This invention relates to a thermoplastic molding composition comprising a blend of polycarbonate and polyamide compatibilized with a polyalkyloxazoline. The compatibilized blend exhibits higher impact resistance, elongation, and solvent resistance than similar blends which were not compatibilized by a polyalkyloxazoline. The compatibilized blend has utility where the combination of high modulus, temperature and solvent resistance, dimensional stability, creep resistance, hydrolytic stability, high elongation and impact strength are required, such as automotive body panels, appliance housings and electrically insulating molded components.

This invention relates to a process for the continuous mass polymerization of a monomer formulation comprising at least principally a monoalkenylaromatic monomer and an ethylenically unsaturated nitrile monomer having dispersed therein a first grafted diene rubber to form a first partially polymerized mixture; polymerizing said first mixture to form a second partially polymerized mixture followed by dispersing a second grafted rubber in said second mixture to form a third partially polymerized mixture. The third mixture is devolatilized to form a polyblend of a polymer of said monomers and said dispersed grafted diene rubbers having a bimodal particle size distribution. The process is a continuous one run at a high temperature and high rate to produce polyblends having a matrix polymer phase of pre-determined average molecular weight and molecular weight distribution.
