Swipe scanner employing a vision system

Номер: US20120018519A1
Автор: E. John McGarry
Принадлежит: Cognex Corp

This invention provides a point-of-sale scanning device that employs vision sensors and vision processing to decode symbology and matrices of information of objects, documents and other substrates as such objects are moved (swiped) through the field-of-view of the scanning device's window. The scanning device defines a form factor that conforms to that of a conventional laser-based point-of-sale scanning device using a housing having a plurality of mirrors, oriented generally at 45-degree angles with respect to the window's plane so as to fold the optical path, thereby allowing for an extended depth of field. The path is divided laterally so as to reach opposing lenses and image sensors, which face each other and are oriented along a lateral optical axis between sidewalls of the device. The sensors and lenses can be adapted to perform different parts of the overall vision system and/or code recognition process. The housing also provides illumination that fills the volume space. Illustratively, illumination is provided adjacent to the window in a ring having two rows for intermediate and long-range illumination of objects. Illumination of objects at or near the scanning window is provided by illuminators positioned along the sidewalls in a series of rows, these rows directed to avoid flooding the optical path.

Point-of-transaction workstation for imaging indicia over full coverage scan zone occupied by asymmetrical light collection regions

Номер: US20120118962A1
Принадлежит: Symbol Technologies LLC

A bi-optical, dual window, point-of-transaction workstation images indicia associated with multi-sided products over a full coverage scan zone by asymmetrically splitting the field of view of at least one imager into light collection regions of different spatial volumes. The light collection regions fill the scan zone and minimize dead areas therein. A smaller light collection region images one side of the product, while a larger light collection region images more than one side of the product. All sides of the product are imaged in the light collection regions. Twisting of the light collection regions relative to at least one of the windows is minimized so that the light collection regions fit fully with minimal clipping through each window. Illumination light is directed away from a user's eyes.

It has been developed primarily for reducing kogation of such dyes in an inkjet printhead. The following patents or patent applications filed by the applicant or assignee of the present invention are hereby incorporated by cross-reference.Chemical dyes are important compounds for a range of applications. For example, inkjet inks typically comprise at least one colorant in the form of a dye. Many dyes are charged molecules carrying either a positive or negative charge, which is balanced with a counterion. The present invention specifically relates to cationic salts of sulfonated dyes, such as sulfonated phthalocyanine dyes.Sulfonated phthalocyanine dyes are useful in inkjet ink applications. For example, sulfonated copper phthalocyanines are well-known cyan dyes. More recently, the present Applicant has shown that sulfonated gallium naphthlocyanines are useful IR dyes having minimal visibility and excellent ozonefastness. Accordingly, sulfonated gallium naphthlocyanines have found utility in the Applicant's Netpage and Hyperlabel™ systems. The Netpage and Hyperlabel™ systems generally require a substrate having a position-coding pattern printed thereon. Two-dimensional code reader and program

Номер: US20130186957A1
Принадлежит: Shift Co Ltd

Disclosed is a technology that specifies each of a plurality of two-dimensional codes in an image and reduces the processing time for judging color in each cell region in each specified two-dimensional code. Based on edge images generated from obtained images, candidate regions among these edge images are extracted, a judgment is made about whether or not a characteristic pattern is included in each of the corresponding regions in the original images that correspond to these extracted candidate regions, and then the two-dimensional code regions are detected from among the original images. The color is judged both for each pixel group that comprises each row of that region and for each pixel cell, in pixel array order. If it is determined that a certain number or more pixels in each row that corresponds to each cell region are included in the color judgment region, color judgment is omitted for the remaining pixels in that row.

Nanoscience is being developed in conjunction with advanced medical science for further precision in diagnosis and treatment. Multidisciplinary biomedical scientific teams including biologists, physicians, mathematicians, engineers and clinicians are working to gather information about the physical properties of intracellular structures upon which biology's molecular machines are built. A new emphasis is being given to moving medical science from laboratory to the bedside and the community. This platform development program brings together an outstanding laboratory that is pioneering biomedical applications of PAA (polyacrylic acid) nanovectors (Kopelman), together with an innovative porphyrin chemistry and a world-class PDT (photodynamic therapy) group at RPCI that is highly experienced in the high volume screening and in vitro/in vivo evaluation of novel compounds, and in developing new therapies from the test tube to FDA approval for clinical use. Although nanoplatforms and nanovectors (i.e. a nanoplatform that delivers a therapeutic or imaging agent) for biomedical applications are still evolving, they show enormous promise for cancer diagnosis and therapy. The approach has been the subject of several recent reviews. Therapeutic examples include nanoparticles (NPs) containing PDT agents, folate receptor-targeted, boron containing dendrimers for neutron capture and NP-directed thermal therapy. Recently, therapeutic and imaging potential of encapsulated, post-loaded and covalently linked photosensitizer-NPs have been evaluated. In PAA NP the post-loading efficiency showed enhanced in vitro/in vivo therapeutic and imaging potential. PAA NP have core ...

It has been developed primarily for improving the stability of such dyes in the presence of ozone, especially when such dyes are printed on paperThe following patents or patent applications filed by the applicant or assignee of the present invention are hereby incorporated by cross-reference.The disclosures of these co-pending applications are incorporated herein by reference.Chemical dyes are important compounds for a range of applications. For example, inkjet inks typically comprise at least one colorant in the form of a dye. Many dyes are charged molecules carrying either a positive or negative charge, which is balanced with a counterion. The present invention specifically relates to cationic salts of sulfonated dyes.In the field of inkjet inks, it is important for any colorant to be stable over a prolonged period of time (e.g. at least 5 years, at least 10 years or at least 20 years). For example, it is desirable that photos printed from an inkjet printer do not fade significantly over time. Generally, it is desirable for inkjet-printed photos to behave comparably to traditional photos.Inkjet colorants printed onto a surface may degrade via a number of mechanisms. In particular, poor stability in the presence of ozone and other atmospheric oxidants is a major drawback of many potential viable dyes.
