone recording and recording of the colour image. In the method according to the invention, the ink droplets which are ejected from at least two nozzles are provided with one of two predetermined charges so that, after deflection in a homogeneous electrical field, they either fly into collection gates or move on on a flight path which is common to all of them and extends perpendicularly with respect to the recording medium. Thus, some droplets are melted before impacting on the recording medium. ...

Ink jet print head with varied nozzle spacing for producing a seamless swath of printing

Номер: GB0002353499A

An ink jet print head 10 includes an array 12 (Fig.1) of nozzles 14 (Fig.1) arranged along an axis 16. The array has a first portion 22 in which the nozzles are spaced apart along the array axis by a first pitch, and a second portion 24 in which the nozzles are spaced apart by a different second pitch. The array may have a third portion 20 (Fig.1) between the first and second portions with a third pitch different from the first and second pitches. An assembly 30 (Fig.2) may include two or more of the print heads 10, with the second portion 24 of one head overlapping with the first portion 22 of the other head. The assembly may be operated by determining a best aligned pair of nozzles (72,83,Fig.5A), disabling the nozzles (73-75,84,85) extending beyond each member of the pair, and disabling one of the pair to prevent double printing of a single dot row, before printing therewith. Printer ink reduction

Номер: GB0002382905A
Принадлежит:

Intercepting and processing image data for printing an image, so that the printer uses less ink (or toner) to print the image than it would if the processing was not performed. This can be achieved by reducing the number of dots printed by the printer, preferably by removing the same number of dots from each half-tone cell, but from random positions within the half-tone cell. The user can select the "grey value" via a user interface, shown. Preferably the edges of objects such as text fonts, black lines etc. are preserved. An embodiment for ink reduction during colour printing involves mapping the pixels in the image from the work space of the image data to the Hue, Luminance and Saturation (HLS) colour model, modifying the saturation or luminance of some or all of the pixels, and mapping the pixels back to the work space of the image data (Fig. 7). To preserve coloured ink, pixels can be modified to use more black ink at the expense of coloured ink. In a further embodiment, the predicted ...

Inkjet printing with uniform wear of ink ejection elements and nozzles

Номер: GB0002302065A
Принадлежит:

In one embodiment of the invention, an inkjet printer selectively energizes ink ejection elements in a scanning printhead such that the top nozzles of the printhead do not always print the first line of text in a scan. In one embodiment, this is accomplished by occasionally aligning the bottommost nozzle in the printhead with the bottom of the last full line of text to be printed during the scan. The alignment of the printhead with respect to the lines of text to be printed is varied from page to page or varied at other intervals so that the top nozzles and bottom nozzles are used about equally. This will also cause more uniform wear of the middle nozzles. The more uniform wearing of the nozzles and ink ejection elements extends the life of the printhead. In inkjet printers using a black ink printhead which has a wider printing swath than one or more color ink printheads in the same scanning carriage, a new printing technique makes use of the nozzles in the wider printhead which extend ...

The passageway has an inlet thereto and an outlet orifice therefrom and further defines a thermal chamber portion located directly in the path intermediate the inlet and the outlet orifice and spaced upstream from the outlet orifice. Liquid is supplied to the passageway to fill it and an input signal is generated each time it is desired to produce a liquid droplet. The liquid in the thermal chamber portion is heated in response to each input signal and heating is sufficient instantaneously to cause a change of state of the liquid in the thermal portion chamber sufficient to produce a force acting on liquid filling the passageway between the thermal chamber portion and the orifice that overcomes the surface tension of liquid at the orifice and thereby projects a droplet of liquid from the orifice. After projection of the droplet of liquid and with attenuation ...

Inkjet printing system and inkjet printing method

Номер: US20120050370A1
Принадлежит: Canon Inc

There is provided an inkjet printing apparatus which can restrict each of coloring of reflected light and image clarity within an allowable range required in each of a color mode and a monochromatic mode in any of the modes to output an image with a high grade. For this end, a print duty of each of the first image improving liquid and the second image improving liquid is set in such a manner that a ratio of the print duty of the first image improving liquid having low penetratability to the print duty of the second image improving liquid having high penetratability is higher in the monochromatic mode than that in the color mode. Thereby, an appropriate ratio and an appropriate amount of appropriate kinds of the image improving liquids are applied to each of the color mode and the monochromatic mode.

For a serial color ink jet printing apparatus that forms an image using a symmetric printing head that ejects large dots and small dots, the configuration of a printing head is provided for suppressing, to the extent possible, a cyclic fluctuation in the main scanning direction. According to the present invention, individual nozzle arrays are arranged so that two nozzle arrays, i.e., a cyan nozzle array c 1 and a magenta nozzle array m 1 , that are located nearer each other, form dots on adjacent scan lines. With this arrangement, a high quality image, having neither an uneven density nor an uneven color, can be formed when a printing head is inclined, or when a cyclic shift in printing positions occurs, depending on the position of the main scanning direction.

In a color mode, among clear ink data CL and CL, only the data CL is set to a uniform use amount of 20%, while the use amount for the data CL is set to zero. Meanwhile, in a monochrome photo mode, the data CL indicates a usage of 10% to 40% near a white point, but starting at the intermediate gradations the data CL use amount decreases while the data CL use amount increases, with a data CL use amount of 20% near a black point. In so doing, it is possible to sufficiently suppress bronzing in the color mode where coloring ink data exists, without imparting a particularly strong unnatural look except for specific colors. Meanwhile, in the monochrome photo mode where coloring ink data does not exist, high-level suppression of bronzing is possible, at the cost of a slight reduction in the glossiness of the printed material. 1. The dot counter scans the digital halftone data in the X direction and performs accumulation-counting on the pixel value Ixy (the number of printing dots) of each pixel for each address y with the accumulation counter CntCum(y). The signal value Gxy of the corresponding pixel address (x, y) is obtained from the division pattern memory unit. The nozzle selection unit selects the nozzle to be used for forming a printing dot, based on the counted values of the accumulation counter CntCum and the signal value Gxy of the division pattern. Systems, methods, software for monitoring usage of a recording medium in an image forming apparatus. In one embodiment, a usage monitor receives a raster image, and identifies thresholds that distinguish different intensity levels reproduced by different drop sizes of the recording material. The usage monitor identifies a set of pixel values for a block of pixels from the raster image, performs a vectorized comparison of the set of pixel values to each of the thresholds to generate sets of comparison bits, determines a number of set bits in each of the sets of comparison bits, and updates a threshold counter for each of the thresholds based on the number of set bits. The usage monitor may then compute drop counts for different drop sizes based on the threshold counter for each of the thresholds.
