An internal drive shaft (65) is adjusted by the gear change control to turn about a second axis so that the hub and shaft can move relative to each other with a radial component. A front and rear wheel drive motorcycle includes an engine unit including a cylinder assembly and a crank shaft and first and second speed change belt mechanisms mounted to one end of the crank shaft for driving the front and rear wheels, respectively. The first and second speed change belt mechanisms are operatively connected to first and second speed change gear mechanisms through first and second driven pulleys respectively provided to the first and second speed change belt mechanisms. To one end of the crank shaft is mounted a driving pulley means operated commonly with respect to the first and second speed change belt mechanisms. The driving pulley means comprises a stationary driving pulley mounted to one end of the crank shaft and operated commonly with respect to the first and second speed change belt mechansims and a pair of movable driving pulleys mounted to one end of the crank shaft with the stationary drinving pulley interposed therebetween. The cylinder assembly of the engine is directed substantailly horizontally forwardly or rearwardly with respect to the motorcycle body for effectively utilizing the space for the location of the respective elements or units of the motorcycle.

The transmission is for a lightweight motorised bicycle and consists of flexible shafts connecting the engine to the front and/or rear wheel via right angled drives and couplings. The shaft consists of a steel or synthetic wire, coiled or twisted. A typical application uses an engine (1) connected to a right angled drive box (2) and a flexible shaft (3) with a coupling (9) at either end. The far shaft end drives another right angle drive box (4), which, in turn, drives the wheel (5). A similar arrangement is used to drive the other wheel (8).
