Cumylphenol and its ester derivatives may be used as accelerators in amine-cured epoxy systems. Also, cumylphenol and its derivatives have been discovered to be useful as reactive diluents for epoxy, phenol and urethane resins. The glycidyl ether, a new composition of matter, is also useful as a reactive diluent for urethane resins. Additionally, the ester derivatives are non-reactive plasticizers for urethane and the benzoate and higher acyl ester for rigid polyvinyl chloride. A polyether copolymer having a weight-average molecular weight of 10 4 to 10 7 , formed from 3 to 30 % by mol of a repeating unit derived from propylene oxide, 96 to 69 % by mol of a repeating unit derived from ethylene oxide, and 0.01 to 15 % by mol of a crosslinkable repeating unit derived from a reactive oxirane compound, gives a provide a crosslinked solid polymer electrolyte which is superior in processability, moldability, mechanical strength, flexibility and heat resistance, and has markedly improved ionic conductivity.

The invention relates to a method to produce polytetrahydrofuran (PTHF) copolymer from plant oil by copolymerizing epoxidized oil; preferably from natural sources like animal oils and more preferably from plants oils; with tetrahydrofuran (THF), in the presence of boron trifluoride-diethylether complex or tetrafluoroboric acid to yield the desired copolymer with specific properties. The properties of the produced PTHF copolymer depends on the (i) type of epoxidized oil used as co-monomer (ii) mole ratio between epoxidized oil and THF (iii) amount of catalyst (iv) reaction temperature (v) reaction time. The produced PTHF copolymers were then used as raw material for the production of polyurethane and polyurea.

Waterborne coatings are described having an acceptable balance of properties both during the storage of coating, application and drying. The period in which irregularities in a freshly applied coating can be repaired without resulting in brush marks is referred to as the open time. Aqueous coatings generally employ dispersed high molecular weight polymers as binders. These binders often provide short open times when the coating is dried since the dispersed polymer particles tend to be immobilized quickly in the edge region of an applied coating. As a result, the viscosity of the coating increases rapidly, which leads to a limited window of workability. The instant invention provides additives that are not volatile but that will extend the time that the film is malleable after it is applied without interfering with other attributes, such as the resistance of the coating to freezing while in the can prior to application.

The non-terminating features of the polymerization of this invention permit the preparation of functionally terminated butadiene based polymers and block polymers containing sufficient amounts of trans-1,4 butadiene units to crystallize.

The present invention provides a polyether copolymer containing (1) a main chain derived from ethylene oxide, and a side chain having two oligooxyethylene groups, (2) an electrolyte salt compound, and (3) an aprotic organic, if necessary The present invention relates to a polymer solid electrolyte obtained by mixing a solvent or a plasticizer which is a derivative of a polyalkylene glycol having a number average molecular weight of 200 to 5,000 or a metal salt or a metal salt of a derivative, wherein the electrolyte has an ionic conductivity as compared to a conventional solid electrolyte. It is excellent in processability, formability and mechanical strength. The secondary battery may be manufactured by using the polymer solid electrolyte together with the lithium metal negative electrode and the lithium cobaltate positive electrode.

Hydroxy-terminated poly(alkylether) homopolymers and random copolymers are derived from either substituted oxiranes or from nitratoalkyl-substituted or azidoalkyl-substituted oxetanes and the copolymers from a wide range of oxiranes and higher cyclic ethers, particularly oxetanes. The polymers preferably contain from 20 to 150, most preferably 50 to 100, substituted oxyethylene repeat units in each polymeric chain, and have the formula: <IMAGE> wherein R<1> and R<2> are independently selected from hydrogen and methyl; R<3> and R<4> are H or 1 to 10 C alkyl, 1-2C chloroalkyl and bromoalkyl, or 1-5C nitratoalkyl, nitratoalkoxyalkyl, nitroalkyl, nitroalkoxyalkyl, azidoalkyl, azidoalkoxyalkyl, fluoronitroalkyl, and fluoronitroalkoxyalkyl, provided that at least one of R<3> and R<4> is not hydrogen; Z is an optionally-substituted alkylene group containing at least three bridging carbon atoms except that it is substituted when a is zero; R<5> is a residue of an organic hydroxy material which originally contained 1 to 6 hydroxyl groups; a is zero or 1 to 200; b is zero or 1 to 199 except that when a is zero, b is 5 to 200; (a + b) is at least 10; and c is 1 to 6. <IMAGE>

Waterborne coatings are described having an acceptable balance of properties both during the storage of coating, application and drying. The period in which irregularities in a freshly applied coating can be repaired without resulting in brush marks is referred to as the open time. Aqueous coatings generally employ dispersed high molecular weight polymers as binders. These binders often provide short open times when the coating is dried since the dispersed polymer particles tend to be immobilized quickly in the edge region of an applied coating. As a result, the viscosity of the coating increases rapidly, which leads to a limited window of workability. The instant invention provides additives that are not volatile but that will extend the time that the film is malleable after it is applied without interfering with other attributes, such as the resistance of the coating to freezing while in the can prior to application.
