UV-curable surface-coating (paint, lacquer, enamel) systems are proposed which, in addition to a UV-curable constituent, contain a two-component constituent. The UV-curable constituent comprises one or more prepolymers, one or more reactive thinners and a photoinitiator or an initiator mixture, and the two-component constituent comprises one or more epoxy resins and one or more amide curing agents or one or more polyols and one or more isocyanic curing agents. These surface-coating systems are distinguished by the fact that they require only very short curing times, consume little energy during curing, and are environmentally friendly. They are also and in particular suitable for heat-sensitive parts. In addition, a wide range of starting materials can be employed for these surface-coating materials, so that a very considerable degree of freedom is available with respect to properties and colour of the surface-coating film produced.

A fluorescent polycarboxylate superplasticizer and a preparation method thereof. The preparation process of the polycarboxylate superplasticizer is as follows. Adhesion of a cured coating is improved by replacing the tertiary amine co-sensitizer, at least in part, with dimethylaminoethyl acrylate.

The invention relates to a process for coating wood, wood materials and paper in which a radiation-curable coating composition is applied and cured by means of UV rays or electron beams. The film-forming component employed in the coating compositions comprises polyester acrylates and/or polyester methacrylates which can be prepared by esterifying polyesters or polyethers carrying at least two free hydroxyl groups per molecule and having number average molecular weights of between 400 and 4000 by means of from 100 to 150 mol%, based on the OH group of the polyester or polyether, of acrylic acid and/or methacrylic acid with acidic catalysis and with azeotropic removal of the water of reaction. After the esterification catalyst has been neutralised, the residual acrylic or methacrylic acid is reacted with an epoxide compound containing at least two epoxide groups per molecule. The entrainer is then removed by distillation together with residual acrylic or methacrylic acid. The invention also relates to the process for the preparation of the polyester (meth)acrylates and to the use of these polyester (meth)acrylates in radiation-curable coating compositions.

Disclosed is a photocurable resin composition that can form a dried coating film, which is highly dry to the touch, has high sensitivity, and can form a cured film which is soft and particularly has a high insulating resistance under high temperature and humidified conditions.  Also disclosed are a dry film and a cured product of the photocurable resin composition, and a printed wiring board comprising a cured film such as a solder resist formed using the photocurable resin composition, the dry film and the cured product. The photocurable resin composition is alkaline-developable and comprises a photosensitive resin having a structure represented by general formula (I), a carboxyl group-containing resin, and a photopolymerization initiator.  Preferably, the photocurale resin composition further comprises a heat curable component and more preferably further comprises a colorant.  In general formula (I), R 1 s, which may be the same or different, represent a hydrogen atom and an organic group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms; R 2 represents at least one functional group selected from the group consisting of alkyl groups having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, alkylene groups having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, and phenylene groups; R 3 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms; R 4 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms; R 5 represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; p is an integer of 1 to 5; q is an integer of 3 or more; m is an integer of 1 to 4; and n is an integer of 1 to 10.

A coating composition which is suitable for the production of photopolymerisable coatings on contact wafers for solder masks, contains the following: a) an ethylenically unsaturated, polymerisable reaction product of an aromatic polyepoxide and an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid. The product is solid or semisolid. b) An inert, inorganic filler. The filler and the reaction product (a) are present in a weight ratio of from 20 to 65 parts of filler to from 80 to 35 parts of reaction product. c) A photopolymerisation initiator for the polymerisable reaction product, and d) a volatile organic solvent for the polymerisable reaction product. The materials are applied to a substrate, for example to contact wafers. They are allowed to dry by evaporation of the organic solvent in order to give, on the substrate, a photopolymerisable coating which can be treated by actinic radiation, for example through a template pattern. The material treated in this way is insensitive to hot soldering and is accordingly suitable as a solder mask in the production of printed circuits.

A thermosetting resin composition comprises a blend of: (A) at least 30% by wt. of an ethylenically unsaturated resin prepared by first reacting an ethylenically unsaturated monocarboxylic acid, e.g. (meth)acrylic acid or cinnamic acid, with a polyepoxide, e.g. a diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A or an epoxy novolac resin. A dicarboxylic acid anhydride is then reacted with the secondary hydroxyl groups to provide pendant half-ester groups from 0À8 to 1À2 equivalents of epoxide are used per equivalent of monocarboxylic acid and from 0À1 to 1À2 moles of dicarboxylic acid anhydride, e.g. of maleic or phthalic acid per equivalent epoxide. (B) Up to 70% by weight of a polymerizable monomer containing a >C = CH 2 group, e.g. a vinyl aromatic monomer such as styrene, a hydroxyalkyl ester of (meth)acrylic acid or of crotonic acid, alkyl esters of these acids or acrylic or methacrylic acid. Rapidly thickening compositions may be obtained by mixing: (A) a thermosetting composition as set out above (B) an oxide or hydroxide of a metal of Group II of the Periodic Table, e.g. MgO, in an amount sufficient to provide at least 0À75 equivalents per -COOH equivalent and (C) a catalytic amount of water, i.e. at least 0À25 equivalents per -COOH equivalent. A radiation curable coating composition for various substrates contains an adduct of acrylic acid and an epoxy resin (which may be modified with an anhydride, such as maleic anhydride), and a reactive acrylate monomer vehicle. The coating composition can be pigmented and can also contain additives commonly used in coatings, such as wetting agents and flow control agents. The coating composition does not require the usual hydrocarbon vehicles that give rise to air pollution problems. Surface gloss of a UV cured film obtained from a pigmented coating composition can be increased by using a photosensitizer combination of 2-chlorothioxanthone and a phenylketone, such as benzophenone. Adhesion of a cured coating is improved by replacing the tertiary amine co-sensitizer, at least in part, with dimethylaminoethyl acrylate.
