Polymeric mist control materials, methods of forming polymeric mist control materials, and methods of using such materials for mist control are provided. The polymeric mist control additives are formed of molecules comprised predominantly of monomers that confer high solubility in fuel and include associative groups that attract each other in donor-acceptor manner, and are incorporated such that multiple associative groups are in close proximity (“clusters”), such that the clusters are separated by very long non-associative sequences. 1. USE OF CROSSLINKED POLYMERS FOR LOWERING THE COLD FILTER PLUGGING POINT OF FUELS

The present invention concerns the use, for lowering the cold filter plugging point of a fuel composition, of one or more crosslinked polymers comprising at least one unit of the following formula (I): in which Rrepresents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; E represents —O—CO—, or —CO—O— or —NH—CO— or —CO—NH—; and G represents a Cto Calkyl group; said copolymer having a crosslinking rate of between 0.5 mol % and 30 mol %. The invention also concerns additive compositions containing such a polymer, and fuel compositions with such polymers as additives, in combination with a cold flow improver (CFI) chosen from the copolymers and terpolymers of ethylene and vinyl and/or acrylic ester(s). 2. Polymeric mist control materials, methods of forming polymeric mist control materials, and methods of using such materials for mist control are provided. The radical polymerization by emulsion polymerization process is carried out at a reaction temperature of not more than 50°C employing a seed polymerization method. In the radical polymerization reaction, by effectively removing the dissolved oxygen present in the polymerization reaction system, a high molecular weight polymer (a) having higher molecular weight than the conventional polymer, (b) having a straight-chain structure with less branching, and (c) being soluble in an organic solvent is produced by a producing method which is stabilized and controlled with ease. The product polymer is suitably adopted as a drag reducer.

The use of polymers with ester groups for enhancing viscosity and the method for using diesel engine are also disclosed. Embodiments of the present invention are directed toward systems and methods of providing a low-emissions diesel fuel for use in cold climates. Such fuels may be prepared by a Fischer-Tropsch process and include a pour point depressant. Furthermore, the fuel is used in conjunction with a heated fuel delivery system so that low cloud points are not necessary. Fuels prepared according to embodiments of the present invention may be produced in higher yields than otherwise possible because a higher paraffin wax content can be tolerated, thus obviating the need to remove or exclude the wax. These fuels are characterized by a sulfur content less than 1 ppm, a cetane number greater than 60, an aromatics content less than 1 wt %, and a difference between the cloud and pour points that is greater than about 5° C. The present fuel may be prepared by a Fischer-Tropsch synthesis from any number of carbon-containing sources such natural gas, coal, petroleum products, and combinations thereof.

(having a cloud point of >=-15 degrees C) contain 0.005-3 wt. % of a synergistic flow improving additive package comprising (A) 0.3-10 pts. wt. of an oil-soluble ethylene-contg. polymeric pour point depressant (no. ave. mol. wt.:500-50000, pref. 1000-5000) selected from (i) branded polyethylene, (ii) chlorinated (5-35 wt. % Cl) polyethylene and (iii) copolymers of 3-40 molar proportions of ethylene with a 3-16C alpha-monoolefin or a monoethylenically unsaturated mono- or diester of formula R1R2C=CHR3 (where R1 is H or methyl; R2 is an -OOCR4 or -COOR4 gp. where R4 is H or 1-16C alkyl; and R, is H or -COOR4) per 1 pt. wt. (B) a coadditive selected from (a) beeswax, (b) ozokerite wax and (c) a mixt. of alpha-monoolefins (24-50C, with the majority being >=30C). The additive is used esp. with fuel oils boiling in the range 120-400 degrees C, having cloud points of 5 degrees C to -15 dgrees C and pour points within 3 degrees C of the cloud point, e.g. diesel fuels and heating oils. The additive controls the wax crystal size of the fuels to improve filterability and cold flow properties.

Component (c) inhibits the formation of large wax-crystal agglomerates, which normally tend to settle to the bottom of the storage tank when fuel oils are stored at low temps. for long periods.
