A stable, air-dry, low-VOC waterborne metallic flake pigment dispersion containing an aqueous carrier, film-forming binder and metallic-flake pigment and having a solids content of about 10-30% by weight; wherein the metallic surface is passivated with a hydrophobically-modified aliphatic organic phosphate ester which is subsequently combined with an aqueous resin binder to stabilize the metallic flakes against long-term settling, gassing, floating, and reagglomeration of flake particles. The VOC of the resulting dispersion is about 2.5 to 3.5 lbs/gallon (minus water) and contains metallic flake pigments in a pigment-to-binder weight ratio of about 10/100 to 50/100. The dispersion can be used neat as a bright metallic waterborne base coating or combined with other colored dispersions and other compatible resinous materials.

The method of producing a water-borne multicolor pattern paint composition according to the present invention comprises: mixing 50.0-60.0 wt% of a water-borne gel; and 40.0-50.0 wt% of a natural stone color paint, wherein the water-borne gel is prepared by mixing a synthetic silica thickening agent, a water-soluble anti-sedimentation agent and water, and the natural stone color paint is prepared by mixing a paste for forming water-soluble multicolor paint particles and a pigment paste; and cutting the natural stone color paint to a size of 3-8 mm and dispersing the same by using a mesh screen which moves up and down. The present invention can be used to realize various beautiful colors and patterns of natural granite, or luxurious patterns and textures of marble to varying degrees, economically and efficiently, and also can be simply and conveniently applied with conventional coating devices. Further, the present invention has high storability and adhesive strength, and, being a water-soluble product, has a low organic solvent content, and is thus less harmful to the human body and more environmentally-friendly.

For paints and the like, an aqueous tinter which does not block dispensing nozzles and which has a viscosity of from 0.05 to 1.5 Ns/m 2 (20° C.) and which contains pigment particles, water, micellising dispersant and a non-micellising auxiliary material. The weight ratio of dispersant to pigment must exceed the ratio which would be present at the Daniel Flow Point for a notional tinter consisting only of the pigment, water and the dispersant. The amount of auxiliary material must be sufficient to enable the tinter to be expelled through a bore 2 mm in diameter and 15 mm long by a pressure of not more than 320 MN/m 2 after storage in the bore at 25° C. for 18 hours under a relative humidity of 50%. Preferred dispersants comprise long chain hydrophilic and long chain hydrophobic moieties which may be poly(alkylene glycol) esters of long chain fatty acids or hydrophobic backbone copolymers with pendant poly(alkylene glycol) moieties as hydrophilic side chains.

本发明公开了一种包覆钛白颜料水性分散体的制备方法。首先将钛白颜料、表面活性剂和去离子水通过分散、研磨制备得到超细钛白颜料水性分散体,继续搅拌超细钛白颜料水性分散体并滴加铝盐和硅盐,对分散后的钛白颜料进行无机物混合包覆,然后再添加两种分散剂,二氧化钛颜料表面包覆的氧化物中的铝、硅与分散剂形成稳定的共价键,能够长期稳定的存在水溶液中。通过本方法制备的钛白颜料水性分散体具有颜料含量高、颜料颗粒粒径小散射力高、在水性溶液中能够稳定存在、不易返粗等优点。

Stable aqueous suspensions of chalk whiting are prepared by (a) forming an aqueous suspension of chalk whiting containing from 70 to 85% by weight of solids, the chalk whiting comprising not more than 1% by weight of particles having an equivalent spherical diameter larger than 53 microns, and (b) thoroughly agitating the suspension, in the presence of a dispersing agent which is a water-soluble salt having an organic polymeric anion, until at least 5 horsepower hours of energy per ton of dry chalk whiting has been dissipated in the suspension. The optimum concentration of dispersing agent is 0À05 to 0.50% by weight based on the weight of chalk whiting. The dispersing agent is preferably a salt of polyacrylic acid but polymethacrylic acid salts and the condensation product of a sulphonated naphthalene and formaldehyde are also mentioned.
