The two-way valve may be used on thermo-weldable sachets contg. foods and is closed when pressures inside (A) the sachet balance those outside (B). The valve comprises twin co-axial cups (14, 15) mounted in opposition on a partition plate cum mounting flange (9). Each cup is covered by a floating flexible obturator disc (18, 19) within an axially adjustable perforated cap (22, 23). The base of the resp. cups is traversed by an inclined hole (16, 17) which communicates with the exterior on the opposite side of the partition (9). The caps (22, 23) can be displaced onto the cups (14, 15) wedging the obturator discs (18, 19) on the cup rims and closing the valve passages concerned. The caps may inc. a conical projection (28) and an intermediate circular rib (31) which deform the obturator and promote the seal.

Containers are disclosed, as well as multilayer films used in such containers, which advantageously maintain a high seal strength even after being subjected to retort conditions for sterilization. These retortable containers and multilayer films are also beneficially self--venting upon exposure to microwave heating, when the internal container pressure exceeds a threshold value. The self-venting nature of these containers arises from particular sealing characteristics, in which the seal width differs in defined, self-venting seal regions, relative to non-venting seal regions of a given peripheral seal. Particular structural features and geometries of the self-venting seal regions can be used to improve the location of venting and control of the vented gases.

A one-way valve is mounted over a vent hole in a flexible package to enable gases to vent. The valve has a flexible base layer, a flexible cover layer and an interposed layer of oil. Each layer has an opposed pair of side edges. The cover layer is thinner than the base layer and is secured to the base layer along respective contiguous portions of the side edges to form an openable channel. The oil layer is located in the channel between the base layer and the cover layer and over the hole to form a bond holding the cover layer on the base layer until pressure within the package causes the bond to break, whereupon the cover layer to lift ups and opens the hole valve. Methods of making the package and valve are also disclosed.

One exemplary embodiment provides for a single mix beverage container which contains a volume of mix beverage equally divisible between the volume remaining in a plurality of base beverage containers. Another exemplary embodiment includes more than one mix beverage container which may contain different mix beverages. This invention removes the necessity of transporting a dispensing apparatus, such as a shot glass or volumetric dispenser or measuring glass, and also removes the need for a separate cup or glass in which to mix the base and mix beverages together, as provided in U.S. Pat. No. 8,181,781. 1. A microwavable package is formed with venting mechanisms that are arranged in one of a number of different ways, and are covered with a pressure sensitive adhesive label. While the vents are covered with the pressure sensitive adhesive label, the package is hermetically sealed. The label protects the venting mechanisms from breakage due to product mishandling and abuses during storage and transportation. Prior to be cooked the consumer will remove or peel back the pressure sensitive adhesive label exposing or opening the venting mechanisms. Such vents can be of multiple different shapes, including a perforated shape whose center portion is removed or center portions sticks to the pressure sensitive adhesive label when the label is pulled back and removed from the package. The package is then placed in the oven or microwave and the product inside can be cooked safely. This method guarantees a reliable, safe designed, steam release and cook-in-the-bag mechanism that will always deliver a controllable process from the freezer to the table.

At least one degassing valve is embedded in the surface of the heating bag, providing for a way for steam to be released from the interior of the bag. The heating element comprises powdered aluminum, calcium oxide, calcium carbonate, calcium dihydroxide, sodium carbonate and sodium hydroxide that is reacted with water in a two stage chemical reaction to create heat within the heating bag. The element and the heat generated by the heating element is transferred to a packaged food item placed within the heating bag, thereby heating the food item to a desired temperature. The timing and the heat/pressure level of the cooking process inside the sealed bag can be controlled by correlating the interior space of the heating bag and the size of the element and number of degassing valves embedded in the surface of the heating bag.

A circumferential end part of the laminate film is subjected to a thermal fusion treatment to form a sealed portion. A method of making a one-way gas release valve for releasing gas pressure from within a coffee container comprises pre-oiling a relatively narrow dry strap of flexible material and laminating the pre-oiled dry strap between relatively wide ribbons of base and cover material with the dry strap overlying spaced vent patterns in the base material. Alternatively, the base material may be pre-oiled or both the base material and the dry strap may be pre-oiled. The dry strap and base may be made of PET and the cover may be made of mPET. Gas release valves are then die cut from the resulting web with each valve containing a vent pattern. Pre-oiling of the dry strap and/or the base can be accomplished through a roll metered process to insure that the oil is applied in precise amounts and with consistent thickness and coverage. Since the oil is applied during fabrication of the gas release valves, the vent patterns in the base can be configured to function also as a filter to prevent coffee grinds from migrating into the valve. 1. A method of making valves comprising:(a) forming a first pre-lamination having a width;(b) forming a second pre-lamination having a width;(c) applying oil to one face of a dry strap having a width less that the width of the first and second pre-laminations;(d) laminating the other face of the dry strap to the first pre-lamination;(e) laminating the second pre-lamination to the first pre-lamination to sandwich the dry strap between the pre-laminations and form a finished lamination; and(f) cutting the finished lamination at intervals into valves.2. The method of and wherein step (c) comprises roll metering oil onto one face of the dry strap.3. Disclosed are packaged frozen precooked dough or batter-based food products and methods of heating the food products.
